That's a wildly stuipid question. It's because they have unfair control of the market. Come on now, I would figure that most people that read slashdot can understand monopoly.
And since they also control and finance their own bands, and control the content, and distribution and sales, and on and on. I'm sure you get the picture, they exist because yes they do control it. And they will continue controling it until the average consumer(not us) realize that this isn't good. Or we can convince the goverment that these guy are out to hurt us.
I have a few friends at are going to UoW right now, I don't live all that far away or anything either. Maybe an hour, and I goto the campus every couple of days to see what new tech they have on site. Alot of my friends were actually looking forward to seeing the course come to be all this year. But such as life sometimes.
Ofcourse if MS doesn't like what UoW wants, there are a host of other universties near by that would be happy to take on the MS bit. We have UoT(University of Toronto), UWO(University of Western Ontario- London), Laurier, several colleges that are applying for a college to university status.
Because you spend enough time away from real life on a computer to develop these "close" relationships and become a "Level 42 Armsman".
Is this really any diffrent then someone spending several hours a day writeing a letter to a penpal or several pen pals, from "back in the old days?" No it's not.
You can say these are "close" relationships, but in fact they are just typical schizoid-type interactions.
You understanding of physcology is sorely lacking, you should study some more. But, people can be close without physical contact. Maybe you should just in general study some more.
These people can be whoever they want online, and you have no REAL idea of who they are, how often they neglect their spouses and/or children due to some silly game.
Right, and can you say the same about people you meet IRL? No you can't can you? People will project what they want you to see. And people in real life though work, or sports, or drinking do exactly the same things. Your point is moot.
Too easy to steal, too easy to get them from a 3d movie. Or from disney land.
Now, polorized contact lenses that are made for each person...would be the way to go. Not wearing them when you go into work would ensure that you can't work.

So your willing to trade a republic with a true consitiution, for a socialist dictatorship? The charter of rights and freedoms can be suspended at will by the goverment. That doesn't count the other things.
I've posted true facts of what is going on in this country before to other people. Canada, for intents and purposes is not better then the states, in true, it's in a pretty bad state.
Do you truely think so? Ever wonder why books are still seized at the border for some sex shop in quebec? Wonder why the CRTC told cable and satillite providers that they must block out american TV and commericals and replace them with canadian content? Does that not also go against the charter of rights and freedoms?
The wool has ever so nicely been pulled over the eyes of canadians. If the goverment disagrees with what your doing your nailed, the newspapers and TV channels are owned by what two? three people? There is no freedom in having all the same things on all the channels.
Now they support the idea to log every place you visit? Sounds like china to me, how long before we get our own "Great Firewall of Canada" that changes the content? Or blocks it because it goes against what the goverment is telling the people.
Think...and you'll see that were already waist deep in shit, and slowly drowning. And unless we find a branch, were all screwed.
Ahh this isn't all. Other things have happened since since and before. But you must remember the canadian mentality right?
"If it doesn't bother me, or it doesn't change the way I live, then I don't need to worry, the goverment will look after me."
Or
"What can we do, it the goverment."
I remember seeing this spot on TV, where cretien was talking about how he loved freedom and other crap, if you had put the Imperial March, while he was talking, he would have been a strikeing shot on the Emperor.
People all in all, do not stand up for themselfs up here what-so-ever.
Yes, they are. A good example is, you work at company a, and they say you can and must only drive car z, otherwise we'll fire you.
What is the diffrence? That he's not breaking the law, however "legal" the DMCA is in the eyes of geeks everywhere.
The DMCA is draconian at the least. Any goverment or law that restricts me from publicly discussing my own property, or the security measures should be illegal. And restricting research to block someones poor attempt at a security scheme is crap. Ala the who SDMI fiasco.
Your welcome to live in a country that dictates what and what you can't see or discuss but I will not be a sheep.
Right, and I have the right to say since you are infringing on my first ammendment right, I have the right to sue for back pay, and re-employment or fair settlement with your company.
You won't see it happen in canada, your more likly to see it happen in the states. Read the laws.
The logic of that is flawed. Was he working for the company when he did so? If not it's none of their business. If they think it is, then they(HP) is violating his 1st Ammendment rights.
How in the 9 hells a company can tell an employee what to do on his own time. I would simply stop working for a company like that, whatever I do on my own time is MINE!
The only thing I can see is he was already doing something at the conferance that tied in with HP or he was doing for HP, and he was going to the civil dis. in which case we get into a possible conflict of intrest.
BigBlockMopar, a Chrysler man I see. Well I might be able to fill this in a bit. Back when I was working in heavy manufactureing, we used alot of liquid bearings and such. Before the pre-start and early startup of the motors, a micro-oil pump would pump some oil into the sleves. I mean, small the pumps we used were itty itty bitty. Probbly 2" long, and 1/4" in diamiter. It would surpise me that they use something similar for a pre-start application.
The other thing is, once you get the drive spinning, you no longer need to use this pump. Since you can build a micro-pump into the base of the spindle to draw the oil up and into the bearing.
Now, the other thing I can see is a "dry start" since the drives are spinning at 5400-10000RPM the ammount of time that the drive takes to bring the pressure up in the pump, and the ammount of cold ware you get from start up, since most people use their computer every day, I can see this being a possible idea.
The last and best idea is called a centrifugal oil reserve. Where the oil is stored in a center chamber and when the drive powers up the oil is almost immediatly sloshed from the center to the outside, resulting in a very low chance of dry starts. It's cheap, inexpensive and very common on side mount high speed, high load bearings in machines.
Very good points, and logicly they should work with no problems.
But you won't see RIAA adaption of little to any of it. Why do you ask? Because of greed, they want to control what you hear, how you hear it, and how much money they can squeeze from you for it.

Ahh yes, but the publisher does get final call on wether the product is fit for mass distrabution. And with Shiny being part of the MS family now...well you should get the idea.
What do you mean catch? We already have similar laws in the draft stage.
If you can find your MP and ask them, they can tell you. Unfortunatly my MP is occasionaly hard to find, usually about the any time something intresting comes along and I might come down and badger him over.
We can only assume they have some cool new features up their sleeves, maybe we'll be seeing Halo with even better graphics, optimized for the new Radeon?
While you are probbly correct, I do hope that MS's quality will stick out with games being released.
While many people jump up and down with the anti-MS bandwagon(especially the I am Bill of Borg, reistance is futile. You will adapt to service us.), they have a very impressive track record of games released for the PC that are very compatible, and very stable.
On that note, I can say we should expect, higher quality graphics, and higher resolutions. But I will say that a 50/50 chance(can't get much better right;) exists we'll see opimizations for the new radeon. But remember who MS's bed partner is...that's right nVidia.
But alot can change in a year. Now take a look at GTA 3, good game, nice port but some very bad issues most noteably sound and that funny no graphics in the menu issue.
Time will tell, and lets hope MS lives upto the quailty of past game productions.
Rusty water? I would be more afraid of the oily rust that's coming though those lines. Most gas stations especailly those with garages oil their compressors first in the morning, and when they shut down to go home at night, it usually means 3-4 drops of oil per 1000L tank, that's to oil the pump, flanges, and so you don't need to oil your tools either if you are so lazy.

Most modern motherboards, ASUS is about all I use, have thermal overload protection built in for CPU, and Powersupply. The new ATX 2.5? or is it 3.0 now, allows for a thermal connector from the Power Supply to the mobo, to auto-shut down the system if it gets too hot. Look at the new ATX spec, and Asus mobo's for more information.
This is done via the bios, so no tools or other memory wasting or CPU hogging tools required.
