How long do you think paint takes to load? What are you doing that the potential difference of seconds is so crucial that it needs dealing with? You're only talking about opening, pasting and saving. How is the level of frustration with that (which is zero) dependent on the specs of the machine? How did paint.net even come into this? You basically said it's more frustrating to use paint for screenshots on a desktop or laptop than it is on a netbook and I said that's stupid.
That's my point, why does it matter why someone is unemployed? If they are of working age and don't have a job, they are unemployed, that's about as simple as it gets. What's the virtue of counting your housewife as unemployed? Because she is! How do you even determine how many of these people should be counted or not? It's just a way to artificially lower the rate because low percentages of unemployed makes for good headlines and you can pat yourself on the back a job well done.
The idea that all that data usage is strictly streaming Netflix all day long is ridiculous.
You obviously didn't read the summary. And no, bands aren't recording on the bus (just think about that for a second), and even if they were definitely not at the rate that they just have to upload their super hi def recordings right there and then.
>Here are several extremely common tasks Paint is supremely efficient at, therefore it must be abolished.
Screw you if you think I'm going to fuck around with layers just to draw a black box or an arrow on something.
For those tasks you really don't need to but photoshop has a tendency to lock out a jpg when you just open it and unless you know how to unlock it you're going to be banging your head of the screen screaming "why the fuck won't you just work!?!" Same if you manage to select something small without realising it and photoshop refuses to do anything.
For some one who doesn't know what they're doing and just wants to do something seemingly incredibly simple, photoshop is more likely to give you an aneurysm!
Perhaps it is because I come from a Unix design methodology. But if people are doing limited tasks in Paint. Would it make sense to make tool(s) to do the tasks more efficiently.
Probably but take that to it's logical conclusion and you get photoshop. Sometimes it's good to have something simple and limited.
In a very real way the paint program is dead as there are extremely few people actually using it to paint. But those other uses require a tool and I really dont understand why Microsoft would want to opt out of providing that tool. Seems like a no-brainer.
Not many people use photoshop to take photos or run shops either so the clue isn't always in the name.
Actually there are plenty of simple paint programes that are every bit as good as Microsoft Paint, not only for Microsoft operating systems but Linux and Mac os's as well.
That's true but paint is on basically every windows pc ever by default. You know it's going to be there, you know where it'll be, you know you can count on it (to an extent). Anything else is a crapshoot.
On a netbook paint is a handy place to paste a screenshot but on a machine with any kind of capabilities it's kind of the most frustrating tool available.
It's just as easy to put a screenshot into paint on a desktop as it is a netbook or laptop. What are you on about? It's frustrating if you actually want to do anything sure but for screen shots, it's open paint, paste, save. No more or less anything any any platform. Unless you mean doing digital art or whatever on a netbook but why on earth would you want to do that? It'd be like digging with a spoon.
The reason you count out these people not looking for work is because you need comparable metrics across countries and time.
No the reason you count them out is so that you can pretend your government is doing better than it is and you can give your self and your chums a big pat on the back, and probably a bonus. If you want comparable metrics just count everyone of working age. Unemployed means without employment, the circumstances are moot. Say you have a working population of 100m and 50m have jobs, what rate are unemployed? Does it matter if 25m of those don't want one? They are still unemployed. How do they even come up with the 'given up looking for work' or 'don't want a job numbers' etc? I would be very surprised if they weren't just made up by someone.
Right, just figure out the movie/TV preferences of 12 band members and pirate it all ahead of time! Wow, and who said Ask Slashdot had stupid answers to stupid questions?
If you think the only options are stream or pirate then you're a fucking idiot.
Do they not buy albums and then listen to them? They have to stream it?
Nah, kids don't bother with that these days. They just pay a bunch of subscriptions and assume they'll always have unlimited high speed data everywhere they ever go ever and then get all panicky when they realise how hooked they are on it and it's not there. There's probably a whole sub set who have never seen a DVD let alone a CD.
Why in gods name do you need continual, high-speed internet? Can you not pull yourself away from the computer? That's a problem all by itself.
Have you tried touring for extended periods? In a bus? It isn't like these bands just go out for a day then go home at night, or even every week or two. Many spend months at a time on the road, with lots of long drives (hence the bus) and a sizable crew (the 12-14 mentioned). In 2017 it is not realistic for a group like this to NOT use 10GB+ per day. It isn't like they are just sitting around watching Netflix all day, and you obviously have no clue how this works. Few people on Slashdot would go days or weeks by choice without streaming anything.
I know man, the fact that bands managed to tour all those years ago in the ancient, pre mobile internet days is just mind boggling. It's not like you can pre load your media or get entertainment that isn't streamed:O Outside the box thinking I know. Or if you really must stream all your shit for 12 people who apparently have nothing better to do then get them individual sims with a data allowance rather than use whatever the bus gives you. I know rock'n'roll isn't rocket science but at least think about it a little bit. In 2017 apparently stating the year is a good way to validate your point.
