I agree with him absolutely in his observations. Linux has zero share on the Desktop. Duh!!.. Isnt that we wanted anyway ?
Ask him to look in to the server market! Ask the Giants in the server market! Are their knees shaking at the prospect of losing their entire share to a bunch of revolutionary coders ? Absolutely!
What John W. Schoen of MSNBC did was take the age old "Linux doesnt have a share in the PC Market" and gave it a new spin.
I could see the intent of this article in the wake of Microsoft Tablet PC. M$ in their infinite wisdom needs to ensure that the millions of its users look at the Tablet PC as an alternative to using PCs around the house. Now that they have cornered them in to buying a license of XP, they want to tie them down with the latest and greatest "innovations" of all - a low end PC with a touch screen.
I seriously doubt whether Linus and the kernel group would stop development on the new kernel as of today.
Couldnt we build something similar to SETI that would distribute the load among thousands of cpus to compute the chances of these near earth objects trying to knock us out of existance ?
I understand SETI being useful and all that, but its gonna be a sad day if those Aliens reach us a couple of days after our extinction.

They are just testing the waters for now. An Apple representative has reportedly told the press that in the next Mac Show Apple should have something to this effect.
My point was even if it were ten linux hackers who were scouring through the new kernel to find bugs, they would be a million times more productive than a thousand testers M$ is able to put behind the XP beta testing effort.
Its not the numbers that matters, but the effort and the knowledge you possess about what you are looking at.
The Comparative Code Chart shows the NASA Space Shuttle Flight Control having less than 2 million lines of code, the Linux Kernel having less than four million, the Solaris version having 8 million and Win XP having around 30 million!!!.
Now lets look at these figures based on what this idiot was talking about :
(1) His primary objective was security. Hence we are led to believe that Win XP having over 30 million lines of code and employing a few thousand testers and programmers, has a more secure code base, than the four million loc Linux kernel which is reviewed by millions of geeks all over the world. Hmm.. so a couple of thousand testers in Redmond were able to do a better job than the millions of open source geeks world over. Vewwyy good!!!
(2) Complexity of the software. Come on, obviously since the NASA program is only 2 million loc, and the XP having over 30 million loc, which is more complex and feature driven ? XP ofcourse. (On a side note, if I were the director for NASA, I would remove XP from all my machines this very day..heck I would be damn paranoid).
And then again If I were Gates, I would buy out this firm, fire this moron and make sure he never gets hired, and make the rest of the chimpanzees who worked there, read Dilbert cartoons for the rest of their lives.

I googled for Andre Carter of Irimi Corpn whose comments Mr. Kenneth (or whatever frickin name he has) values more than anything else and this is what I found :
One pro-Microsoft observer credited Gates with being precise and helpful. "His testimony has been soaked with real-world examples, [and it shows] he understands the ramifications of how the states [want to affect his business]," said E. Andre Carter, CEO of Irimi, a Washington-based mobile and wireless consultancy, who also works for the pro-Microsoft lobbying group Americans for Technology Leadership.
BINGO!
When idiots like these make money by lying through their teeth, spread FUD and otherwise confuse the idiots who make decisions in the Senate and everywhere else, this industry, this country and the world we live in has such a fucked up future.
This is a winning war for both Intel and AMD. The only ones who lose are us, standing in line forking over 180 bucks for the XP 2000+ and still ready to roll out whatsoever needed to get the new Thoroughbred because it can squeeze out couple of more 3DMark points.
I would have posted more, but I need to run to the local computer shop to check whether they have arrived yet.:)
Got an Athlon XP 2000+ chugging away accompanied by 5 Fans (2 Case Fans, 1 Hard Drive Fan, 1 CPU Fan, 1 AGP Fan) + 2 120GB Hard Drives + Sparkle 400W PSU.

One thing I dont understand is these groups fanatically oppose any consumer intervention, meaning you and I, though we are ultimately affected by these decisions, have no way of participating. I rate these money mongers at the same level as Mafiosi thugs.
Also once this bill is passed, we would have no way of sending copyrighted material to our office computers or any other ones.
You have think tanks such as Alexis de Tocqueville Institution warning government in the Post Sept11 world that Open source is inherently less secure than Closed Source.
And to quote : "Computer systems are the backbone to U.S. national security," said ADTI Chairman Gregory Fossedal. "Before the Pentagon and other federal agencies make uninformed decisions to alter the very foundation of computer security, they should study the potential consequences carefully."
Tonight at 9:00 PM (Eastern Time) Discovery Channel (Channel 42) features a one hour program on the origins of the Universe.
In this feature, of which 21 minutes is devoted to NCSA produced visualizations, which includes the spectacular rendition of a flight from earth to the massive black hole on the center of our galaxy.
21 minutes of NCSA rendered graphics...yummm..
So dont miss it, even if you werent a space geek. Being a graphics fan would do fine.
My only qualm was I ended up adding to Lucas's coffers instead of giving it to Raimi. I think he deserved it more that Lucas.
If I had a gun I would first shoot that Hayden kid. I cant convey enough the fact that he sucked so bad. "I killed them all, I slaughtered them like animals"... booo..booo. Dude, you need a lesson in emotions. The only emotion he had was his head tilted sideways when he drives, a smug expression on his face.
Natalie, get a life. Get out of Starwars while you still can. You are better off with just hot grits poured over you.
Kenobi and Yoda and Sam Jackson kicked ass. Period. Kenobi, however was the best.
Direction was as bad as a b-grade movie. The way the movie switched between Kenobi and Hayden was done badly. I was more interested in what Kenobi does and I had to close my eyes when Hayden and Natalie were frolicking in grass. I have seen Bollywood movies which are better than this.
Spiderman was awesome. The movie could have had more action to it, but the character portrayals were real neat. Toby really put all his effort in to it and it showed. Watching him morph in to spiderman and learning his new skills were as exhilarating as if I were doing it myself.
Lucas could take a course in directing from Sam Raimi himself.
And better of all. LOTR still reigns supreme as the movie of the year. Peter jackson and his army of hobbits and wizards and orcs could whip the Clone army back to medieval era.

According to Steve Balmer, the next version of the console would be out in 2006.
Question is, would they have enough market share by then ? Enough to ponder a new version ?
Also would they take a hit in terms of cost as they did with the original Xbox ?

This, coming from a guy whose other papers include a report on The Herald Business Journal which opposes the Govt stance on M$. You can see the rest of the studies done by ADTI here
As long as we have people and institutions which are funded and backed by giants like M$, we are stuck in this moment.

Was that necessary Michael ?
I mean, no one here cares whether he worked for MS. And we certainly dont believe he got better at coding while he worked at MS.
And I am not buying the theory that Daniel Egnor is actually the alter ego of Mr. William Gates. His coding skills died with DOS!
I dont care if its Gamegal or Gamespy!
