  1. Public concern on Losing the Public Debate On Global Warming · · Score: 5, Interesting
If the proposed solution to climate change is cost-prohibitive and the results of any solution will not create a long term fix... and the promised "hockey stick" increase in temperatures not been seen in the last 15 years... Then it is pretty normal for people to question the wisdom of creating trillions of dollars of economic burden to attempt a fix.

But shouldn't we be concerned that NASA's interest in Global warming is going to get in the way of their Primary Mission of Muslim Outreach"...

  2. Possession of Stolen Property on iPhone Users Sue AT&T For Letting Thieves Re-Activate Their Stolen Devices · · Score: 1
Seems like an easy way to get (dumb) criminals off the streets.. Have Apple or AT&T alert the police when someone attempts to "reactivate a phone known to be stolen." Get their details, credit card info, maybe snap a picture.. then stall a bit until the police show up.

However, most cell phones stolen in bigger cities go straight to a black market and are quickly exchanged for $50-$100, and bundled up and shipped overseas. The police know about these stolen phone dealers but do nothing (per San Francisco Examiner) But with a database, the police could focus on dealers with 3 or 4 phones that puts it into the grand theft category, a felony... which makes it one more strike added to a scum-balls record.

Muhammad's sexual antics are an embarrassment to those Muslims who are aware of them. This is particularly so for their prophet's consummation of his marriage to Aisha when she was only nine years of age. The thought of a 52-year-old man sleeping and bathing with a young girl is intensely unpleasant and it reflects the disgusting character of a sexual glutton rather than a holy man. Critics even allege that Muhammad was a pedophile. Exerpted from http://www.thereligionofpeace.com/Quran/025-Muhammads-sex-life.htm

I didn't say housing projects were all black, but I did suggest they are unsafe for most white people (as well as anyone visiting or living there.)

I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts you don't have kids, otherwise you would never recommend sending kids to heavily "diverse" public schools so they can learn how to socially interact with the lower classes... Simply because the "diverse" schools typically have the worst test scores and the most violence. Parents who care about their kids tend to send them to the best and safest schools they can afford.

Suggesting that it is more about class is disingenuous.. There are plenty of statistics compiled by the FBI that show the preponderance of crime committed by blacks and to a lesser degree, Hispanics, and these statistics do not correlate simply with being poor.

In short, the authors crime here was to put into words some facts, experiences and opinion that are too taboo for our delicate sensibilities.

Unless there is a compelling reason to Open Source your product (maybe you're looking for your users to modify and expand the product?) I would not definitely not open source it. Why choose a business model that puts "profits to pay the developers" at the bottom of the priority list? The list of profitable small to medium sized open source projects that produce a very good profit is small.

As a developer, you have a limited number of productive years, before family, lack of time, and brain cells makes you overpriced and uncompetitive. Global outsourcing will make this worse. You owe it to yourself to make a bundle of money now so you'll have something to pay off the house with and retire on. And besides, software becomes obsolete quickly, so if you think you'll make money eventually if its "free" to start, you're kidding yourself.

Just today I tried 3 "free" programs to do the simple task of merging mp3 audiobook files together.. they all sucked. I then spent $10 on one and it worked like a charm on the first go. The number of profitable companies that don't give away their entire product is vast. If it is worth something, charge for it. Willing buyer, willing seller. There should be a name for this concept.

Zimmerman was detained, questioned, and let go after the police decided they did not have enough to charge him. That is the system working as well, however unfair it might appear. But the non-event was turned into a circus by posting young pictures of Travon making it looked like he was a 12 year old child with a box of candy in his hands, rather than both sides of the story.. which is that Zimmerman had obvious signs of being attacked by a pretty well-built 6' black man (http://farm7.staticflickr.com/6213/6868529102_0033bdbc3c.jpg) and his story of self defense checks out. No way a jury would convict unless the media can paint him as a racist, which NBC was happy to do.

And the real shame is that NBC did not apologize to Zimmerman, who they unfairly painted a racist... I hope Zimmerman sues them for defamation/slander.
