I believe if you have the commercial version of flash it may give you a few more options, but for the most part you usually don't get the option to pause, fast forward, or rewind.

It's not only possible, but some of us have been doing this for over ten years. If Apple pursues this patent, I'm definitely calling prior art on this.

Fast user switching isn't even close to running separare x sessions, not is it similar to switching between virtual desktops. Fast user switching unloads part of the OS and logs in another user, this is much more efficient than loading multiple xsessions and switching between them. If apple pursues this patent, the only one that could call prior art on this is microsoft and as stated in the article, apple's implementation is different than microsofts and that is what they are pursuing the patent on.

Even if the Apple method is superior, how are they going to get a patent for the concept of fast user switching, even they admit that MS had it before them. I could see them getting some kind of patent for the particular way they do it, but for the concept in general its a little late.

Generally the laws apply to any spammer mailing stuff to someone in that state. For instance, if i wanted too, I could sue any spammer in the world under the Illinois state anti-spam laws, it would probably only be effective in the US since the long arm statutes would allow Illinois courts to have jurisdiction over the spammer since they had some amount of contact with illinois. In the case of this upcoming law, i believe it would also allow anyone in the world to sue spammers from Michigan as well.

Do you agree that an alien race with radio is likely to have possessed it for longer than we have?

No, I wouldn't even agree to that..there is nothing that would lead me to believe that an alien race within communication range of earth has had radio technology longer than we have. As I said, statistically, the odds of there being aliens more advanced than us are the same as there being aliens less advanced than us in regards to radio communication and otherwise.

It's one thing to assume there is intelligent life out there, it's another to make assumptions about it trying to use the evolution of intelligent life on earth to measure it.

The only way I'd even consider that intelligent aliens have had radio technology longer than us is if they got in touch with us before we got in touch with them.. We've been trying to contact intelligent alien life for a long time and haven't gotten any answers.. using your assumption that aliens would be similar to us, it would stand that if aliens have had radio technology longer than us, they'd make first contact, not us.
