HM Customs can do this already in the UK

Have been able to do it for hundreds of years. Their powers are greater than those of the Police. Nothing like the threat of a bit of tax evasion or smuggling to have the government breaking down your doors freezing your bank accounts and seizing your assets.
The reason I mentioned customs is that they handle fakes, counterfeiting etc here.
When you are repeatedly typing lists of commands in at the command line it gradually dawns on you that you might be able to put the commands into a file and have the computer run through them for you. That's called programming. Making the leap from shell programming to lower level languages is simple.
Apropos? Yes that's the word that springs instantly to mind when looking for help on something... Apropos. Not "help", no never. Who would ever think of typing "help"?
Unfortunately the FSF created info which does this but is otherwise utterly horrible, thereby making a sane solution more complex.
There's no need for anything other than an HTML index to all of the manual pages with a summary of each command which is grabbed out of the first description paragraph of each page. help could be aliased to lynx on the command line or netscape if your DISPLAY is set.
Big 40 watt speakers, some Motorhead playing with the volume at 11 on the boombox gives me loads of space on the tube and on busses. Doesn't half go through a shit load of batteries though.
So you can be 10x more efficient with your systems than you can on an individual basis. Assuming you design your system archtecture with a bit of thought. Of course, very few do.
Since this is just the start, it looks like Linux is going to suffer from the same problem OS2 suffered from... Good enough emulation...
Why bother creating Linux applications when your Windows software will run with little or no modification. It makes more sense for the application developers to turn Linux into a Windows emulation platform. Sure it'll be a pain in the arse and run like shit but the application developers get to put a tick in the "runs on Linux" box while making little or no investment in Linux and doing little or no Linux development.
One of the reasons I don't support WINE. Linux is better off with native applications. But linux adoption will suffer without I hear you cry. Bollocks, Linux is one of the purest markets, if there's a demand, the software appears in commercial or free versions.
But it only makes sense if you only ever consider the first 3 years (i.e. the warranty period) of a car's life. After that the car gets passed on to the second user market, no longer with a warranty.
How does the new owner of a perfectly good 3 year old car replace the battery? It becomes an hour labour for a mechanic plus the cost of the battery (90). And think about the amount of time you have to take out of your day to take the car to a dealer's garage, several hours. It only takes 10 mins to replace a battery normally (30). How about a new fan belt?
The problem with manufacturers who think like this is that they only care about the first user who buys the car new from a showroom. The second and subsequent users are irrelevant to them. This will obviously affect the resale value of their cars.

Little old grannies. No kidding.
See all that money their now deceased men folk paid into pension schemes for decades? They want it back... With interest...

They have to in the UK. The vacuum tubes used in domestic installations these days are around 80% efficient at collecting solar energy and converting it into heat, about 1kW/m^2 here, more as you get closer to the equator and less through winter.
You simply size the system to provide the amount of heat you want at the time of year you want, the heat is stored in a water tank until required. Solar thermal systems are quite a bit cheaper to implement than photovoltaic.
Before you do *any* of this stuff.

Insulate your house. Insulate your attic, insulate the walls, insulate the pipes and add secondary glazing. It's the cheapest and most effective thing you can do.

ReiserFS seems to be fairly good at packing files into a smaller space. 10% on a 300Gb disk is 30Gb more space available after all.
While Microsoft is drawing lines from here to there, Linux is performing a flood fill.
NASA want to stop maintaing the Hubble because it's too expensive. We're talking half a billion dollars just for the shuttle launch alone.
Well, have they put it out to tender? Maybe someone else can do it cheaper. Economically even.

2 access points, one wireless card, 21" CRT and and array of insanely bright blue LEDs. I'll be done in a couple of hours.
Nah. All the other countries should learn to speak english. We can always just speak louder and slower at them when they don't uderstand.
Naw. Micrsoft are pillars of society. They would never do a thing like that.
It's implementing them that is difficult...
Which is why patents should only be granted the demonstration of a working example...

Is purely a function of the number of pint glasses on your table.

Basically my job has become one of electronic paper pushing and I'm just not interested. I'll be leaving in June.
And it can wiggle.
That's it?
But can it do the dishes? Vacuum? Take out the rubbish? Press the TV channel change button?
Only 30 years to catch up with IBM. Have they even caught up? Sorry if I don't get over excited about this.

The small cheapo ones don't have gyros. The more expensive, larger RC ones usually do.
