Considering in Ontario and Quebec, the Catholic system has higher grades and better teaching than the public system? Well I guess we should just get rid of it.
And even at that, at least where I live the number of people pulling kids and homeschooling is on the rise because the general quality of education being taught on the whole has dropped through the floor in the last 15 years.
It is a hobby, I'll be I, or anyone on/. or in general can tell you the number of times I get obsessed over books, movies, etc, and kept going, and going, and going. Until it interferes with a part of their life as well.
Simply because it's one thing, doesn't mean people don't do the same thing with other hobbies. I had a girlfriend who's hobby was knitting, and knitting to the point where it actively interfered with our relationship...that's all she wanted to do. I even had buddies from back in my highschool days who were serious gearheads and that interfered with other parts of their lives including school and their jobs, including drive two into bankruptcy at the age of 20. It's not special by any stretch for any hobby.
Always a good plan to assume, since you know what it makes you right? As for the story "muzzling civil servants..." remember Betteridge's law of headlines?
Not sure if it still holds true, but back going 18ish years ago there were two categories of "enterprise" drives you could get. Actual enterprise drives with a very low rate of failure, and "enterprise" drives that were sold on the consumer end through resellers. Getting the first required an account with a company who was a first tier seller.
Disclaimer: I work at Backblaze. Every month we ask a list of about 20 suppliers for their best price on a variety of drives.
Now are said suppliers resellers, or tier suppliers? There are lots of the former, few of the latter. And my second question is, if it's the latter how did you manage to pull that off being that when I was in the industry, they were as tight lipped as clams over anyone getting that data.
Seagate was the top contender with their SCSI 10krpm drives.
That was the only place they were a possible contender, since their PATA drives were complete crap, and I never had much luck later with their SATA drives. Back when I first started in the industry in the late '90's, we would occasionally get boxes of brand new, factory sealed drives from Seagate all DOA. The drives were shipped from Ingram Micro, so the chances it was someone reboxing was pretty low.
What burns my ass over the entire drive market right now is the lack of companies making them. Then again the times were a-changin' when Fujitsu got burned hard along with IBM by known failure rates...which were in the 25% range or more.
For the first 4 years of the Harper regime we had a Minister of Science who was a creationist... That's how "fine" science is in Canada.
So tell me there AC, how has that actually effected scientific industry in Canada. Come now, you can cough up actual and provable points and not something from the CBC or rabble right?
Ah you mean the Liberals were elected to power when I wasn't looking? If you want an example of tyranny of the minority you only need to look there and the amount of special-interest crap that went on during the Chretien days. Especially the massive-super-screwover of Western Canada and the Eastern provinces. The only thing that mattered to them was: Ontario(electorate), and Quebec(electorate). The current government is at least working with the primers of each province, and isn't telling them to go away(Chretien did that multiple times).
Science is just fine in Canada, in reality you're reading a story from the CBC. The equivalent of Pravda, with more spitshine and gloss. They have an axe to grind against any government that isn't the liberal party, and sometimes the NDP.
How does traceroute work? Well that's easy, hamsters run along the tubes and deliver the information. They're very fast hamsters...it's the electric shocks that help.
When I was 16(almost 20 years ago), my policy would have been $6k/year(figure in exchange at the time that's nearly $13k/year USD) and that's *with* the good grades discount offered by many insurance companies. When I was 20, I'd been co-insured on my parents cars for 4 years accident free and I bought my first car and wanted to insurance. It was still over $4k/year, well you can guess what I did...co-insured with my parents. Dropping the premium to $1100/year. Today, my insurance is 888/yr. And to this day I haven't had a speeding ticket, or accident. My driving record has been clean for just shy of 20 years.
What burns my ass, is that this is in Southern Ontario one of the most expensive places in Canada to get insurance. And the "helpful liberal government(that's a party fyi)" has ignored all requests on insurance regulation like other provinces because the same crap happened. Oddly, if I wanted to get insurance in the US, either where I was short-term staying in Indiana, or at my place in Florida, I'd be paying $23/mo. Almost makes me consider buying a US car, slapping US plates on it, and paying for a US policy.
It's funny, but this is the curse of "those who know best" and "you'll like it if we tell you to." See recent examples by Google, with G+, email, and 'tube commenting system. Universally hated by everyone, and they said fuck you./. is doing the same thing. You can bet it'll be shoved down everyone's throat, and then they'll wonder why their viewership is dropping through the floor. Much like how google is wondering why ad revenue is falling through the floor on the 'tube, and their getting investigated for privacy breaches over their G+ "email anyone" crap.
Then feel free to be surprised and astonished. The warranty policy for evga is: If they can replace the card, they will, if they can't, they'll give you a replacement of equal value, in the next generation. And the warranty period doesn't expire within the "lifetime of the device." I just got a 460Ti under warranty replacement from them, it was a 650ti.
Really? Can you explain why the videocard that I bought from evga has a lifetime warranty on it. And funny enough the difference in price at the time was $3 compared to the nearest competitor.
Still think that hooking everything up to the intertubes is a great idea? I can't wait to see what happens with all those home alarms systems that are getting hooked up this way as well.
In other news, building in a flood plain is bad. And forcing rivers into narrow channels like they did in Alberta is bad. Much like what has happened along the Mississippi river. And in other places in the Rockies, they've had record snowfall amounts. 5 meters instead of 2.5.
So if we jump back to when the settlers were freezing to death in the early 1700's along the east coast(really-history is a great thing, especially from the journals of those that died, or just barely survived), that was climate change too right? Especially when compared to...today, where the east coast is lovely and balmy compared to then.
Lies. Obama stands for hope and change! It's unpossible that there is even more spying being done now under his government then there was before and the NSA and other letter agencies are acting outside the bounds of law, constitution, and bill of rights.

You've caught up to Nikola Tesla...

Yeah they got into the "we're gunna screw you" bit in the 90's, even the 80's wasn't nearly so bad in terms of insurance pricing.
Welcome to "dice holdings" where it's no longer news for nerds, but facebook lite, with a tossing of twitter.

Why we have a parallel Catholic school system in Canada.

After all S.Korea uses an activeX plugin for all their security needs...massive single point of failure and all that.
Warranties do not, and should not last forever

Funny that isn't it?
You mean it got frozen in an area, where 100 years ago it was open ocean right?
It may well have been put into effect by Bush, it was Obama who expanded them, and in turn let the letter agencies run wild.
