I was a C/S major then I used my F1 Visa (Which I presume most of the foreign students here will be on) to job hunt before I graduated. The advice I received at this time was to hunt a company that is not so big or well known! What was meant by this was don't take a number at this stage, keep in mind that you only have a year to become so important/needed that this company is going to go through the hassle to keep you. Once you get in on your F1 for that year, prove yourself and the company will want to keep you.
Please read this: If you are on an F1 visa you do not pay FICA tax! Once you get your H1-B or whatever you pay everything, but this could save you several thousand over that first year. (I happened to have a really cool HR staff that did not mind filing the IRS forms, but remember what I said before about trying to fit in that first year, i.e. try not piss to many people off!
Yes I did foolishly watch this MTV excuse for a documentary. You would think after all those pointless nights spent with my girlfriend watching "Real World" I would know better!
Will someone please tell me why, rather than spend time with guys who are really doing something with their skills i.e. 10pht, we are subjected to 30 minutes of rambling from some drug dealer with delusions of grandeur....and a police radio? I suddenly started to get real world flashbacks, annoying kid... acting stupid on MTV.....
I will get off my soap box now.
Thanks 10pht for showing teenage America that there is something constructive out here.
By the way, can you really bring down the web with "a couple of packets"?
He would have not been able to contribute to society anyway......

And Yes I know he was not born like that, but I think you get my point!
I graduated 2 years ago with a CIS degree and walked into the head IT position (WAY over my head and still am;) at a private company. The experience I have gained handling people/budgets/owners is worth more than any prefix. I am not knocking MS and pHD's because I fully intend to continue my edu "some day". What I am getting @ is it will always be the bean counters that rule business, you need to learn what you will eventually have to face.
The transaltion is boring: it says that Stockholms University has recognized outstanding people, one of them is Linus Torvald who developed Linux, and lives in Santa Clara Calif, 29 years old. He has been honored the Honor Doctors Degree By Stockolmas Univ. Thats all, then it talks about other Swedes who also earned this Honor Doctorsdegree.
I could not agree more, that was painful to watch! I had friends who have never seen the original vowing never to watch it!
I wonder how many .co.uk hits /. will loose ;)

Does anyone know if they are planning a color Palm V? I was thinking about investing in a V but I would wait if there was a color one coming out soon.
Wait until it is up, renew it under your name with your 100 bucks then post it on e-bay and buy a beach house!

Is /. getting so big that the authors no longer speak? Or are we witnessing the first episode in a long ugly "POSTING WAR" ;)
Do you think I could get the suits/bean counters to spring for a $4ooo monitor?.....I wonder?

I have been reading /. for a while and that is the most enlightened comment I have read yet.
