    You dont really need make uninstall. Just use ./configure --prefix=/opt/pkg-x.x.x that way its easy to keep track of your installted packages. Uninstall == rm -rf /opt/pkg-x.x.x, same thing with upgrades and such.
    I've found this really helps me keep the additional installed packages organized.

    If THEY want to, they can go after the people running the Freenet servers. They run on certain port, i'm sure there is a way to distinguish Freenet traffic from rest of the traffic on the network. But that is in the extreme case to wait a few years or decades before this thought is fully realized.

    Even though I use Office/Word on ocassion as well as OpenOffice. I just find it much easier to as the documents in the .rtf (Rich Text), I have never had issues where people have not been able to open any document in .rtf format. Just a thought.

    I have to disagree with you on this point. A lot of people had large sums of life insurance, but the insurance companies went to the Washington and said that if they had to pay out all the policies they would go bankrupt. Hence Washington said, this was an act of terrorism people can collect on the insurance policies they had, but Washington will pay a certain amount depending on the amount of money any given person made.

    Now, this is what irks me. NO one is the media talks about this point. We are a capitalist country there for the insurance companies should have been made to make payments regardless if there is a possibility of them going bankrupt. That is the risk they took while underwriting those policies.

    Just another example of Washington being the pocket of Big Business and bailing them out one more time.

    Look if you are if you are scared about your "privacy" then be smart and disable the intruding technology. The simplest way that I can think of is, shit remove the damn chip, you know because Michelins are good tires. There is always this talk on slashdot about the "man" infringing on our rights. You could be right, but as far as I can see any technology can be disabled as long as I can get my hands on it.

    If you read the article, and more importantly paid attention. In the article they are not simply talking about any old civic, the civic in question is a 10 second 1/4 mile car. No matter how easy you think drag racing a civic is from behind your desk, if you havent been racing (on the track or street) its no peice of cake.

    PS: a desk jockey like you probably drives an automatic any ways so STFU.

    I work for a small insurance broker called Dollar Insurance Services Inc. We had this guy squatting on our domain for a while and we could not come to an agreement and he let the domain expire on Jan 6th 2001. I have been in constant touch with Network Solutions for last 7-8 months, the only answer I get from them is that the domain is currently blocked and cannot be registered until it is released back into public domain. I asked them that how long do they keep a domain blocked until it is released and their response was that there is no set time period so I should check every day to see its been released. Any ideas from the Slashdot community to get this released other than to just register the one of the .biz or .ws type alternative domains.

    Also they have ecoders for Linux X86, BEOS and WIN.

    Forget Napster Gnutella already has support for every freaking format there is or any new formats you could ever come up with.
