There you go not understanding what you are talking about..

For intents and purposes based on common definitions of that a Unix is, macosx is unix.

Carbon and Cocoa are API's made for macosx, therefore they are API's for a unix, they aren't api's for linux or freebsd or whatever but they are unix api's and actually porting them to other unixs/unices/whatever wouldn't be that tremendous of a task, the problem is that they aren't opensource..

Exactly, I might be old fashioned being 20 and all, but I was brought up with the understanding that commercials paid for it all. I pay for internet access so I don't have to look at commercials like you would have to do with bluelight or netzero. I wouldn't be willing to pay half price to get half as many commercials. Damnit if it has commercials it should be free, its been paid for.

I'll start using satellite radio when its free. I don't value the ability to listen to random music enough to pay for it.

This is just not true. You specifically have to download things before they can do anything using IE and if you are dumb enough to use outlook and let it have the ability to execute file attachments automatically, you deserve what you get.

There is also the thought that women were better at math than a lot of men, which is why women that couldn't get accepted into mathematics programs went into the budding computer field where they were more readily accepted.

  23. what linux needs.. on APT - With Your Favorite Distribution · · Score: 1

what linux really need is something similar to windows update but that also handled popular software in someway.

Some centralized server(s) kept track of everything.

You would go to linuxupdate.com and it would read in a file that listed everything you had installed, then would list any critical bug fixes you needed.

So then internally, it would route you to a free server that had what you needed and it would all download and install, then you'd be back at linuxupdate ready to pick any other software you wanted such as kde2 or staroffice or whatever, then you'd click "staroffice" and it would figure out what you needed and automatically download and install all of that stuff..

It would be simple and have a webfront end and would use something like apt to do the background work so that dependancies were never messed up and then everyone would be happy and eventually people would stop using windows and start using linux because it would be just as easy to use as anything else.
