The first movie was hyped for like a year before it came out, back when the tomb raider franchise was worth something. Even though the second movie is a little better than the first, no one plays tomb raider anymore.. when you plan a movie around an aging video game franchise, you can't except it to do so hot.
if they are making them out of stock pc components, they'd be better off to add a harddrive. if it was some cool embedded version of lindows it'd be one thing, but this is basically a stock pc just without a harddrive.
This is a really neat idea, but its hardly revolutionary.. If you aren't going for 100% metal free, its not that hard to conceive of how to use metal joints with bamboo for the straight pieces like they have done. Bamboo wheels may take some extra work, but its relatively easy to make a mostly bamboo frame. I am glad that someone had this idea though, in asian countries where there is little money but lots of bamboo, this could really help people.
There is no reason why we'd need to bring the hubble telescope back to earth. There is a ton of debris in space, there is no reason to bring all of that down, why should we bring the hubble back?
I consider there to be a difference between consulting and freelance technical work.. the article might not make the same distinction. In general, I see freelance tech support as those people who put ads up at the grocery store. Consulting is when you do tech support for companies and get paid $50-$70 an hour.
I love video games that let you be evil.. most video games will let you be evil to a point, but eventually you have to shape up to do the heart of the game. Morrowwind is a great example.. they let you kill anyone you want, but if you kill the one big boss guy, you can't complete the main quest and complete the game. If a game allows evil characters, it should allow for complete evilness and still let you finish the game.
They must be taking a hint from the Sims franchise which has managed to get people to pay $30 for 6 different expansions to the same games. Most of the expansions just add features that should have been in the original game in the first place.
Bittorrent doesn't give me a way to look at how many completed downloads the file has had, but judging from the feedback I've recieved several hundred people have the movie.. who knows how many downloaded it that never said a word.
You can get torrent tracker software.. one of them is called torrent spy iirc.. most of the popular torrent sites run that stuff so you can tell how many full copies of the file (Seeds) are still connected and how many people are downloading at any given time.
...that they bothered to blur out her vagina. Was she to modest for full frontal nudity?
It's some law in japan that they have to blur that or cover it in pictures for it to be legit with the legal system.. They don't object to much, but vagina shots bother them somehow.
I was really annoyed the other day when they shut down torrentse.cx.. I was most of the way thru a several gig download of Scrubs episodes (Timeshifting tv shows is still legal isnt it?) Eventually the downloads stopped after enough people disconnected and couldn't get back on without a tracker.
Do you just have to mail them the cd, or the license too? Apple could make a killing reselling all of those premiere licenses they they got basically for free.
A lot of inkjet printers are using similar technology to insure that refilled cartridges are aren't put back in by keeping track of the serial numbers of cartridges put into the printer.. Also, some printers decide a cartridge or one of the colors is too old after a certain amount of time and refuse to use it even if it is full. They claim this is so that they can ensure quality or something, but its obvious the intent is to keep refilled cartridges from being useful.
I've often wondered what would happen if you printed out an EULA, made changes to it, then sent it back to a company with the stipulation that if they do not contact you within 180 days that they signify their acceptance of your changes.
Silence is never acceptance, thats like You and The Law 101.. otherwise I could say that you owe $100 unless you email me and tell me no.

This isn't a good idea unless you are a terrorist.
but would you eat green eggs and ham?

no one makes money doing freelance technical work.

Will Humanoid Robots Take All the Jobs by 2050?
Short answer: No.
Longer answer: No.
So GDK is one of 8 or 10 abstraction layers between the hardware and what you see?
Oh, that's pretty damn cool. Here's an explanation so others won't have to do the googling again :) It apparently works in Opera, too.
What you linked to is an explanation of how to use css to block ads, what the parent linked to is how to block ads using the hosts file.
Take it from someone who has been a "plaintiff" in a bunch of these cases -- don't go spending your $500 now!
Yeah, I'm still waiting for my $5 from the RIAA pricefixing lawsuit.
It's not going to be easy to get people to sign up really,
Especially since their webpage doesn't tell you how you can sign up, it just tells you how you can get email updates about it.

Honestly, hosting a Bit Torrent seed for a copyrighted file is no different then hosting the file itself, other then the lowered bandwidth bill.
this from someone that has his own bt tracker site for porn..
So why can I not use KaZaA to download the .torrent file and run it from there? Of Freenet?
People already do that a lot.. look on some of the channels on efnet and other irc networks.. its very common.

I'm driving from England, a 2400 mile round trip!"
Some of which is underwater right? Sounds fun!
I mean if you really want to copy a GUI why not look to Mac OS X?
Because the only people that like having one toolbar shared between all apps already own macs.
