You do know that you can add extensions to put a lot of the old behavior back. There are also projects like Cinnamon that gives a close approximation to GNOME2.
The problem is that you guys don' see that technology and culture is moving, maybe you're not going to change but the new people coming up are goign to want somethign that doesn't look like the stuff their parent's used.
Have you ever participated in a Steam sale? It's addicting. They are really cheap. People save up twice a year to go through the Steam sale. People will buy unless they are strict free software gamers. In which case, Steam will have a market for them as well. I can't imagine they wouldn't be inclusive, look at their Green Light section.. games from indie developers everywhere. Some of them even have the source available.
I would say because it still keeps gamers in the Windows eco-system. Once they go somewhere else, that loses you influence points. PC games are making a comeback, the graphics improve way way faster than they do on consoles. You can get cutting edge games way before the consoles do. For first player shooters and people like the guys who made Witcher, the best graphics is killer.
Have you found a way to get stored printing working on printers? Meaning, it stores the job and then you type a password to print. It's so that in a corporate setting you can print sensitive documents when you're in front of the printer.
It will be a bonus for those of us who run Linux desktop, we can definitely get new users. However, it comes at a compromise of software freedom. We need to be will aware that this is against the Free Software if they do not provide soruce to the game engine.. I agree that the content could be left out and only the engine could be open sourced.
Interesting. Thanks for replying. If I had mod points I would have modded you up. I really bought a lot of games through steam. I didn't pirate anything, because 1) I'm not interesting in pirating 2) the interface to steam makes it easy to figure out how good a game is and a lot of the time teh steam sales make it really cheap so it's easy to do impulse purchasing. Thanks to steam, I turned from 1-2 purchases of games to 8 purchases or so.
That's not quite correct. As a whole games are mostly pirated. What steam has done is make prices low enough that we can make instant purchases. If linux becomes a viable platform, more people will move to Linux and certainly indy game publishers will get the benefit since Steam would be the main system on Linux for this if they want games for Linux.
Some have learned that. In India, I understand that the church now allows people to worship Jesus like they would worship the Hindu god. Of course, you might want to think who is actually winning here. If you succeed in making Christianity like Hinduism, what's the difference at that point? You've changed Christianity now and it's not like anything like anywhere else.:-)
That said, there will be a blood bath if it becomes too successful.
This is where investigative journalism comes into play. IT's sad that we don't have any of those, do we? We need the 4th estate to do their jobs too. Yes, I agree that just raising taxes is not enough, we need to be efficient and frugal.
I agree 100%, as an ex-pat. I've never liked Congress I. You know things are bullshit every time they invoke the founding fathers. While the BJP isn't exactly the bastion of goodness either, I trust them more than I would trust Congress I.
Part of it is is the Hindu religion. But mostly it is corruption and a middle class that does not seem to care. The middle class can bring about a lot of change since they are primarily what makes the economy go.
I went to China and it's like wow.. and here we are in the Indian subcontinent has not gone much further. The internet does expose Indians to all kinds of things that they would not normally be exposed to. Gives them all kinds of ideas. Good for them!
What India needs is a robust justice system that can quickly make fair decisions. That is the root cause of everything. You cannot have justice without money and that is the main issue. You can punish corruption without a fair justice system. If we can fix that, in about a generation or so things will be a lot better.
It won't work for very long. The Mahatma Gandhi angle only works for the older folks. The young folks are not going to be that affected by it. They will not be pleased with the govt changing their lifestyle. There will be definitely some issues.. and if they get mad enough they'll vote en masse.
We folks in Oregon, mail our ballots. No lines or anything. My wife and I discuss at hte breakfast table all the bills and people and then figure out the pros and cons and then mail our ballots. Democracy bitches!
I'm not sure I agree. Economic damage I would argue does not lead to the emotional scars that get passed from generation to generation. Muslims are still pissed about the Crusades, Indians are still pissed about the Mongols and so forth. Violence leaves a mark and leads to revenge and so forth. The memory the violence travels from generation to generation.
It's hard to do that when it is an economic attack or possibly a cyber attack as it's not the same thing. It's not like an invading army coming in, raping and pillaging and leaving the place destitute. This is all about banks and what not, things that people don't quite understand.
You're not a Republican. Today's conservatives have a mentality that conservatism cannot fail it can only be failed. If you have enough presence of mind to understand what is going on in how money is being spent then I would simply label you as an objective person.
What's wrong with the U.K laws on copyright infringement that a U.K. citizen needs to be shipped to a foreign country to face this kind of stuff? I don't remember any U.S. citizens getting shipped to some other country for this?
You can right click on the top border of the window to minimize.

Thanks, great analysis.
What would make Steam irrelevant? Just curious?

There is nothing like the zeal of the just converted. Give them about 50 years, and it will wane.

This place is infested by libertarians. I can only shake my head at some of these comments.
Well you would say that you are using the GNOME default web browser. Otherwise you say firefox or whatever. I don't see what is so hard about it.
