Good point. I've got a friend who worked in a local Wal-Mart's electronics department for years. When iPods became popular enough for Wal-Mart to begin selling accessories for it, every customer knew that Apple iPods. Not computers. I don't think Wal-Mart cares about Mac or Linux users. Sadly, people who shop the electronics section at Wal-Mart can often be assumed to be completely computer illiterate, and Wally World knows that.
If an 'associate' were to hand Joe Sixpack a card that says "go to this site and download music," and makes it easy. Joe Sixpack is likely to do it.
I see you're catching a lot of flak for lamenting your friends' wasted time in MMO's. I agree with you. It would be nice if the people who spend 4-8 hours nightly raiding spent 4-8 hours a day at a community center working with at risk youth, or volunteer some time at the senior center keeping the elderly company.
I play WoW, but I don't know that I ever feel a sense of accomplishment. Being that even in the virtual realm the actions of my characters never change anything. Monsters respawn and the quests you do never actually help the quest giver. Meh... I just play to 'hang out' with old friends and coworkers.
That gives me an interesting (though offtopic) idea. What if, somehow, total homosexuality (rather than the opportunistic type that is clearly natural) is a result of over-population? It clearly has been increasing as society gets more dense... donno, that's a big assumption, just interesting. I think that's a pretty valid point as well. The original reply to my post mentions that animals tend just hump whatever happens to be around (in a manner of speaking, not trying to put words in the poster's comment, but that's what I got out of it). Probably goes the same for humans. Population density reaches high levels and homosexuality is more prominent. It's possible.
I think you both have VERY valid points. I think the GP poster, however, is pointing out that homosexuality by its own merit and/or purpose, cannot be a result of nature or natural selection (evolution). [shrugs] But you do what you want on your planet, and I'll do what I want on mine....
Often times Target will sell Game Boy and DS carts for 5-10 bucks off in the US. Haven't seen that kind of discount for any disk-based media though. About the best I've seen for disk based is extra trade-in value for a particular game at EB/Gamestop.

