Easy solution. Ever cooked a brat or a potato in the microwave? Just grab a fork and poke a few holes in the body and that'll let out the steam. No kaboom. Simple. Now, if you want to keep from even having to do that, just remove all the body fluids and replace them with buckwheat and rice. That way when you nuke it you can also pull the body's arm around your neck for a nice heating pad on the way to work. Enjoy!

The 'package' comes with a 256MB flash card. Whoop-di-do. You can hold four or five normal sized arcade games or perhaps one larger game. And it seems to be pre-loaded. Another poster mentions that they come on disk, but I didn't catch that in TFA. Either way, it's just the core system with a memory card and some relatively worthless games packaged in, "Boom-Boom Rocket, Pac-Man, Uno, Feeding Frenzy, and Luxor 2." Again, this according to TFA, which is leaked info. So it could be anything.

Still isn't worth it. Maybe a 2-8GB flash card would be worth it. 256MB might have been acceptable back with the original XBox, had that not come with a HDD standard.

The traditional meaning of communicate is "exchanging thoughts, ideas, and feelings by speaking or writing". So, my idea of communication is pretty spot on. With the friend code lock in, you can't really even say 'Good game' to random people. Unless I've missed something. And I'm a huge fan of Strikers: Charged. The random match-ups are a blast, but as with any random match up, sometimes you get a lame match were the other guy seems to be on a break, and nothing happens. Oh well. I own a Wii and a DS and they get more play time individually than my 360 or PS2.

Now, as to your claims that Nintendo doesn't know how to make an MMO? That's a rather moot point. Just because they haven't done something doesn't mean they can't. Nintendo has a long history of inventing or reinventing genres. If they wanted to, they certainly have the people and the power to make something amazing. If not, they know who to talk to, and could get the ball rolling mighty quick.

It's okay to be a fanboy, it really is. But you needent be a dick about it. Work on you dictionary.com skills and look up words before you start trolling. Try words like communicate, opinion, and theory. That last one is a good one. See, it means that if I say "probably..." that I'm making a conjecture as to why Nintendo is acting in a way that I do not understand. Combine that with 'opinion'. See what I'm getting at? Constructive criticism is usually welcome around here. And if you can say, "The reason Nintendo hasn't done an MMO is explained in this interview [insert link].." Then I'm more then happy to receive your comment.

Nintendo has traditionally stifled the idea mass-communication on their systems. Thus the friend codes on both the DS and the Wii. This probably keeps maintaining game network costs to a minimum as well. So building/maintaining even a simple MMO infrastructure is more than likely out of the question, as Nintendo seems rooted in not having subscriptions to play online.

Though if it ever changes, I think it'll work out pretty well. Not really sure what kind of MMO Nintendo might create (with Mario, Link, and all the other mascots), but I know the 3rd parties could come up with something.

I think I was typing two ideas at once. The turbo/piston thing is DEFINITELY related. Although I think you're more likely to fry your compression rings before you blow a piston, but that's not always predictable.

I realize I wasn't being too clear about my comparison.

Adding third party apps should be like adding seat covers or a 'foofy' steering wheel cover. It shouldn't really mess with the inner workings of the iPhone, and should be easy to get rid of them when you need to do so. Even perhaps with OS hacks, they shouldn't hurt the hardware at all. You might have to re-flash the main memory to fix a major problem, but that's it. It's quite obvious it can be done, because Apple is releasing a firmware update as it is.

If hacking the software really did actually harm the iPhone, like fry out the antenna or release some general magic smoke, then, yes, I would see it voiding warranties left and right. Perhaps Apple could offer it's (paid for by user) services of re-installing the OS for those whose phones become bricked. Or let us do it with iTunes.

Hopefully my analogy is more clear?

  14. Re:Auto makers have been doing it for years on Apple May Be Breaking the Law With Policy On iPhone Unlocks · · Score: 1
Try reading the example given again. The piston wasn't replaced with aftermarket parts. The situation is, if you were to install a turbo and you fried a piston due to the new turbo the warranty would not cover the damage. These parts are not directly related. As to another post about airbag circuitry included in the radio makes absolutely no sense. Not because it isn't true, but because factory radios are known to be very faulty...

This relates to the iPhone ordeal because a third party application certainly can interfere with other parts of the systems, but it should never 'brick' a system. At least the user should be able to un-install and be done with it. But if you modify the system files you might be in a bit more trouble. The internal memory can obviously be edited by Apple remotely, so why not make it 'resetable' from iTunes to rid it of the unlocking if that is what needs to be done?

Any car reseller, big or small, will tell you that installing 3rd party stuff in your car voids the warranty, and if you're not willing to fight, they'll walk all over you. Usually it's things like turbos and aftermarket brake systems, but sometimes they'll try to get away with little stuff. I have an aunt who had a new stereo installed to replace the factory tape deck (about 5 years ago) and when there was an ABS problem they tried to say that the CD player voided all warranties. Until I called them...

iPhones can probably play the same crap. As long as they warn you that 3rd party software or hardware may brick the system, they're fine. Nintendo just did that with Metroid Prime 3. There is a warning saying that upgrading the firmware will most likely brick machines with mods, and even gave instructions on how to circumvent the installation. You couldn't play the game, but at least you don't have a brick.

When there's a video game that makes the player depressed, that's when the medium might be onto something as an art form, Dirda said. It's easy to like something that makes you feel powerful in its fantasy world, as games generally do. But would anybody play a game that makes him sad?

Would they indeed..? Games are generally meant to entertain. Perhaps one could focus on the delivery of of the story. Graphics matter, but not a lot. (FFVI? Chronotrigger? Illusion of Gaia?)

Music entertains, TV and movies entertain as well. There are a lot of music and books out there that are depressing. A lot of it can make you feel depressed if you let yourself become drawn in. See the first few minutes of High Fidelity for an interesting monologue (I'd link imdb if I weren't at work).

I seriously doubt I'd continue to play a game that affected my mood enough to throw me into depression. I don't listen to music that makes it easy for me to be drawn into depression either. It's just not healthy. Music can help a person face their emotions, which is good. But anything that has a negative affect is just that, negative. Movies could have the same effect... Chasing Amy

To wrap it up I personally think the idea of a game that is meant to depress a person is a terrible thing (as with other media). Invoking actual emotions such as anger, sadness, remorse... that's good. People should be able to feel those. If a form of media helps to explore an emotion, it should be considered a form of art. Also, with games, you can have a rich mixture of visual, audio and written (storyline) art that is very engrossing... in short, art.

I find that only games that are just HORRIBLE are the games that are depressing... I suppose that in that context ET is a form of art.
