    It has something to do with Javascript. Disabling Javascrip allows one to select text on the page with Firefox.

    Windows "outselling" Linux? Sure. That's kind of the point. Windows costs money, and not a little of it. Linux can be had for free.

    Don't make me laugh. Ever call MS and ask them to fix a bug in their product? Did they fix it, or give you a workaround?

    Not to be pedantic, but the behavior you just described is called punishment. Negative reinforcement would be removing an unwanted stimulus (like your mom nagging you to clean your room until you do it).

    Exactly. There is a common misconception that evolution is about selecting the optimal design, and that things tend to get progressively better. Unfortunately, only those traits which confer both a reproductive advantage and are able to spread throughout the gene pool will be passed down. In light of this, evolution is the only explanation for the "good enough" qualities which makes sense.

    I got my first TV set, a 19" Admiral B&W set, for my 8th birthday back in the 1960s.

    Damn, is your family the Rockefellers or something? That would be like an 8 yr old getting a 50" plasma TV today.

    Yet Sony still price their sets like they have no competition.

    That makes an interesting corrolation between American automakers in the 70's and 80's getting beat out by the Japanese (and slowly adapting), and now the Japanese electronics vendors vs the Korean and Chinese electronics vendors seem to be going through the same thing..

    I guess this depends on whether you consider W3Schools to have a "web savvy" audience. Which they probably do to some degree, but my guess it's more like the "my first web site" crowd.

    Wow, I use GAIM and/or AIM everyday at work, and this is the first time I've every heard of "nudge" or "wink". The only feature I really miss in GAIM is the ability to exchange files with AIM users. If that worked properly, I could promote GAIM to all my co-workers without hesitation.

    I know where you're coming from. Non-programmers, it seems, don't understand that we need our full concentration to do our jobs. Or maybe they just don't care. The coworker in the cubicle across from me is a nice guy, but he gets a lot of company. Nothing like having 4 dorks standing outside your cubicle chatting for an hour when you're trying to debug a web application. And don't get me started about managers who thinks it necessary to pay a visit in person -even if you're in full hack mode- to ask the most banal of questions.