I work in health care and, thus, am very well aware of HIPAA compliance. I haven't had time to review Vista's EULA, but I can attest that if there is anything stating that MS has the right to look at or control the information contained or transmitted to or from any licensed computer that Vista will be prohibited from the health care industry.
HIPAA is extremely strict about releasing patient information. People loose their jobs just for viewing information without a 'business need to know'. After some news anchor was in the clinic I work for about 20 people lost their jobs because they checked his file to see why he was here.
(that's what I thought when I upgraded from 98SE to ME, what a disaster). I'll never forget having to fix my friends old laptop with ME on it. After one week the thing wouldn't run correctly and he hadn't even connected the thing to the internet. Just installed a couple games and Office. First thing I did was wipe the drive and install 2000. Which is probably what I'll do if Vista is as bad as everyone claims. But I really won't know until I get my hands on it.
I've been in love with shmups for ages. Ever since the first time I played Gradius I was hooked. I've got a pretty nice back-catalog and I can honestly say that my appetite hasn't been sated. What I need to do is pick up a PS2 for R-Type: Final and Gradius V. Though I remember not liking Gradius V because the options pissed me off (only four on screen at once, other gripes).
I, for one, wouldn't mind seeing some newer, graphics intense shmups. Though I still cannot beat Ikaruga on any difficulty setting.
I think it's more like the headline should be, "Stupid People Still Stupid".
Just look up the definition of stupid. "Lacking ordinary quickness or keenness of mind". Meaning they either don't know how to learn the skills or simply don't care and ignore their teacher. You meet a lot of these people. Getting angry at the teacher might be justifiable, but as long as the information is presented, and the student wants to learn, there will likely be some skills picked up.
Okay, I've got to ask. What's with all the C&C Generals hating? It's the only C&C game I've been able to truly enjoy. I've never liked any of the others in the series. I've had a chance to play them all but couldn't ever get into them. I love RTS games and very much enjoyed every Warcraft. Can someone explain some of the main gripes/differences?
I knew a guy back in hi school who tried to take apart a microwave in electronics. When the teacher came back, he almost emptied the room and let him turn it on with everyone else safely on the other side of the locker bank outside. But figured it would bite him in the ass later in life and decided to prevent him from powering the thing up.
Brain to brain networking would be cool to, maybe. Not if someone hacks into your brain and fills it with porn, penis enlargement, and second mortgage ads. Nothing worse than having to 'click-through' just to brush your teeth...
That's exactly what I was thinking. We played that game a lot. Eventually I got so good at it that my roommates would no long play with me. So we started doing multiplayer vs. main. This mode was a lot of fun because we could put it on any difficulty and my roommates wouldn't get so angry when they could kill me quicker and join up against me. They got lots of respawns, I got none.
I don't know a lot about solar cells. I do know that sunlight is converted into electricity. Wouldn't they absorb the heat and turn it into electricity? I thought that was the point. Thus not needing to worry about ambient temp increase? Like I said, not an expert. Just a wannabe enthusiast. Please correct me.
I always loved that cheesy dialog. Especially since it always sounded like they recorded everything in a tin can (you know, for the in-a-castle echo effect).
Well, I am VERY tempted to acquire a 360 at this point. But I'm waiting for a bigger HDD to be included. Even if it never happens. 20GB is somewhat ludicrous. Take a quick look at the pricewatch page for notebook drives. About half the price of the 360 drive and 4 times the storage! That's still a very nice markup for MS on accessories.
However, how many folks are out there downloading Live Arcade games without an HDD?
I haven't a clue as to the number, but I think it's very easy to know the why people w/o the HDD don't download a lot of games. The memory cards are $40. That's why. Without the HDD you need a memory card for almost every game on XBArcade. $40 plus each title's cost! That's BS. I've said that from the beginning too. I was outraged by the 'premium' and 'core' 360's and by the PS3 tiered system as well.
What's the biggest problem? I may have to buy a 360 now just because SotN has been ported to it. I've got the original on PSOne, and I can't get to gaming websites, so if anyone could reply to this about any extras in the 360 version for SotN that would be great. (updated graphics? more animations? extra weapons/rooms?)
That's mostly what I was going for with my original comment. It seems like a lot of people will push a game because of how many ads they bought in the current issue of their magazine or on their website. Also, these days great games get crappy reviews and crappy games can get great reviews.
The thing that really nicks me is that a game can get a bunch of 8's out of 10 for a rating and be absolutely amazing, but just didn't have the media push to give it the 9 it deserved. And 7's and 8's are used far too often. Most likely because editors are afraid of losing status if they give a truly mediocre game the 5 or 6 it deserves.
I don't understand what's so hard about reporting it stolen, Cingular sends a signal to the ESN, effectively bricking the phone. It transmits it's signal until the battery dies, regardless of if there is a SIM card in it. Pull the battery and it stops, replace that battery and it broadcasts "I'm stolen, here I am." again. Stealing it would get you nowhere. No camera, no games. Nothing. Just a brick with a battery.
doesnt that defeat the purpose of review sites/magazines? Exactly.
You can't read an unbiased opinion in the media these days. The best you will get is to find an editor or two who share your opinion and stick with them. But good luck because it's going to cost you hundreds to find out if you're right. And at $50+ a pop, it's not worth it. The only thing they're good for is showing screen shots or in-game footage. On occasion you can rely on them to tell you how well a game controls.
The only way to know how well a game will entertain you.. is to play it. So it's borrowing from a friend or renting it before you buy it if you're into that sort of thing. It sucks, but I can't afford to buy more than 3-4 games a year at full price, so if I can't borrow it or at least just know it's going to be good, I probably won't pick it up.

It wouldn't be funny if he didn't pronounce 'gigawatts' wrong.

It's not Windows. It's sol.exe
Well played, Nexx. Well played.
You forgot that 'hiw' isn't a word. The poster meant 'hit'.
Please turn in your Spelling Nazi insignia by the end of the day.