I don't like the way you can "buy" a product, and then the manufacturer remotely disables some of the functionality you paid for.
Not upgrading is not a viable option, because you need security patches.
Then you don`t like Windows 10, Don`t buy it. I know I don`t buy things I don`t like.
Classic argument that works for basically anything else. They don't sell previous versions anymore and they are ever and ever harder to get hold of. So your choice is windows 10(shit), mac(expensive and shit) or linux(complete non start for anyone who doesn't know exactly what they're doing). If you want a new computer choose the one you hate the least.
Ideally, it would manage your nail collection - it would search all available work-spaces for nails or nail-like objects - even http://dragonball.wikia.com/wi... - and it would organise your nails according to size, weight, color, composition, shape and which end was pointy and which end wasn't. It would keep track of your nail usage and offer you the nails you use most frequently, even going online to order new nails of that type (or more likely new nails of whatever type is preferred by the hammer's manufacturer), or it might refuse to operate at all unless you had the correct proprietary nails. It would also have social media integration so you could check out what kinds of nails your friends were using as well as be exposed to advertisements for different sorts of nails, screws, bolts, rivets, glue, welding rods and Namekians.
Oh, and it would also hammer nails, although that's kind of secondary at this point.
Get that on kickstarter and I'll put in over 9,000.
Just because we haven't figured out how to communicate with species on our own planet doesn't mean they don't communicate. Other primates do just as well communicating with each other, passing down information from generation to generation as well as solve math problems and the like.
We call ourselves intelligent yet we can't communicate as well with our own species naturally as some others can and think that somehow we are the superior race.
They obviously don't though. Sure they can pass on information like where to find food, this is what we do with this, a big thing is coming and all that kind of stuff but what information do they actually pass on generationally? Can any animal tell/show about it's family tree, it's species history, it's anything other than what concerns them in the here and now? How many have actually built anything that really requires cooperation between individuals outside of hive systems? How many creatures have come up with standardised anything? We can communicate with people in different languages all over the world practically instantly yet we're the inferior ones? Riiiiiight. All these animals are basically communicating as well as humans did BEFORE we inverted languages and an actual way to pass information on through the generations, hence advanced maths, science, construction etc instead of constantly being stuck at maybe being able to count a few things, living in makeshift shelters and breaking open nuts with rocks.
Before Pepperberg’s work with Alex, it was widely believed in the scientific community that a large primate brain was needed to handle complex problems related to language and understanding; birds were not considered to be intelligent, as their only common use of communication was mimicking and repeating sounds to interact with each other. However, Alex’s accomplishments supported the idea that birds may be able to reason on a basic level and use words creatively. Pepperberg wrote that Alex’s intelligence was on a level similar to dolphins and great apes. She also reported that Alex seemed to show the intelligence of a five-year-old human, in some respects, and he had not even reached his full potential by the time he died. She believed that the bird possessed the emotional level of a human two-year-old at the time of his death.
Alex’s last words to Pepperberg were: “You be good, see you tomorrow. I love you.” These were the same words that he would say every night when Pepperberg left the lab.
(I can only hope my last words are as earnest.)
Alex was also able to coin terms to describe his experience - apple became the “ban-erry” because to him it apparently tasted like the combination of a banana and a cherry. Further, the damn bird seemed to me to be capable of sarcasm. (The way he would deliberately report incorrect results when he was fed up with an experiment is well-documented, and reminds me of the deadpan style of a couple people I know)
So a bird takes 31 years to get to level of a 2 year old (but still has potential to match a 5 year old, much wow) and says the same thing it says every night before dieing of unknown causes and that's somehow enough to think if you really gave it enough time and effort then what? It can use a few sounds/words outside of the originally taught context, if anything that article supports OPs points. I don't think anyone is saying animals are without any intelligence, feelings or personalities. I can tell you pretty much what my dog wants at all times and he can probably tell a lot more about me than I realise but that doesn't mean I can strap a magic collar on him and have a good ol' chin wag.
And this is why I have NEVER signed up for a Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, My Space, Google, Twitter, or similar account. F' them. I'll stick more independent mediums.
The Google Pixel phones are also very nice although they haven't sold that well in their first year.
Could be something about the price, dur dur?
The price is in the same ballpark as iPhones and the Galaxy line, at it is comparable in specs to those phones. It doesn't appear that price is a significant factor.
Apart from it doesn't have the cult status of apple or the long term (mostly) excellent track record to justify it.
Same, for me its main problem was it started at the same time as spartacus and that was shit hot! While spartacus was basically equal parts hardcore violence, softcore porn and devious politics, game of thrones was all people being mopey, foreshadowing and a whole lot of fuck all going on.
We are country of the rule of law and if we start applying them to what is popular only, we will be headed for some serious upheaval and unrest.
Ahhh you almost had me until that bit, then the joke revealed itself. Good one

What's the difference between a drummer and a drum machine?
You only have to punch information into a drum machine once.
your write about some pacific points their but i really could care less.

Designed by Apple in California.
