Did IQs drop sharply while I was away? Did I stumble unwittingly into a parallel dimension?
Windows "outselling" Linux? Sure. That's kind of the point. Windows costs money, and not a little of it. Linux can be had for free.

Bullshit, ever try to send email with a MS server? Give me LAMP anyday..
"hassle free and rapid support from Microsoft"?
Don't make me laugh. Ever call MS and ask them to fix a bug in their product? Did they fix it, or give you a workaround?
if someone pulled that trick there would be a solid punch in the arm by all who were afflicted. Gawd bless ol' negative reinforcement.
Not to be pedantic, but the behavior you just described is called punishment. Negative reinforcement would be removing an unwanted stimulus (like your mom nagging you to clean your room until you do it).
Being a geek doesn't necessarily mean computer geek you know. Tolkien invented the Elvish language, for Bob's sake. I would consider that quite geeky. (in a good way, of course!)
Exactly. There is a common misconception that evolution is about selecting the optimal design, and that things tend to get progressively better. Unfortunately, only those traits which confer both a reproductive advantage and are able to spread throughout the gene pool will be passed down. In light of this, evolution is the only explanation for the "good enough" qualities which makes sense.
Maybe it means the "Intelligent Designer" is imcompetent, or just mean spirited. For more evidence, see the following design flaws: The Human Back, The Prostate Gland, The Appendix, and The Human Eye (blind spot).
Gee. Or maybe the scientific theory of evolution makes sense after all.
Yet Sony still price their sets like they have no competition.
That makes an interesting corrolation between American automakers in the 70's and 80's getting beat out by the Japanese (and slowly adapting), and now the Japanese electronics vendors vs the Korean and Chinese electronics vendors seem to be going through the same thing..
Same here. Visited the site, got a huge <flash click here to play> button and a respawning popup. Not a shred of info about the game, where to buy it, system specs, anything. Oh, well.
I guess this depends on whether you consider W3Schools to have a "web savvy" audience. Which they probably do to some degree, but my guess it's more like the "my first web site" crowd.

Sir, I must take exception to your post. Notepad is in no way, shape, or form a regular powerdrill! It's more like one of those toy hand cranked drills that excels at drilling through cardboard.
Wow, I use GAIM and/or AIM everyday at work, and this is the first time I've every heard of "nudge" or "wink". The only feature I really miss in GAIM is the ability to exchange files with AIM users. If that worked properly, I could promote GAIM to all my co-workers without hesitation.
I know where you're coming from. Non-programmers, it seems, don't understand that we need our full concentration to do our jobs. Or maybe they just don't care. The coworker in the cubicle across from me is a nice guy, but he gets a lot of company. Nothing like having 4 dorks standing outside your cubicle chatting for an hour when you're trying to debug a web application. And don't get me started about managers who thinks it necessary to pay a visit in person -even if you're in full hack mode- to ask the most banal of questions.
You're the one trolling, oh Anonymous One. If a story offends you, there is no need to reply or even read it. How dare you speak for the entirety of Slashdot in poo-poohing a story which some may find interesting.
Free Mars? I'll take it!
It has something to do with Javascript. Disabling Javascrip allows one to select text on the page with Firefox.
Maybe you should check the site's tagline. News for nerds..
Well, it works if "bar" is a non-integer field and "blah" IS an integer..

Are you sure you're not thinking of Rambus, and the SDRAM DDR fiasco?
Sorry professor. Please don't dock my grade!

Yep.. and if/when they corner the market on live services, watch them start droping support for alternative browsers such as Firefox.
"The ironing is delicious."
It tastes like burning!

Better yet:
I got my first TV set, a 19" Admiral B&W set, for my 8th birthday back in the 1960s.
Damn, is your family the Rockefellers or something? That would be like an 8 yr old getting a 50" plasma TV today.
Yet Sony still price their sets like they have no competition.

I use Firefox's Live Bookmarks to visit pages on the BBC site at least once a day. But I never use their homepage, so I guess those won't be counted.

Huh? "Good" and "Evil" are relativistic terms. Do you think the antelope consider lions to be evil?
So that's why the Portage system has so many winking smiley faces.. ;-)
