No. The cost of nuclear would be cheaper, if there was less nimbyism. Less rabid environmentalism, especially from the haydays of the 60's and 70's. The maintence costs are smaller on modern reactors. Decommissioned and rebuilt reactors take a fraction of the time when you're not using 50 year old technology. It does scale, and scales well.

Perhaps you could grow up, and realize that the power generation capabilities are right in front of you. And other parts of the world don't have the fear of the 'nuclear boogyman' that americans, and some europeans do.

Perhaps you should realize that there's nothing wrong with the western lifestyle. And there is no shortage of power, and it's 100% sustainable. Nuclear is a cheap, easy, simple method to provide lots of power. And that giant ball of fire, that's a raging nuclear furnace? Or is it something so insignificant that it has no impact on the world at all? If need be that can be tapped. It would require microwave power transmitters, and beaming power back from space but it would work just fine. At least until we move from fission to fusion.

One only needs to look to the hyper-environmentalist agendas that are running amok in western governments to see that driving civilization into the dirt is just that. You know I'm not sure that's the real problem. See there were already some really kick ass cars made in the last 20 years that got really good mileage. The problem? They were too good, or they were neigh indestructible. A 4 day, but long work week would be a good option for one thing, personally I'm a bigger supporter of that. I already work it in my job.

Anyway, as for cars and all that? My old saturn sw2 gets around 43mpg on the highway, and that's not isolated. Most saturn owners that have the manual, and their cars were made between '94 and 2001 report the same, more so with the original SW series. Some even higher upwards of 52mpg as normal milage on the highway. The lightweight body panels help a lot.

  9. Re:Court not Judge on Canadian Judge Rules Domain Names Are Property · · Score: 1

It is a judgement, but in Canada, new cases and rulings are generally published as a brief. A short condensed version before the judges, justices, or JP's finish writing out their full opinion. Even in the even that a single judge leads, the other 2 will often give their own opinions as to why they're in agreement. Which are stripped out for the short condensed version.

But sometimes what is is, is.

In Canada, in a panel of judges or justices, they all give their views. This looks to be just the brief, which means it'll take upto a month before the full record is posted since it's not a breaking or earth shattering case. "Property" cases in Canada rank low, personal cases rank high, and are published quickly.

Anyway, I recommend reading CanLII's page, since it automatically links decisions to make this decision, and has the reflex record built in.

Honestly I'd say it's more of an issue of GPS makers. As part of the "on call" tote alone guys who goes to rescue people when the provincial police, or RCMP can't get to them ASAP, the bigger problem is just that. Those of us in the area know that if you're going down a cowpath, it's a cowpath. And it's sure not rated for a vehicle in the middle of the winter with 2m of snow on the ground. Summer? Well maybe, but it's probably better for a ATV or something similar.

At least cell phones work if spotty, and CB's work more or less. But if GPS companies simply didn't grab X map, that lists every back path that's marked by surveyors, we'd probably have less of a problem. And I wouldn't have frozen my ass off this past winter, when it was -40C without the windchill, to find someone who got lost on a back path that's marked ATV/Snowmobile only with signs.

Vacuum tubes were replaced by transistors which are smaller, cheaper, much more reliable, much more capable of integration and for most applications have superior performance characteristics. Valves don't give you anything extra.

I don't know about that. I've got a radio that I listen to every day. I listen to this radio because I like how it sounds. It of course only gets AM, SW and LW. This radio just finished passing it's 90th birthday, and still has all of it's original tubes in it. That's 5-10hrs of use every day for the last 90 years. That's pretty good in my book.

    As for valves? Hah right.

Vinyl records. Well, some people still hold on to them. But, CDs are generally sound better, are smaller, more robust, don't wear out as they are played, cheaper due to the small size, hold more audio, don't need to be double sided etc. There are apparently a few cases where vinyl is alleged to be better, and that's probably why they still exist.

CD's sound clearer. But don't sound better. They are easier to play but there's a natural warmth to the sound. Find a good record player, and you'll hear the difference yourself.

Incandescent bulbs haven't gone yet. I, personally avoid them where possible
