"In nine months my contract as a research assistent at my Alma Mater will come to an end. It will not be renewed, I don't want it to be anyway. But outside the economy is too ill to welcome me. I am young. I am healthy. And I want to see the world before I've got the wife and the kids and the double mortgage. I have no money saved, and I don't plan to save some until then. What can a skillful geek (electrical, electronical and software engineer, speaks three languages fluently) like me do to see the world. Volunteer ? Working for a multinational with exchange programs? Something with no connection at all to the tech world? Please share your experience."
You are setting yourself up for the double mortgage by saying "nope not saving, I'll do it later". Well when later comes it's something else that needs the money, like kids needing this or that. Buck up, get a job and start saving now, so when you're 78 years old you can have someone empty your bedpan instead of laying in it for 4 hours.
"According to their website, The Perl Journal has gotten enough subscriptions to begin online release (the planning of which was previously covered, along with the concerns about not reaching their goal. The first (next) issue is expected in early November."
Who didn't see this happening? They'll publish 3 or 4 issues and then either quietly go away again or they publish 3 or 4 issues and mysteriously need more funds and start asking for more money.
Wal-mart was the retailer than pulled teh Goo-Goo Dolls album "A Boy Named Goo" because the boy on the cover had 'goo' that looked like blood and Wal-mart doesn't like to sponsor child abuse.
That is one view. I look at it liek this: DISH is cheaper than cable in most markets. But people don't want DISH or DirecTV if tehy can't get locals. cables will always offer locals. If it takes til 2010 to get the whole country's locals on DISH or DirecTV that sucks.
Yeah yay, so I get to keep my mast with antenna so I can get my locals. I do have a cable company but it offers 17 channels. DISH is cheaper for me and is a better quality. But hey thanks FCC, I don't need to see my local news without snow.
I wonder if we'd even HAVE Doom III now if it was written in asm.
Christ, you'd not want the guy I used to work with....3 hours a day he's doing personal stuff at work.
almost always? I'd say ALL the time.

yep per year. And that's an increase from the last job I had.
I'll do the job for 32k a year.

I have a choice. 17 channels 25 dollars for cable or 150 channels for 60 bucks. Can I have locals since I have a choice?
Dude? You have that too? If you find out what it is, please let me know.
This is why we need to get out there and vote Republican and have the Congress diominated by the right yet again.

A year ago I was not a Gen-Xer, now I am? I'm confused. I was born in 1972.
I have at least two Telemarketers that DO leave messages. It's annoying.
I'd say that it doesn't work. I've tried it. I've also worked as a telemarkter, we were told to ignore "Do NOT call" requests.
