Sony do the same thing with myriad rehashes of Crash, Spyro, Gran Turismo (same game, same cars, SHINIER SPECULAR HIGHLIGHTS, same lawnmower engines, MORE LEAVES ON THE TREES).

Funny you should mention that. I agree completely. I'm still playing the original Gran Turismo. I own GT3, but I don't have a PS2 (long story), but I like GT3 better because the load times are faster. Not so concerned about how shiny the cars are or the leaves on the trees. I like being able to tune my cars the way I want. Not a chance in hell I'll be getting a PS3 for GT5 or whatever they have. Prohibitally expensive. What do I get? Like you said, leaves on trees, but also a physics engine that has been marginally tweaked since the last iteration, but it basically the same as the first. Not worth the 700 bucks (I wouldn't buy the 'base' system).

Somehow, to me, IX felt like a weak remake of VII with a less complicated love story (they must have learned their lesson with VIII, not sure if I said it, but I couldn't finish it because I hated it). The main character was basically a clone, like Cloud. He had to come to terms with it and overcome it, like Cloud. It just wasn't as severe. Vivi's plot line was interesting, but I felt like he was whining more than anything. I liked Steiner's plot the most, really. The guy wanted nothing more that to serve in his place, have his honor, and nobody would let him, so he had to adapt to the situation, though it frustrated him to the top of his capacity.

I just felt like some of the plot lines were recycled. Oh, and for the record, my favorites are VI, IV, VII, IX and after that, not sure. I'm playing III on the DS, One was innovative, but there wasn't a plot. I've not had the pleasure of V, and my copy of Origins was stolen before I got too far on II.

Maybe 5% are bad and some people get screwed multiple times.

When I read the headline, I though this guy had gotten six consecutive bad 360s, but then when I read TFA it became clear that he had to replace six, not one six times. Which could mean he doesn't know how to take proper care of them.

But if your failure rate is 10% then to get 7/7 bad 360s your odds are one in 10,000,000 (10^7). If it were 5% odds would be one in 1,280,000,000 (20^7).

I think this thread is easily related to the discussion on the Wii controls. I feel much more in control when I'm playing the Wii. For much the same reason that people like having the steering wheel for racing games. Or just look at Steel Battalion. People like being in control. And the standard controller is essentially dead. I guess that would be cool with a FPS or something, but nothing pisses me off more in an RPG when a battle is not winnable, but sustainable. I can't think of an example off-hand, but it's when no matter what you can't beat the enemy, but there isn't an implication that you can't. Yeah, he's kicking your ass, but you can stay in it. The only reason this pisses me off is that I'll use EVERY tactic I've got to try to beat the enemy. So if I've got one-shot items and the like, I'll use them. Only to find that I never would have beaten the boss and I've lost all my items. Which forces reloading the game. Which forces me to waste time.

I don't like people who don't buy music because they can download it for free. Support the damn artists if you can. I know they're generally getting screwed, but do what you can. Yeah, I take a pretty firm stand when it comes to music piracy. I'll make a CD for a friend if I think they'll enjoy a band. But that's all they get. I've ended up thinking vastly less a few people because they wanted a copy of my library for their benefit. Most of my stuff is from private labels and the like. DVD didn't seem to become the everyday standard until players could be sold sub $100. That's when VHS was forced into the backseat at major retailers like Wal-Mart and Best Buy. Sure, lots of early adopters loved DVD and didn't mind paying high premiums (yes, above $100) for players, but once you could get the players for under $100 everyone had one. Though you will still overhear the occasional customer screaming at a Wal-Mart employee because his new DVD player wouldn't play his VHS cassettes.

Blu-Ray or HD-DVD won't become standard unless their players can out price DVD players.
