sooner than you think, EVERYTHING will have an x86 CPU in it. Why do you think that? All three Next Gen games consoles are PPC (one with extra custom goodness). I can think of two Mobile Phones that use x86(1). Not even the ones with "Intel Inside" use x86, they use ARM.
x86 is not taking over the world.
'd rather have proprietary software in my phone! What do you mean by that? And what does that have to do with the OS used, or the software that runs on top of that?
Samsung had a mobile phone about three years back that could connect to your TV.
HTC have a Windows Vista based table PC/phone. I'm sure that would have a VGA out. Many new laptops come with a a built-in 3G and BlueTooth, add Skype and you have a mobile phone.
I'm not knocking the idea(1), or the researchers who got it working(2), but it is not unique, it is (as the OP posted) the natural next step.
1) I think it is a good one. 2) Noticing the natural next step could be put under common sense. Someone few people have.
90%+ of the time in an office envorment the computer will be idle, waiting on input (user, database or file IO). Sharing a machine in this way can work well (Terminal Service, VMWare etc).
We are moving 60% of our back-end servers to VMWare for the that reason.
But since they could run different OSes Personally I'd put that down to bad journalism (getting "Desktop" mixed up with "OS"), I think they will be running a single OS, and two Terminal Server-style desktops. But I could be wrong.
MS bought VMWares competitor. I'm not sure that classes as "ripping off".
But I don't think this would be Virtual PC based, as the overheads would likely exceed the cost of a second cheep dell. Despite what the story says I would hope that this is a uses a single OS.
Name one *peaceful* video game where he would have the opportunity to create a map? Second Life, The Sims, this new "Home" on the PS3, (to smaller degree) Animal Crossing. None violent games do exist, and often have the "creative" side part on show, rather than tucked away in the "Developers" menu.
What are *we* preparing our children for? Taking a quick glance at the videogames on my desk: FarCry 16+ Flashpoint 15+ HL2 15+ CS 16+
Not children any more.
Now a quick question for you. Post a game design that a 15-18 year old male would want to play, that is peaceful and has a creative side.
So we are getting rid of idiots, and replacing them with people who only say try to shout "first" in every conversation, and answer every question with "In Soviet Russia".
I have as well (a year ago). I was very tempted to reply, asking how they actually got my details.
Have they recently opened, or about to open a new office? I got mine shortly before they opened the London office, apparently they were having problems filling posts due to the very long and round-about process they had in place (involving multiple trips to the US).
Even with a Emu every game would need to be rigorously tested, the emu would be based on what the technical specs say the machine can do. This is likely to be slightly different to what the machine can actually do. So each developer will have found new and interesting ways of breaking the specs to get an extra frame per second, or byte out of the cart.
Lack of feed back. The actual capabilities of the Wiimote seams rather limited. Take Wii Sports games, as it stands they have real problems working out what you do, and what happens on screen. Most of it seams almost completely random, or little better than replace "press A to swing" with "shake the controller to swing".
Homebrew would be a nice feature - I quite like MS XBox approch to homebrew more than the Nintendo (ignore it, but don't overly actively stop it) or the PS3 (too cripped).
Ruddy slow (1second according to a post on the last ePaper story!
Plus that would negate the battery saving advantage of them (they only use power on a refresh).
Bad hardware, take it back.
And you don't expect to with use a decent sized keyboard (like say the HTC Advantage) and/or support external keyboard?

My workout involves 40 minutes of Wii Sports each day, and drinking a can of RedBull.
Would you share a chair with someone holding half a dead donkey in one hand, and a chainsaw in the other?

As I understand it (so incorrectly;) the CDs break the Red Book specs in strange little ways, so some sectors would appear bad if read normally.
DVDs most likely hold the the keys in a bit that home DVD RWs drives can not write to.

No, don't get rid of the +1 channels. I can not get the standard channels, and have to watch +1. :(
Indoor aerials suck.

Somewhere with them in stock? Wow. Where?
The only place I've seen them in stock is Thessaloniki airport.
Thanks, so in this case Apple might have a chance?
thanks.
Can you lose rights to a patent for not protecting it?

(Bye bye Karma)
Needs a second thumb stuck.
Thats it.

You need one that can recycle its previously created items. Pull stuff apart as well as build it.
A while back was an article here " A 3D Printer On Every Desktop?" is how to build your own 3D printer for ~$2.3K.
