My brother-in-law ending up marrying a very cute girl. He met her and started chasing AFTER she was already engaged to someone else. Now granted he wasn't a computer geek.
This isn't the norm, but I've seen it more than once. Men really can marry above their level if they give it a little effort. In fact, now that I think about it, every Slashdotter married... had to marry above their level (self included).
Although a pretty good study of the Linux code can be made since itis readily available, they obviously didn't find ALL the bugs. Lumping all commercial code into the statement of: "Commercial software typically has 20 to 30 bugs for every 1,000 linesof code, according to Carnegie Mellon University's CyLab SustainableComputing Consortium." casts a very wide net.
The key word is 'typically'. Obviously Microsoft's code falls well short of the commercial bug average because of their more stringent and advanced build methods and the personnel they hire. (Outlook/Internet Explorer and Ballmer excepted). They can say that the Linux bug rate is low when compared to the overall average. Okay...fine. To then imply that the Linux bug rate is lower than Microsoft's is nothing short of disingenuous. It might be more accurate to imply that the study of the Linux code lends credence to modular code and programming methods, proper source code control, and that many eyes searching the code are better than few.
We were told the same things by the RedHat reps. That is why I spit in their general direction and am pushing our company to flip to SuSE. A reasonalble license and reasonable fees.
I couldn't agree with your comment more. In the electronics industry there are many foreigners that can write better emails than the natives. On the flip side, there are foreigners that are learning english and grammar via emails. This is sad since they have such poor examples.
A woman walking in from of a camera does not mean a single stem cell helped her. Wait for journal publication, review, and commentary from experts before going around talking about how great this is.
Hey! I saw this same woman on Benny Hinn last night. Which was it.. science or snake oil?
I can't take issue with how good the dpkg system is compared to rpm, but surely most anything would be better than rpm.
I am tired of having to rebuild rpm databases with the rpm --rebuilddb because of a confused rpm database. When we had OpsWare give our company a presentation of how they manage servers with their software, my question about how to deal with corrupted rpm databases indicate that it's a common problem with no easy remedy. It requires manual intervention in an otherwise nicely automated management process.
I use and promote linux. I don't particularly enjoy rpm files when compared to my pkg experience on Solaris.
We played many variations of it.
One variation was that you had to turn your flag around. Or your 1 and 2's.
Another was you set up your side and then flip the board so the other guy has to play your setup. Only rules was that you couldn't surround the flag with bombs. Flag had to be on back row. One space had to be open up front. It's a great game. Can be demoralizing.
I've never had any issues with NewEgg. Good prices & shipping is very reasonable. My other fav is mwave.com. Great customer service.
Ones I won't buy from: the old fly-by-night camera style shops mostly in New York. Hate to admit a bias (but only from past experience), but it a business is in New York City, I don't buy from them. Especially anything to do with electronics.
I would only hire a hacker that was smart and had been properly punished for crimes committed. Also, his rap sheet better not contain more crimes than just the hacking. I can give a little slack to a curious genius while none for semi-intelligent career criminal.
I just wish people with that much determination would concentrate on fixing the bugs, instead of exploiting them... so much wasted talent.
Agreed.
These guys are just performing a vital Quality Assurance function that any normal company has. When is the last time you received an email from your local QA Dept that also included a fix? Only messages I have ever seen are like... "This part fails every test we throw at it. It is crap." Then marketing reduces the specs and sells it anyway. Thank heavens that in Open Source there is no marketing (yet). Sales and Marketing are just spammers with real jobs.
One cannot make a blanket statement saying that RAID 0 is stupid. The RAID level (0,1,3,5,etc)
used is not stupid if it applies to that particular use. We use 4 250Gig drives hooked together via
Raid 0 in order to get a large, cheap, sorta fast 1 Terabyte interim storage space for images from
image chips we make. We have two identical PCs
configured this way in order to mirror the data
thru a private 1Gbit ethernet between the two. This is a poor man's large storage space for
cheap. Are there better setups? Undoubtedly. Cheaper? Very few.
You should use the appropriate RAID level based on the data you intend to house.

Gentlemen of the Penguin Group,
After reading today about the katie.com disparity between the book
and the internet domain, it appears that Penguin needs to admit an error
and correct course. As an individual involved in the internet with my
own "untrademarked" domains, I would be highly offended if the same
were to happen to me.
I expect that the internet community will rise to assist Katie Jones
with financial obligations encountered in dealing with this situation.
I for one would also help her if the opportunity arises. Losing
goodwill with the internet community isn't something Penquin
should desire. Please re-evaluate this.
Dude. That's killer. I was eating M&Ms and just about blew one out my nose. Wish I had mod points. People here are forgetting that Cheney's daughter is a lesbian.
This patent may even put the local grocery at risk of lawsuit. After all, they supply several items on a list (shelf) that the user (shopper) chooses from. Some of the items (Raid) are bug related.
The US patent office is a sham with regard to software patents. What a crock!
I'm not ashamed to be an American, but I am surely ashamed that the RIAA, MPAA, Patent Office, SCO, etc are located in America. Guess every country has to have their corporate thugs and those that foster them. Sheesh...
One hundred million pages. Assuming he has a good laser printer with infinite toner, let's say he can print 60 ppm or one page per second. It would take one hundred million seconds to print the data, which is 1157 days, or a little over 3 years.
He would have a bank (or beowulf cluster:) ) of printers via CUPS, and do duplex as well. The print option is still a contender!
The giveaway was the "200% effective" comment and the "abiout" spelling glitch.

FYI... Benny Hinn is a religious charlatan.
I use and promote linux. I don't particularly enjoy rpm files when compared to my pkg experience on Solaris.
Or even perhaps turn you into Doc Oc? (The Doc Oc effects in Spiderman II were amazing).
We played many variations of it.

This technology probably works. It just won't be deployed. And it won't take long for someone to circumvent it. People are very creative.

The French have others fight for them all the time. French Foreign Legion. This is both a funny and serious comment. Please take it as such.

I thought so, you little capitalists.
