Why can't the MECOs and the black holes just set aside their differences and peacefully coexist? I'm in no way a physicist but by the looks of things something like this is happening.
When all the matter gets pulled together and it forms a MECO it gets ejected again at near the speed of light so there's no build up of matter beyond a certain point.
Because the matter doesn't build up there won't be enough matter for a black hole to form, so you can't have MECOs and Black holes together.
Just wait until they try to stop people humming songs on the bus, they may even start a pay for thought service where money is deducted from you bank every time you get an song stuck in you head. It all looks like copyright infringement to me.
Generally, I believe the market is going to sort this problem out. And what pray tell is the market going to use to sort the problem out? Unless there's some kind of mirical in fusion power development the shit's really going to hit the fan which ever way you look at it.

You would think that if God answered your prayers then a bit of statistical analysis should turn something up, but there's no evidence that God changes anything if anything there's evidence to the contrary. Every time they've looked at the supernatural in a scientific way nothing has been turned up, even though Ghosts, Magic and all that would be great things to have in this world. All were left with is the creation of the universe, the place the pope seems to think that God exists (he seems to realise that heaven, hell and praying are a load of rubbish), and trying to cling on to this last hope for a God he tells people not to study it. If science does turn up what created the universe I very much doubt that it would be anything that anyone would relate to a God, but still people will say that there's a God.
I think the people that call for science and religion to be separate know this too. If I believed in a God then I would want science and religion to be deeply entwined so that I could see who my God was, infact many religious scientists believe that science is the study of God. I think the kind of God that science turns up is nothing like any God I've ever heard of.
I'll quite happly wath the low budget films from the 70s so why are modern movie budgets so high? Maybe the movie industry should sort out their cost problems first if the're having problems making a profit.

That depends upon what you mean by 'understanding', if you look at multi-objecting evolutionary algorythms then the algotythm has some understanding of each objective relitive to the outcome.
Extend that geometrically and you have an understanding of the system as a whole.
Just because a genetic algorythm has a limited scope doesn't mean that it isn't doing a similar thing to human scientists with a greater scope.
BTW, Maths used to be called an art a few hundred years ago because it's a creative science.
It's not true trial and error because we don't go and build ALL the possible houses. We figure out which one should work, then build it. If it works, great! If not, back to the drawing board.

Basically they take the best results and use then to make better results, just like building houses.
It look like the author of the artical should look at getting his friends to use PGP and then filter out all messages that aren't signed with known signitures.
Unless your friends are terrorists that's going to be easier said than done.
And why would you think that US companies aren't going to spy on the US Government. If I wanted to spy on the US I would setup a company in the US, so I expect China would do the same thing.
