Even as it continues to battle for Unix ownership in court, the SCO Group plans to auction off most all of its Unix assets, including "certain UNIX system V software products and related services,"
Yes they are certainly still claiming ownership of Unix.
A Judge enjoin them from selling anything while the lawsuits against them are adjudicated.
28.6 seconds is less accurate, but we're not measuring time on the atomic scale, but on a scale that reflects human noticing things. So, while you're right, the ms rating is more accurate, to human perspective is is meaningless. Saying 28.6 and 19.9 makes it obvious how much time difference in human recognizable terms. Humans can generally perceive time to the.1 seconds and maybe with some training, to the.01 seconds. Beyond that, doubtful people will care much.
In real terms it is about 9 seconds difference, and that is where humans care.
Internet was designed, as you said, to withstand nuclear war, but that is not what the internet was "designed" for. It is, it will be, and it will remain a "communication" tool. People who don't realize and understand this are doomed to "not getting it" for a long time.
The people who don't get why social media is so big, don't understand that the internet was social to start with, because it is all about communication. The internet is a social network. The only thing that has changed is the bandwidth, and with bandwidth comes the ability to do things one cannot do without it, that is all. Voip, Video, Media rich applications, blogging, social nets and so on are all products and services made possible by bandwidth and ubiquitous connectivity.
And if you really think about it, cellphones are logical for integration into these tools, as they are just another means of communication (internet).
The GP post was insinuating that it takes a plane to blow things up, and that planes were the only means of traveling on public/open routes.
I also forgot that guy that flew his own plane into the IRS building in Texas. Throwing stars are red herring for security theater.
On a related and humorous note, when I was in college (25 years ago), I was pulled aside while going through security at an airport.
It seems the guy saw a throwing star in my back. He asked me if I had one, and of course I said I didn't (I didn't!!!). He got really angry and demanded to go in my bag.
I let him in my bag, and he pulls out a magnet in the shape of a sheriff badge. We had a great chuckle after that, he had never had that happen before.
Coasts are much higher density than fly-over. And there is a sparsity in Alaska that is almost mind boggling.
Hell, even here in California, we vary between Dense (LA, SF) to very rural (central farmland, mountain). Additionally the US is geographically the size of most of Europe
I haven't voted for someone who won national election since probably Reagan (my first president after 18). I've often wondered "why bother" to vote, since I'm part of the less than 10% that is so fed up with (D) and (R) duopoly that vote for third party.
On some level, I hope to hell that the TeaParty, Greens, Libertarians and all the other third party candidates all continue to make significant progress in eroding the base of the (D)/(R) that one day we have a president that only garners enough national votes to win by less than 33% of popular vote, and perhaps just enough to get plurality of Electoral College and congress to cause huge problems getting a government seated.
In fact, I'll propose that the third parties get together and have a REAL open debate (discussion) of Presidential candidates, not the scripted press conferences that don't prove anything. Shouldn't our political reality represent the political will of people. We have such a wonderful diverse set of views, many of which I disagree with, but with whom I love discussing.
If I were an US leader standing across from Mexican delegation, this is what I'd ask them "Aren't you embarrassed about how many people are fleeing your country?"
Or just sneak across the boarder, and live here long enough that you get your own "path to citizenship" when the powers that be deem it impossible for them to send 10-30 million of your comrades home.
If the domain is hosted by anyone, chances are that there is a creditcard # attached to it. THAT credit card number and the person's name attached can be sued for in a civil court fraud proceedings.
In addition, there is libel charges that can be made (civil) and possibly fraud (criminal) charges. All of this is relatively easy info to get a hold of. It isn't hard to prove lack of guilt here. The problems are the legal system is in the way of getting that information. The registrar, the hosting company aren't going to give up that information without a court order. AND that is where the problem is. A court will not take action until there is a complaint before it. Get the complaint filed ASAP, file the requests for subpoena for all relevant billing/contact information at the same time.
It is worse than the muckrackers were saying. It also does nothing to help get health care system fixed (it is expensive, but is it "broken?), and only breaks it further.
And the stupid thing is, when it doesn't do what it is supposed to do, there will be more cries from the left about how broken the system is, and how it needs even MORE of the same solution, rather than scrapping it and going back to how it is now.
Just look at the "stimulus" package. It didn't do what it was claimed to do. By all metrics, it has failed completely based on those objectives alone.
young females who post "I'm home alone tonight and bored"
I read something like that and I think "phone sex" or "cheap hooker" or "easy slut". The last two I equate to "I have three to six different STDs all contagious and at least one incurable".
What incentive do bad schools have to improve? If they stay bad, they get more money. If they actually improve, they might lose funding. And the public is generally forced to attend a school closest to their house, regardless of that school to actually educate anyone.
