  1. Harry Browne IRS commercial on Presidential Answers, Round One · · Score: 1

I love candidate Browne's commercial where they blow up the IRS and everyone runs around cheering. That was some funny stuff!

  2. If I had any talent... on More Opinions About Napster From Offbeat Artists · · Score: 1

I would probably embrace Napster and MP3.com as my best friends. They would allow me to share my art with others around the world. I've never really thought that the record industry really had the "art" as a main concern, but rather the money. When I imagine myself as a painter, or a sculptor, I don't see myself drowning in cash, or surrounded by chicks that want to have sex with me now matter how nasty I appear. I see people looking at what I've done, and taking it with them and appreciating that someone has a talent like that. Unfortunately, I can only draw stick figures, so that will never happen. Don't musicians usually make pretty good money on the road, sharing their talents with those willing to pay to see and hear it?

  3. I have always dreamed... on The Ultimate Monitor · · Score: 1

I have always wanted a wrap-around effect for gaming. Does anyone remember the cool thing you could do by networking doom between 3 computers and having each one be a different perspective? (front, left, right) That blew me away. As soon as some type of technology gets cheap, I'm buying it and changing my game field of view to 180, baby! I think that I would prefer a big scoop dish-type screen like the one that was recently posted.

  4. I just love it when... on Grokking The Gimp · · Score: 1

I talk to friends and ask them " did you do that in photoshop?" and they say "No, I used the GIMP!" I've been using the GIMP for a while now, and I find myself always trying to use it. Even if I'm working on a Windows machine, I fire up X-win and edit images with GIMP instead of photoshop or PSPro. I think I'm gonna buy this book, since I'm not really bright on the theory.

  5. Aibo...not all it's cracked up to be. on Second Generation Aibo Specs Officially Released · · Score: 1

Hey, my dog just barfed up a piece of turkey on my rug, then started to lick his balls. He also likes to smell his own farts. And when I yell at him, he wets himself. Can Sony make its overpriced furby do that? hmmmm?

Man, I wish I had an Aibo.

  6. Quake mod on Force-Feedback Devices Provide Virtual Texture · · Score: 1

I can see a cool quake mod for doctors. A guy gets shot up real good by some LPBastards and some med students log in and try to patch him back up. If they do something wrong, he gibs all over them. That would be awesome!

  7. yes... on Sony To Release New Pet Robot By Year's End · · Score: 1

but does it run on linux? Can we hack it and strap a palm on its back and make it balance our checkbook? hmmmm????

  8. Destination Mir on Mir Likely To Be Deorbited [Updated] · · Score: 5

Maybe this would be an excellent opportunity for Desenex to do some advertising! They could send up a guy to fumigate the place with spray powder and then put a big banner outside. "Desenex saved MIR!"

    That would rock

  9. I'm a former Software Etc. manager and... on PS2 Demand Will Not Be Met · · Score: 1

We used to use opportunites like this to make some good sales. When PlayStation demand was high and there was low supply, we could typically pre-sell them and have the money in the bank for a week or two before the product showed up and they picked it up.

For some reason, this is also when we sold a higher percentage of accessories, too...

Also, the more pre-orders that we could get, the more that we had access too in the long run.

  10. If only it didn't lose so much money on Easing Backbone Traffic By Scanning The Net · · Score: 1

The money issue is important because to date, no company is turning a profit at providing backbone connections. And InterNap itself is still losing money -- the publicly traded company reported losses of $43.4 million on revenues of $22.5 million for the first six months of this year.

Ouch! Too bad they're losing so much money. Is there any way to effectively make money as a backbone service provider? That has to suck.

  11. Surprised on Kernel Fork For Big Iron? · · Score: 1

I'm surprised that RedHat or some other big dollar linux company hasn't already begun R&D on something like this. Perhaps no one believes the market would support the amount of money it would take to develop and support it?

  12. Microsoft Chain letter scam on Microsoft's New Spamming Technique · · Score: 1

The next big thing from M$ will be a chain letter scam similar to this, but instead, they'll say:
You have been chosen for the MSNExplorer beta challenge! Please install MSN and forward this e-mail to all your friends! If you do, Bill Gates will think about giving you $934,209,394,203 dollars each second that you are on MSN. Try it! I just got $398,209,209,408,109,390,409 in the mail yesterday! Bill is such a generous guy!
    Microsoft! Microsoft! Microsoft!

This is utter bullcrap. I thought that MSN e-mail was supposed to be a service that you paid for. When I send a letter to a friend, the post office doesn't open it up and recommend to all of my recipeints that they never use FedEx or UPS. Free e-mail is a little different, like in the cases of hotmail and yahoo advertising themselves at the bottom of your messages. But MSN charges money, last time I checked.

    end rant

  13. Typical... on IIT To Review Carnivore · · Score: 1

This is just another taste of what we are going to be seeing from our beloved **cough** justice department. I am seriously wondering how much longer we will have any rights, since we already know that we cannot trust our own government. The most amazing part is the total ignorance on the part of almost all americans. And no one is willing to stand up and revolt. I hate to think about where we're going, because it scares me.
    Does it scare you?

  15. Stress on IT Stress In The Workplace · · Score: 1

I'm lucky. I work for a small produce company and I am their first and only IT person. What I say goes, so I guess I'm ok. The only point of stress I can think of is trying to get my boss to understand my long lunches and flexible hours. After all, if they expect me to be on call 24 hours/day even on vacation, and come in to do maintenance at night, they're gonna have to give a little.

  16. Massive problems on Massively Multiplayer Games On Consoles · · Score: 1

It will be interesting to see if we hear the same complaints of lag, server downtimes, and the like. Imagine a new slew of lawsuits against game companies just like when UO was getting sued. Or poor little jimmy getting banned because he keeps saying those dirty words he hears on television.

  17. Politics are alive in my home on The Last Days Of Politics · · Score: 1

I find myself reading everything I can about the candidates, watching every news channel I can find, looking for some shred of "good" journalism. The best info I can find, however, is on the web. The homepages of the candidates are the best resource so far, despite the FUD that I find there, too. I have definite beliefs and at this time, I feel like it is very difficult to find out what a candidate really thinks about issues that are important to me. They all want the same ends, but profess different means. I wish that we'd stop hearing so much "I want to save the children" and more of "This is why my plan is best for America." I would prefer having to pick the candidate I feel good about, not the one I feel "less bad" about.

  18. Sounds like a job for... on IOC Clamps Down on Athlete Web Diaries · · Score: 1

  19. Not sure... on Red Hat Linux 7 Released · · Score: 1

  20. I've stayed out of the console market on More on NVIDIA's Involvement In X Box · · Score: 2

so far, I've only played one game on my brother's playstation. I've always been a computer gamer. Looking at the stats on this thing and knowing that NVidia is putting some pretty killer hardware in there, I might have to consider one of these when they are released. Is there a price guesstimate out there anywhere?

Also, are there any major game makers planning on developing for the X-Box? Maybe an X-Box only type game? Like Mario is only for Nintendo, something like that?

Come to think of it, I wonder if the X-Box will have a mascot? Maybe a cute little Borg!
