    Boston in the 80's was pretty decent. DC was not bad. I hear Chicago is pretty good. SW FL sucks, with just buses. We really need an above ground rail system. I'd be inclined to say Monorail. Mind you, my only experience with Monorail is Disney and Las Vegas. It seemed like a clean and quiet technology. The big problem would be making it hurricane proof.

    The whole reason both companies do not wish to open up is that it is the software that mostly differentiates the different card lines. When card A is merely Card B at a different clock speed. And Card C is a slower clock and fewer pipelines, who is going to buy card A when they could use card C and get virtually the same performance at half the cost. The community has already come up with overclocking utils. Think of what they could do with full specs?

    Doubt me? Look at the default Linksys router Firmware and DD_WRT.

    Did you catch the fact that the guy was in Europe and had to cobble his own TV listings? For anyone in the US watching regular cable, it is a non-issue.

    I built my sister a MythTV box several years ago. The only issue back then was an audio sync issue. The solution was to disable the crappy onboard audio and get a real sound card. It has only gotten easier since then.

    You have to expect that IBM is salivating at the chance for Microsoft to misstep here. Revenge has to play a part, both for OS/2 and SCO. The billions that Microsoft has in the bank has to be a tempting target. IBM is like a wolf watching a fat calf stepping away from the herd. They could kill the calf now, but they want more. If the calf steps away even more, they can eat the kill.

    What I imagine will happen though is that groups like OIN will quietly approach MS and there will be a cross licensing deal and MS will back away from all the patent nonsense.

    If a search engine does not have a facility in Utah, then it is probably unenforceable. If Google, or another search engine wants to make a statement, they could announce publicly that do to a restraining legal situation, they will not move into Utah. It would send a loud message to any other states that might consider passing such a law.

    Even if they do, a number of items in the U.S. Constitution presumably invalidate it. IANAL, but others have commented on the 1st Admendment and the commerce clause. I am not familiar with the Utah Constituition, but would not be surprised if it has clauses that would override this law.

    It was the rental that was stripped. And it was a family feud. And the police are not investigating the matter bacuase it is a family feud. One of the comments above has a link to a local paper that has more detail.

    We are not getting the whole story here. Just a guess, but I would say that the Owner posted on Craigslist. The furniture in the place was the sister's. The sister took revenge and stole the fixtures and doors and stuff. The police know or suspect all this and do not want get involved, especially as those that came in and took the couch and related items really were taking them on good faith.

    I would suggest to anyone in the future, After evicting a tenant, and failure to claim property, either auction/yard sale the stuff, or set asid e a specific time to be there when you let people haul stuff away.

    Except that most EVDO plans are for the wireles card for your Notebook which is, tada, a computer. The whole point of the plan is so that you can access the internet from locations that do not generally have internet access. Of course, many use it as a highspeed internet, particularly when you have it advertised as Highspeed unlimited internet access. For Verizon to turn around and pull this crap, that's false and deceptive advertising.

    So if I had such a connection, then I would dowload all sorts of stuff. And it's not downloading through a cellphone, but through a cellular modem card. Maybe if you read the article, or just had a clue, you would know this.

    Or maybe it is more about useful hours of daylight after work. I don't care if it is dark when i getup as I will turn on the same amount of lights regardless. My bathroom gets no useful daylight so I need it on. My closet is dark regardless of the time of day. Regardless of when the sunsets, I get off work at 5, in part because I need to be at work for or clients. It takes the governmetn to give me an extra hour of daylight after work when it is useable.

    Personally, I'd be happiest of they never changed the clocks.

    That's also what Sony Vaio says. This whole thing sounds like some support droid saying something that has no legal basis. I know the article says PR rep, but I highly doubt it. Most likely they are dealing with the Support droid's manager. Best option would be to write a letter detailing the case, and Address it to:
    Office of the President
    Hewlett-Packard Company
    3000 Hanover Street
    Palo Alto, CA 94304-1185 USA

    You will get some action and the matter will not happen again for wuite awhile. I use to work Tech support for a major OEM Computer corp, and what happens on the front lines is different than what upper management realizes.

    Could it be that CO2 has to be at a certain minimal level before it has an observable effect on a global scale? Currently CO2 is at a higher level than at any time we can find a record. That includes ice core samples.

    Maybe CO2 levels were higher when there was no ice? Or maybe they were higher when there was no life? It seems very likely that higher CO2 levels will be bad for humans.

    Actually, Linux does both. It depends on how you configure it. The notable reason for putting the system clock on local time is that certain other OS's only operate on local time, and many people were fed up with constantly shifting the time.

    MetroPCS now has TravelTalk. It is fairly decent Nationwide Digital Coverage. Unless you are in Eastern Oregon, Kentucky, W Virginia, and Northern Maine.

    The problem at least in Florida is not the unions or public schools, but the lazy parents who feel lil' Johnny doesn't have to obey the rules. Here in Florida, Teachers are not legally allowed to strike. It is not the unions that are at fault when they are toothless, it is shackling the teachers with useless bureaucracy and parents not backing up the school. The private and charter schools are no better. The Federal guidelines like "No Child Left Behind" suck. We would be better off if we did leave behind the stupid kids. Give them the option of either earning good grades, or sent off to some hard labor camp. (By hard labor, I mean something like working on a farm doing manual labor like weeding.) After a year of that, let them come back to school if they wish and try again. Also, there need to be real discipline in the schools. Used to be, if you misbehaved, you had to stay after school. Now, that is wrong as it would inconvenience parents to have to pick up lil' Johnny, because everyone is bussed. There is a lot wrong, but you are picking the wrong things.

    Trust me, I know what I am talking about. I was a substitute teacher, my mother and sister are public teachers. I am currently an adjunct professor at a private community college.

    Sounds like they may be creating Lonsdaleite or something similar. It is essentially a diamond with a hexagonal crystal structure instead of a square structure. Not quite as hard but close.

    Uh, make that $10 difference between the cheapest dialup and the cheapest DSL. My DSL is $25 and I could get a version slower for $20. The cheapest I have seen dialup is $10. And AOL and Earthlink are about $20. While even $10 can me a lot on a fixed income, most likely most can swing it that would want a computer.
