  1. Another Legal Lock-picker - Dave Richardson on H2K2 Wrapup · · Score: 5, Informative

LATimes has a story on Dave Richardson who is considered one of the masters of his trade.

The article is fairly long, but he comes off as one hell of a legal lock picker, whose services are employed by law enforcement and in sometimes to break in to safes without leaving a trace behind. Interesting stuff.

I am not flaming here, but I believe the literacy being 100% had a lot to do with having Communists in power. Basically because, when they first came in to power, all they had were the grassroots movement and empowering them was the first thing the communist party did. I know shit happened from then on (Communists went the capitalist way), but in the beginning they were really about freedom of choice and power to the people.

Ok people, Lets get the friggin facts straight.

Despite what Western media and half of what Texas believes, India is not swarmed with people deprived of their basic needs. Although there are still parts of the country where people are under poverty, there are parts of the country where the community is much advanced. Heck! the state that I am originally from (look it up on National Geographic - as "Kerala" was named as the one of the best 50 places to visit), the literacy rate is 100%. Can any other place in the world claim the same ?

Rants aside, the Simputer was intended to help Govt employees, and employees of other corporations who had to send these people out to the remote areas of the country to educate and to help these people. You cant send them out to the far corners of the state with a notebook and a pen. You need them to have access to information, the same information that you would ultimately provide to the people who never had it. Understandably, food and clothing and a roof above your head are the basic amenities.

So please, if you really wanna know more about this country that you are so ignorant about, take a trip. Fsck the trip guides, ask someone who had been there, and take the untread path, and discover the heart of this beautiful country.

And while you are at it, dont miss out on my little South Indian state, learn more about it here

Q : Even if the motion picture and other industries come up with a system to protect this content with a broadcast flag, the security technology will just be broken into and made worthless in a very short time. Given that, what's the point?

What they really mean : Ofcourse they are going to crack this half assed security system. But we would go on pretending that its unbreakable. And we would hunt down and sue any half intelligent intellectual out there who attempt to crack it even for academic purposes. And yes we understand that even if someone cracks it, the majority of the dumb ass public wouldnt care, or wouldnt know, and hence most of our investment is still secure. i.e. until some one else figures out a way to get this crack to the masses. Then we would just put out another FAQ.

  10. Been playing the Army Ops from morning on Slashback: Armed, Cracked, Cables · · Score: 4, Funny

Its commmendable that they got it out pretty early, rather than making us wait for years (Duke Nukem). But there are a couple of things which are a bit funny.

After picking up your rifle, if I head off straight to the firing range, boom, the game brings me back in to face the seargeant. After this has happened a couple of times, I kinda loitered around the place after picking up my rifle, And bingo!, the Seargent asks me to move my butt, and I am placed in front of the firing range.

Interestingly, if you pick up your rifle, load up a clip and decide to get rid of the snappy sergeant, then you still could. But a moment later, you are in a 4x4 cell with a cot and a couple of books and could pretty much hear some one playing some musical instrument in the next cell. I guess there were others who tried the same thing.

So there are a couple of issues like the server being unresponsive (thousands of wannabe soldiers trying to connect) and the game not being as colorful as the unreal series. But hey, the realism of the game is what gets me. That and the fact that I scored 36 out of 40 in the Test Firing range. Do you think the US Army would hire sharpshooters based on this score ? :)

Couple of days back US warplanes dropped a bomb on a marriage party in Afghanistan killing over 50. And there hasnt been more than a couple of columns in the western media about the whole story. Is it because their lives are not important as the ones who perished on 9/11. If its confirmed that US fscked up by dropping the bomb, would the 40 men, women and children get any justice as well ?

Also recently Salon had an article on US Military Contractors buying and selling under age girls in troubled areas in Europe (Bosnia etc.). Would any western news firm pick up this story and let the world know that the Army isnt full of people who would lay down their lives in the blink of an eye for freedom and against oppression ? In this post 9/11 world, I would suprised if that news story ever got out. MSNBC ran a story on this a few weeks back, but didnt touch on the Military Contractors aspect. And then we wonder why everyone hates US ?

Being rich, being powerful, being able to garner the most media coverage seems to be the only way now to live.

Around 1800 people lost their livelihood because of some assholes in Worldcom. Would CNN/MSNBC etc. care a fsck about those people. Nope, we linger upon the luxurious indulgences of the CEOS and CFOs, but doesnt care jackshit about the ordinary guy who got laidoff and now has to find a job to support his family.

Companies screw each other and the public over and over everyday. I just heard a story of the root cause of all this being blamed on Clinton and Ben&Jerry. The reason being, Clinton and his Govt mandating that a CEOs base salary should never be over 1 million, but doesnt impose any ceiling on the amount of stock he could receive. Which leads to cooking the books and then laying of hundreds of people because the company cant survive.

Its a shitty world out there folks. And its not getting better day by day.
