    I think he means the current implementation of copyright law sucks, which is no longer about providing incentive for real individuals to create*, but to provide a perpetual profit machine to fictitious entities (corporations), as well as a large club with which to beat down anyone who might suggest creative works enter the public domain. Mickey Mouse should have been in the public domain a long time now, but is not. The Beatles song catalog should be in the public domain, but is not. In fact, according to the original copyright laws, anything created before 1975 should be public domain (hey, that includes me!). So, no matter what the good intentions of copyright law were, like patent law, copyright truly sucks today. Just another good idea gone to shit because of greed.

    * US Constitution, Article I, Section 8, Clause 8: To promote the Progress of Science and useful Arts, by securing for limited Times to Authors and Inventors the exclusive Right to their respective Writings and Discoveries. The end run around this, of course, is to extend the definition of limited time whenever Sen. Fritz Hollings gets a nervous call from Mickey.

    Neither. Your argument is specious, because what you're referring to is inheritance, not typing. Inheritance is another aspect of OOP that says "If my parent is an Object(), by definition, I am an Object(), too." However, in your example, myvar will only have the properties and methods of Object(), not Foo(), unless you cast myvar like ((Foo)myvar).someFooMethod() (which disproves your argument, by the way).

    Java is strongly and statically typed. To prove it, try this:

    String s = "Poop";

    s = new Integer(23);

    You'll notice a compilation error about incompatible types.

But they quickly became bored with us, sniffed one another's asses, and then chased down a gazelle for an early supper.

    It sounds like you're really talking about content management more than version control. Maybe Zope and Plone will do it for you? Out of the box it gives you versioning, authentication and a decent database. The database isn't the most scalable, but you can extend it to use any number of database and database-like backends, like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Berkeley, and various pay-for dbs.

    Not it can't. You gave an opinion, you made assertions, but opinions and assertions aren't proof of anything (unless you're George Bush), nor do they define the requirements of a scientific law.

    Evolution is a theory right now (wow you're brilliant for pointing that out) in scientific terms, meaning that for all practical purposes it works, but it can still be overturned given enough evidence.

    Right. That's what I said. Science is based on exactly this sort of thinking: "This is what we currently think is true, but will accept evidence to the contrary." However, you want to argue that your belief - that the mechanics of evolution (the theory part) are forever proven - is a better belief than the belief of Creationists - God made it all in seven days, all because you had a bad experience with the nuns in grade school, read too much Nietzsche or some other such nonsense. That's unscientific thinking.

    Like I said, I don't believe that it could ever be, though.

    Again: how is your belief different from the beliefs of Creationists?

    Use SpamCop instead to report spam. It very effectively roots out all of the admins involved in the spam's lifecycle, and allows you to forward a report to said admins, hiding your real email address (replies from admins, in the rare case you get any, are routed anonymously to you through SpamCop).

    I don't know where you live, but if that civilization is anything like ours (the US), the signal is the inanities of everyday life: either toothpaste commercials, warlords rallying the public (i.e., Hitler, Bush, et al.) or reruns of old "I Love Zgrxqklop" episodes. We hate knowledge and learning here in the States - and are in fact proud of our ignorance - so we ain't be broadcasting no encyclopedias anytime soon.
