    I'd like a government job. Most positions I see pay almost 10-12k more a year than I was making, in software development so I don't get the whole "you'll take a pay cut" talk.

    Pennsylvania just passed a similar law. It'll take 90 days to go into law. Strangely if you are under 60 the fine is 1000 dollars, if youa re over that age and they call you, it's 3 grand.

    I worked at a place where my first paycheck bounced. 6 months later, one of the interview questions was, "so how much do they owe you?"

    Perhaps when you go to the interview and there is a bean bag chair and a 2 by 4 laying on two buckets, you'll realize you ain't gonna get paid.

    Filtering spam correctly is impossible. It's like trying to figure out if something is junk mail just by feeling the envelope with your eyes closed.

    Well 99.999% of my junk mail has that "presorted first class" stamp. if email came with one of those it'd be simple to filter it.

    Car chases really do happen on the LA evening news.

    The first week I got my DISH system I spent flipping to the LA stations just to see another car chase. ANd it was not just the evening news, hell they'd break into any show and shwo the whole thing til it ended. insane shit.

    I've undertaken a project to rip them all, clean them, and put them on VCD so that I can still watch them (I hope!) when the hardware incompatability act of 2006 rolls around

    How does mandating HDTV by 2006 make your VHS tapes not play in your VCR on your TV?

    I've seen lots of Science Fiction movies about aliens that go from planet to planet, soaking up the natural resources of each, conquering and destroying them (making them uninhabitable), and moving on. Anyone else ever think we're the aliens? I mean, we've already screwed up this one, and now rather than fix it (because wanting to do that makes you a "tree hugger") we're going after another. I can't say I'm against it, but it's just...creepy.

    I'd wager that the various volcanoes erupting have casued more damage to the Earth than Humans have.

    Dude, that makes no sense. Windows itself is a monopoly, then they used that monopoly to force acceptance of IE. KDE isn't a monopoly, so they can't force anyone to use Konq. What's your argument?

    Meditation as a lifestyle has as a major side benefit; the 'grounding' of the organism that one inhabits. It (our Meat representation to the world) then calms down, and functions with optimal performance. I've also had vision difficulties recently that can totally be traced to stress. Stress can boost one's intraocular pressure (aggravating our friend's problem) as well as confusing the image processing areas of the brain. Try being Here and Now and see if that helps. (Zen skill acquisition is left as an exercise for the reader) I'm betting that it will. Worked for me!

    I highly doubt being Zenful is gonna bring his sight back....

    say you are taking 15 credits a semester. Multiply that by 3. 60 hours so far. 8 hours a sleep a nite is 56 hours a week. Total so far is 116 hours a week for studying and sleeping. 6 hours a week to eat. That's 122 hours a week. Let's assume you party(socialize outside yer room) 20 hours a week. 142 hours. 168 total in the week. 26 divided by 7 is 3 odd hours to watch TV or listen to music. is it worth it?

    And if you have 18 credits...well....

    A local college in Kirkland, WA has a CS degree program, the entire program is a string of Microsoft Certification courses. scary

    My friend is a dean at a college and he is proud that they offer Certs along witn there IT BS degree. I told him certs are useless. He wasn't amused

    Actually she was granted a reprieve when the appeals court said that since she committed adultery before the law was passed she shouldn't be stoned.

    I know of John. We were on a Computer list that was originally independent then went to onelist and then after a bunch of screw ups on Yahoo's part the list owner switched to freelists.

    They've been around awhile. They don't do a wide array of lists so I assume they are small to midsize. Drop them an email at staff@freelists.org or weez@freelists.org (John) I am sure they'll answer all your questions.
