People downloading movies are not the studios customer base. These are the people who aren't paying to go and see the movie anyway. Studios lose very little by pursuing downloaders. They would have never got their money anyway.
is it wrong to say that the best Ebook reader is via software on an Itouch/Iphone/IPad?
Very happy with products like Bookshelf for the IPhone. It read literally everything - pdf, lit, pdb, text, word etc etc I can hardly wait until the IPad comes out, as reading books on the larger screen will make it the best option for me.
Personally i am very happy with the EBook reader i got for the ITouch - Bookshelf - plays every single format I can throw at it. If this program works on the new Tablet that will be a major reason to swtich - bigger screen and all that.
You really are joking with your comment, aren't you? It's hard to tell sometimes.
Must try out your theory at my local car dealership. "What! How was I to know you weren't giving this one away for free? There was no price sticker on it or anything!"
Geez, the lengths people will go to to justify their stealing.
Yawn... don't try equating drinking a caffeineated beverage to download material you have no rights to.
These guys know they they are doing the wrong thing - providing a service specificially designed to facilitate the distribution of copyright material.
I ain't getting all high and mighty here - I have downloaded a fair share from PB in the past, and present, but I don't for one minute consider it my right to do so.
There online press conference tries to draw some inference between their activities and totally unrelated topics - trying to justify their illegal actions.
Enjoy the Pirate Bay for what it provides, but don't hold them up as bastions of free speech.
A store employee politely asks to see the receipt for goods in this gentlemen's bag. Normal, clear thinking people just show them the receipt, the employee wishes them a good day and everybody gets back to what they are doing.
But this guy? No! He would rather create a storm in a tea cup out in the parking lot. Here is a guy looking for a fight. Making sure he knows the law backwards and forwards so he can see any penny-arse discrepancy to dispute in his good-mannered, but infuriating way.
He says he only regrets doing what he did because of the reaction of his young relatives in the car. Perhaps if he was thinking clearly, like most people do, he wouldn't have done it to start with?
So, what exactly has he achieved? His father is $300 poorer. His young relatives are upset, probably not really knowing what is going on apart from a large scary man holding the car door open and another large scary man draped over the hood. He would prefer to be difficult, obstructive and just plain annoying rather than do the simple thing of showing his receipt for all of 3 seconds as he leaves the store. The guy at the door is just trying to do his job, loss prevention. Why paint him as the protagonist in this? He is the victim.
People like this joker see every reveal of something about themselves as the thin end of the wedge - the end of civilisation - oh my god, the terrorists have won if I now have to show my drivers licence to of all people... a police officer!
The irony of this that during all this confusion with employees stopping a car, police arriving etc it would have been the perfect opportunity for somebody to actually steal something.
Vulcans aren't robots - they do have emotions. It is just centuries of discipline help them control these emotions. Witness what happens to older Vulcans nearing the end of their life (such as in episodes like TNGs Sarek). They lose discipline and the emotions come flooding out.
No, it's just not you - their tv show was enjoyable (except for all that between movie nonsense which could quite happily be excised IMO), but Rifftrax, with its incredibly scene specific commentary is unlistenable - and don't dare get more than 2 seconds out of sync or the jokes will be even unfunnier.
Perhaps - to me this sort of condensing is the type of service that I mainly use Wikipedia for - learning about something in a quick and timely manner, without having to read 600 back issues of a comic, or seven seasons of a television show.
I am part of a podcast that covers a wide range topics, some of which I have never encountered before. Wikipedia is a great resource for getting a good head start on understanding these topics.
Condensed shows are the same - I wouldn't mind at all if they condensed Lost to 6 minute eps - I think they would work well in that case. But until they offer something a bit more worthy than Starsky and Hutch I will not avail myself of the service.
Of you could actually try and instill some sense of respect in your kids for DVDs. Not only Disney ones, but your entire collection. My kids have been properly shown from the get-go how to treat DVDs so they don't get wrecked.
It amazes me that people expect something for next to nothing if they wreck the one they have. "Sorry, I scratched my new car, can I have a new one at cost?"
He "went philosophical" upon seeing that "bringing balance to the Force" meant that the old order needed to be swept away
It has been argued that Anakin was not the one to bring balance to the force, but in fact it was his son who did.
In any case this whole notion of living for so long then dying so quickly has always for me been about Yoda hanging on until his mission was complete - right the wrongs of the events of Sith and be there to try and complete the training of Luke. He only dies once he states he cannot train him any longer.
Like a partner who dies soon after the death of their partner. They hang on only as long as they are needed.
As the old adage goes. There are a few no-cost options (podshow, archive.org), but these take out of your hands to a certain degree your complete control over your podcast.
A year ago I searched around for cheap hosting - I didn't want to pay a fortune for hosting my files.
For $7-8 per month (US) you can get 20 gig storage, 300 gig per month transfer. Spend a little bit of money and keep "total" control over your podcast. Use FeedBurner to help take the pain out of RSS creation, or even go for the multitude of little aps out there that can generate your feed for you.
If your podcast ever gets even slightly popular the free options become incredibly unattractive, and you will be forced to move to something better. Best to start with the best option first.
Well, that doesn't make sense at all. Are you saying they should hand you a free DVD player each time you purchase a DVD movie? Give you a free car when you attain your licence?
Well yeah, anybody CAN make their own commentary tracks. As the original article said, sites like Sharecrow are doing a great job keeping track of the growing alternate commentary community out there.
We already have big groups like Renegade Commentaries, MMM Commentaries, DVD Podblast, Sonic Cinema et al all doing their own thing, with styles ranging from the serious (MMM Commentaries) to the totally irreverant (DVD Podblast).
Exactly... it always makes me laugh when I listen to a commentary and a hesitant, shy director will say something like "uh, don't listen to this if this is the first time you have watched the film, cause I am going to ruin it for you".
Exactly right, or as the show described it
"he is an amalgam of the darker sides of your nature, somewhere between your 12th and final incarnation"

What, you never felt the thrill of winning a race? Never had the rush as you deliver that last blow to the nasty end of level baddie?
Never breathed a sigh of relief as you finally got through that really tough level after trying for hours upon hours?
To me that's immersion.
Immersion is you being the character. Getting "into" the game.
What I want to know - are scientists getting paid to do this sort of stuff? Have they run out of diseases to investigate, plagues to cure?
You really are joking with your comment, aren't you? It's hard to tell sometimes.

I agree with you, they are facilitating the free exchange of data.
A shame the data they are exchanging isn't free.
Create someting yourself, and make it available for free. That is your choice.
Others have made the choice to make money out of their content.
It isn't up to you to decide whether they made the correct decision or not.
Go and steal a car then. See how much your freedom is worth then.

There are already many "self-styled film aficionados" doing commentary tracks - MMM Commentaries, Renegade Commentary, Podblast etc.

Education is the best tool.

When I was bored on IRC sometimes I used to visit a random, well populated channel I would simply type
"Press ALT-F4 now to gain instant access to my ratio free, unlimited download porn fserve"
And then sit back and watch the amount of nicks reduce by less than half.
Bravo, this is the first post in this entire mess I have read that makes me think "just go and put their names down dammit!". My kids will love it.
Are we all that old and cynical that we just don't put our names down and say "shit, why not?"
