  1. Astaro Much Better on SmoothWall 2.0 Linux-Based Firewall Released · · Score: 4, Informative

Personally, I've used Astaro Security Linux for a long time since moving from Smoothwall, and I find it far superior.

It's of course free for home use, runs on anything down to a P100, and all the up2date is handled by Astaro themselves.

Hell, they even have FREE evaluation webinar-live-workshops for people to get acquainted with Astaro if they are new (and presumeably to help with a purchasing decision for business) You can signup for the Eval Workshop for free here.

When they release their version 5, I hope it gets the same kind of publicity, they are hands down the coolest internet firewall and don't seem to get much press.

  4. Nothing Wrong With this from a buisness point. on How to change your Radeon 9500 into a 9700 · · Score: 2, Insightful

Lets look at this in 2 ways why it is NOT stealing from Ati, or the consumer. For years, people with Nvidia cards have been using coolbits or some other software hack to enable overclocking on their Geforce and Tnt Cards. With the GF4 series, it's easily possible to make a Ti4200 run as fast as a Ti4600, depending on who makes the card. Now people that argue that these people are buying this card instead of the $399 Ti4600, dont you realize that the people that perform these kinds of "hacks" probably don't have the money to buy a $399 video card, so as such they buy a cheaper on and overclock it. Thus nvidia sells a cheaper card, instead of no card at all.

Also, the same applies to this ati hack. While many people can afford the 9500, far less are willing to spring for the 9700. As such, ATI is STILL selling cards. Bottom line, if it is moving product out the door, it's a good business deal. Add this to the fact that ATI may entice former nvidia-only people to try their products, and this software hack (the hardware hack is no longer necessary with Wizzards and Rivatuner software hacks out) becomes a means for ATI to get a load of free press/publicity/interest, and sell some cards.

I work at an ISP, and build tons of systems. I get all my parts from Netlink and they have by far the biggest, most detailed database of parts for order (us and Canadian pricing) on the web. Give them a shot for wicked pricing as well.

    Hope that helps someone out.

Yes, lego was absolutely the best toy I had, even GI Joe and the vast armies of He-Man didn't give as much joy. :) (But it was close)

    Here's why.

It was durable. ONLY lego could take the stress of being hit with billard balls, trampled on by feet, and being swallowed by the rubber godzillas repeatedly.

It was reusable. I STILL have my lego today, my uncle's and aunt's have their buckets. and still my little nephews build cities, starships, and moon bases, tear them all down, and do it all over again.

It was limitless. Didn't like the guys face? Change it, even the damn tiny HOOKS for the arms were tough to break. You could snap weapons in and out all day long, and it wouldn't let you down. Try that with a batman figure from today, see how long it lasts....

I know that while lego may not be able to compete on a technical level with some of the newer toys, I still smile when I see my little relatives running around the basment with my LEGO, when just around the corner is the Playstation. I guess some things just don't die.

    Lego, you GO! :)

Does doing it a 640x480 or LOWER mean the same thing? I have a hard time believing that a Quadro Setup can render something in .4 of a sec that their SGI setup takes 90mins to do. If Nvidia WAS INDEED 100,000 times faster at this using a Quadro setup, we might have heard of this before? Something's missing from this methinks.

It is about time Palm came forward and announced a new OS with support for all the latest features, however I am sitting here holding my breath that it will not be a fiasco like the 3.5 OS that was only available to a select few, or those that chose to purchase it. Palm's strength has always been an easy, straightforward way to upgrade the OS to take advantage of new developments, and I honestly hope this does not change as the company searches for ways to bring in more capital. just my 2 cents

That would let scientists study the thing and maybe have it end up in a museum where it could be remembered. Sure it would involve some costs, but the shuttles are already UP there and it can't be that big of an expense to boost over to Mir and grab some or all of it for re-entry.... but I guess if it was easy, somebody would have considered that right?
