One line I was looking for was where Vetch's sister asks why they are packing food on the boat when they could just say 'meatpie' and have something to eat. Ged explains that they'd just be eating their words and then goes on to some details on how magic works in their world (been a few years since reading it). Nothing. Magic was just used as a plot conveiance, with scarely more meaning than in the Harry Potter books.
I guess it's all through pop culture now, where nothing has any real moral challenges anymore. Why should I expect pop SF/Fantasy to be different. Only the dead live lives of fearlessness. Why are we trying to drain life out of our culture?
I've moved from an algorithm to a keyboard pattern for my passwords. Without having a keyboard in front of me, I could not tell anyone what my password it. My fingers know where to go, though. Just have to update all my website logins.
You'd be surprised just how computer literate a 4 year old can be. Had to get her her own computer as she managed to trash some game files on mine (she wanted to play Baldur's Gate or, as she calls it, Dungeons and Goblins and Some Dragons). She used to sit and watch me play and was able to remember the icon on my dock for the game. She right clicked, though, and went to the application folder and then right clicked again and sent the executable to the trash.
After that, I installed a second drive that by default, isn't mounted and is passworded. Between that, and the motion sensor outside her bedroom (she's real quiet, trying to sneak around after bedtime), I think I'm safe. At least until she's learns to use the terminal and starts trying to hack my machine...
If you're in the Tampabay area, there's a magazine guy in the Oldsmar Fleamarket that specializes in Playboy. I picked up a brail edition Playboy as a gift for my Dad. One of the coolest things I've ever seen.
As for the porn, I'm not too worried about that. It's less than 20GB and, if it was to all vanish tomorrow, usenet would no doubt be able to supply replacements. Actually, maybe running a newsgroup server might be a good idea. Hmm...
...is much easier to hide on a computer, compared to hard copy. Do you have any idea how much space 100k+ pics would take up, on paper? And the printing costs. Oh my!
Just look what happened to the 'paperless office' idea.
Within our IT office, most of our day-to-day work is done without paper. Sure, the programers keep printing out stuff but the rest of us manage just fine. It's when you leave our office and have to interact with the rest of campus that the paper is needed.
Most of the Apple hardcore loyalists would drop Apple like it had a big nasty worm.
Why? I've used nothing but Macs (other than my TI 99/4A). What would a merger with IBM have to do with people leaving the Apple platform? If anything, IBM's economy of scale manufacturing should make Macs less expensive. That would be fine by just about every Mac user I know.
Hey, frogs could grow claws and live in toilets too!
I found a giant tree frog in my toilet one morning. When I tried to fish him out, he retreated down the hole and I had to get to work. He wasn't there when I got home. About a month later, moving a desk, I found his mummified body.
It run fine on our cheap Dells at work. They only have 512MB RAM and WinXP. Do you have a lot of songs? Our receptionist machine (where we all take turns on phone duty) has about 5000 songs and is as fast as iTunes on my G5 Mac.
...computer, a/v equipment, car, etc. in over 5 years. What's the point? I buy just discontinued stuff and have no problems. Plus, the features/price ratio is great!

I really shouldn't lend books to women I date...
I once gave a 150 year old reprint of Shakespeare's first folio to a girl I was trying to get in bed. No nookie for me and she kept the book. Doh!
Hell, they had John Wayne play Temujin Khan in "The Conquerer". Hollywood sucks ass!

I've gone and soiled my armor. Again. Damned creaming pants reflex.
Got a new laser pointer and was trying to piss off someone near Antares. Doh!
They have all those smart people in StarGate command. Maybe they brought back a version of Windows from an alternate universe?
The first replicators would be seized by the war lords and set on non-stop AK-47's?
You've never tried civet poop coffee?
I like my women like my scotch. 12 years old and mixed up in coke.

There's always QPict. It can easily handle a 100k file "clip-art" collection.
These things are totally cool. Would love to find one for my four year old daughter. It's the perfect toy: QUIET!

Hey, you've posted lots of times since this post. What's up with that?
Look at graphic chips. They're specialized and can be used for other type of work.
...$75, using these cases and floppy drives I found out back of this elementary school.
$54.00. It'll run GeOS, which everyone knows is just as good as OSX. It'll be cool.
I tried each of his 'die*.html files and none of them killed my browser. Most just resulted in blank pages.
I'm using Safari, on OS X (10.3.5)
