I don't use them. My wife does. So I bought her a nice PalmPilot. She loves it and prints out our schedule for me. For work... I just use the pen and scratch paper method. I know. I'm a slacker.
Free to you yanks... 100 a year to us Brits, Gov'ner
Yes, but America paid quite a bit in lives lost a while back to escape crown control. It is incredible that the British continue to put up with the radio/television tax. One question... do crystal radio sets fall under this tax?
I realize you are joking, and I do find the humour in it. But nearly every Linux fan I know is pro-Apple G5/OSX. They lust after it and are trying to figure out how to afford one. Linux doesn't do multimedia well, and Windows doesn't do that much better. You still have to add/hack to get things to work smoothly. Multimedia will be more of a factor in the migration of Windows/Linux users to Apple than many figure. Jobs seems to be hatching a plan.
While Microsoft is busy playing monopoly and fending off lawsuits, people are getting fed up and bailing (even though it may cost them more money). Paying more and getting less aggrevation is a good tradeoff.
I'm not backing up the story, but carriers may only spread the disease. i.e. Typhoid Mary.
It may take longer for carriers to die, or they may be completely immune.
If a monkey came to work and demonstrated minimal abilities to type and move a mouse, our company slap a Software Engineer title on them.
My co-worker and I have come up with the idea of using "RE" in our title... signifying "Real Engineer".
I am so tired of hearing the word, "alleged", that I may perform some alleged act on the next person to use it in my presence. That and the phrase "if you will." If I will what? geez...
NEC Multisync that my dad had on his 286-10Mhz circa 1985. I'm too cheap to throw things away, and this dumb thing refuses to die. It does 640x480 barely, but I use it in text mode on my Linux server. This monitor is older than half the folks on Slashdot!
You know your monitor is old if it has a vertical hold adjustment knob.
We've had a high failure rate on Sun Ultra10 boxes. Drives, CPUs, memory, and motherboards. Fluctuations in power seem to take out Ultra10 machines while a Sparc20 or Ultra2 will absorb the hit fine.
The old Sparc 10 and 20's had insufficient power and air flow. We saw mostly drive and CPU failures in those. Higher rates of failure in boxes stuffed with memory/cards/2 drives. The problems were mostly heat related.
The machines with the fewest failures for us are the Ultra2, Ultra60, and E450 boxes. The E4500 servers have been stable once the CPU ecache fiasco was taken care of. However, we still see memory modules failures at the rate of about one every 2 years. The Ultra2 is slow by today's standard, but it was and continues to be bullet-proof. If the hardware shows anything, Sun was at its peak when it built the Ultra2.
We have around 400 Sun workstations/servers deployed for this department (non IS). And like everyone else, price/performance has forced us away from Sun. Linux appears to meet our increasing data crunching needs. The OpenMosix cluster has entered the building...
Berke Breathed has retired Steve Dallas and other characters permanently. Bloom County was in constant decline after the point that Steve Dallas ceased to be a major character. I still have my "America is ill, but so is Bill - Bill the Cat for President" poster from that era when Bloom County peaked (or jumped the shark as some say).
Outland was completely lame, so I don't expect good things from the new strip. Perhaps he should develop a complete new set of characters, and let the old ones rest in peace.
I, being and infidel, read an Al-Jazeera article. Now where are my 72 virgins.... or am I mis-understanding Islam somehow? It was a martyr action for my mind...
Go ahead and mark me flame-bait... but it's supposed to be a joke...
You can UPS some "critical" circuits in your own
house for a much longer period of time by using a
Whole House UPS.
It will also keep your boat battery charged up for your next fishing trip. Note however, that this does not negate the need for some sort of a power filter on your computer. This would allow your gas appliances to work and your microwave.
Now I'm not a Y2K-store-Xyears-of-food-live-in-a-cave fruitcake. I just don't want to be the grasshopper, and I want to provide for my family during outages that seem more common than they should. An extended winter power-outage at -25deg F. adjusted my perspective. All you need is shelter/water/heat/food. Maybe a little love too...
But if enough people buy OSX Macs and then start helping out on the OpenOffice 2.0 project, then it could come out first on the Mac. Two years is a lifetime in this industry. And I expect SCO's life to be up right around then...
...he can simply wave his hip at the sensor with his wallet...
I see men walking up to the RFID scanner (being too
lazy to remove their wallet) and start girating
their rump in front of the scanner. Hence... these
things will become known as "butt scanners".
Judge, I'd like to take the computer, vacuum, and my virginity with me...

I suspect that the fish Gully is packing around is a Red Herring.
Wang is up!

When Reagan said, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!", I thought he was talking about the Berlin wall.

Not that I have anything against primates.
"Probably my greatest weakness, if I were to get a job here, would be that svelte good-looking secretary just outside your office."
It's better to just fib and play the game.

All right boys, cuff him and toss him in the van. Let's go.

Thanks to you, I got coffee all over my keyboard via my nose. Very funny.
But then I realized that I alone have 7 old mice in a box...

Dang... wish I had mod points. I laughed my butt off...

Sorry for creating that picture for you.