Same way left wingers who burn flags use it. Hypocritical much?
One thing I've learned is that left wingers don't like are right wingers who use the tactics learned from the left.
In fact, flag burning is just as offensive to some people as torching a Koran. Either you support both, reject both, or you're a hypocrite. Don't get me wrong, but right wingers have the same problem, just in reverse. They see nothing wrong with Koran burning but hate flag burning.
IMHO both are cheap political stunts designed to inflame (pun intended) the passions of a particular group/party, and have no business in rational debate. But that is just me.
what does "health care" mean to you? If you mention technology at all, I'll say that's my point. You don't have health care in the Amazon or on a Island by yourself, except that which you provide for yourself... which is my point.
And yes, I can provide a list if you need one. Sad that you need one.
Like I asked another person, if society thinks Slavery is okay you're okay with it? Stoning Adulteresses? Sharia Law? Does everyone have to agree or do we just have to agree with you???
No, you can't just look at inventory. You have to look at how many kids, of what race, color, ethnicity, and income level and track it all to make sure that each subgroup is getting fed properly and according to the $$ being sent from DC or the State making sure it gets to the right groups in the right amounts.
Rights are self evident. If you lived alone on an island, you'd have rights. You could say anything you wanted, do anything you wanted, go anywhere you wanted, eat anything you wanted.
You could even carry a big stick with a big rock attached to the end to protect yourself, and not get a license from the club police.
RIGHTS exist whether you realize it or not. The fact that you think they come from society means that whatever "society" deems a right, you're okay with. You're okay with a society saying slavery is okay?
So you don't see rights as being self evident, but requiring others to give them to you? How sad is that?
Rights exist apart from anyone else. You're all alone, on an island, you have RIGHTS that exist, the don't depend on others. You can say what your want, hang where you want, carry a big stick with a rock attached to it. And Health Care is what you do when you bang your knee or cut your finger.
Rights don't require any technology to exist, people to enforce them, they just are. Rights existed 200 years ago, exist today and visa versa.
MRI didn't exist 100 years ago, an MRI is not a "Right". Marvels found in hospitals don't exist in the deep forests of the Amazon, they aren't rights.
They are privileges afforded to us because were a modern technological society.
FED, STATE or other government agency says "You're failing your reporting compliance and therefore we're cutting your funding until you get back into compliance.
School District "but we don't have any fancy computers or need them to feed kids"
FEDs "It doesn't matter if you're feeding kids if we don't hear about it, and we're not hearing about it, so 'no soup for you, one year'"
School District "We don't have the money to buy stupid computer system for your reporting needs"
FEDs "Next!"
School District "aww crap, we better figure out how to get this shit done, IT HELP!!!"
IT Dept " You can't make us support yet another reporting system without increasing our budget so we can support the school lunch line system"
They justify it because it is a legal requirement passed down from Feds to States to Local schools and districts. I know, because I work in IT, in a school district, supporting this very type of system.
YES they do track all sorts of stuff. YES, the Nutrition Services monitors what they serve (they should). YES it is industrial food. YES it costs a minor fortune.
YES it is cost effective and necessary to use such a system because it is automated data collection that is required by law. Hiring people to make sure the data is recorded and reported properly without such a system is even MORE expensive.
Don't want this kind of intrusion into your kids lives, stop voting "do it for the children" politicians, who are only using this crap for their own power and attaboys. Or pack a lunch for them. Most people are too damn busy/lazy to make a lunch every day for their kids. And those people like things like Government programs to do for their kids what they are unwilling or unable to do for themselves.
Not to sound too "religious" but people 2000 years ago said the same thing....
Rev 6:6 And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and [see] thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
Eze 7:19 They shall cast their silver in the streets, and their gold shall be removed: their silver and their gold shall not be able to deliver them in the day of the wrath of the LORD: they shall not satisfy their souls, neither fill their bowels: because it is the stumblingblock of their iniquity.

I thought Novel owned Unix and only licensed it to SCO, and that was already settled. How can they sell Unix if they don't own it?
I think she's selling herself short.
Don't forget that all Pedophiles are heavily into Di-hydrogen Monoxide!

Density is relative in the US.
Coasts are much higher density than fly-over. And there is a sparsity in Alaska that is almost mind boggling.
Hell, even here in California, we vary between Dense (LA, SF) to very rural (central farmland, mountain). Additionally the US is geographically the size of most of Europe
http://goeurope.about.com/od/europeanmaps/l/bl-country-size-comparison-map.htm
So, suffice it to say that comparing Europe to the US on many things is like comparing Apples to Pumpkins, we're not the same league.

It should be embarrassing and shameful.
Or just sneak across the boarder, and live here long enough that you get your own "path to citizenship" when the powers that be deem it impossible for them to send 10-30 million of your comrades home.
