Some things just don't have comparable Windows or *nix functionality. This is why it's better to emulate Pick(uses DataBASIC) in *nix than to build a new multivalue db from scratch. The emulation will never be replaced in the near future.
I'm not accusing you, just pointing out that the problem mentioned here is being left behind monetarily, and not evolving will do that in this industry.
But that doesn't mean that you won't get left behind monetarily, at least until there is no one left to support it, then they'll hire you back after you've retired for big bucks like defense contractors have done for people with arcane language knowledge that is not taught in schools anymore.
It was more of an example of vastly different languages than anything, but, for the record, there are companies that have applications that are actively supported and developed for in DataBASIC
If the senior programmer knows the language or shows an aptitude for picking it up quick(which many quality programmers can do), then I think it's a slap in the face, particularly if the rookie has no realworld experience and no portfolio.
Otherwise, if the senior programmer knows BASIC with no ability to learn C# and the rookie knows C# and is hired for C#, I don't see the problem.
I recall the time they found those fossilized mosquitoes and before long they
were cloning DNA
Now I'm being chased by some irate velociraptors
Well believe me...This has been one lousy day
Jurassic Park is frightening in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone shut the fence off in the rain
I admit it's kind of eerie
But this proves my chaos theory
And I don't think I'll be coming back again
Oh no
I cannot approve of this attraction
'Cause getting disemboweled always makes me kind of mad
A huge Tyrannosaurus ate our lawyer
Well I suppose that proves...they're really not all bad
Jurassic Park is frightening in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
Someone let T. Rex out of his pen
I'm afraid those things will harm me
'Cause they sure don't act like Barney
And they think that I'm they're dinner not their friend
Oh no
Jurassic Park is frightening in the dark
All the dinosaurs are running wild
What a crummy weekend this has been
Well this sure ain't no E-ticket
Think I'll tell 'em where to stick it
'Cause I'm never coming back this way again
Oh no...Oh no
I wouldn't mind doing this if the company would provide a virtual machine image which I can operate within so I do not need to pollute my actual PC with all the security software shiat and encrypted drives I need that the company uses. Slap the VM on an external/removable like I do at work already for test environments and you're all set.
I feel for you. Your post looks genuine and I agree with you. This is slashdot, though, of course. If it's not BSD you're doing it wrong, and you're gay to boot.
Now that Google has dropped h.264 support from Chrome, the new reality is that the <video> tag in HTML5 is dead, and pretty much all desktop video will be served in Flash players.
Except that Chrome has rather small share of the browser market.
or better yet move people into a 4/10 schedule. When I program and get into a groove I'm very productive until I'm taken out of that groove. A longer work day would extend that groove, but compensate with a 4/10 so you do not become overworked
Wireless=increased latency. There already is built in latency with flatscreens and if you use a wireless mouse or keyboard that's more latency. Who would want this for a gaming system? Latency is detrimental to gaming performance.
Or you could grow a brain and check the sources yourself and determine if the facts are valid. You know, like humans should do for everything they read for factual information. Anyone posting on Slashdot should already be intelligent enough to already be doing this by default.
Check out the EVE Dev Blogs for extremely detailed information on users, blades, racks, nodes, etc. They have some excellent data on how they balance users on a blade and how the action happening within drastically affects each blade.
Lots of really interesting in depth information about how the code works, the tools they use for finding problems within the code, how their servers are configured, etc. Great read from a technical point of view
When you optimize to GPUs, you have to optimize to all GPUs. I realize there are common instruction sets but the main selling point of Android is its versatility. If I start coding for only Snapdragon processors with PowerVR GPUs because it has a better UX, then it sort of destroys any benefit I get from Android and I might as well code for iOS because I know what that hardware will always be. A lot of the benefits of Android applications being Java byte code completely independent of the hardware are overlooked in this proposition.
You mean it's like a real, honest to goodness, computer operating system? Oh no! The horror! Guess you should stop making software for Windows, Linux, and OSX then, since the hardware can provided different capabilities for systems using the same operating system!

bbbbbbbut fragmentation!!!
I should have. My fault. Thought it was implied, but I guess that the plebes might not have listened to this particular classic.

I dunno, ask Julian Assange.
East Durndle would also be valid

And they keep those cash reserves for dividends, acquisitions, and keeping their credit rating high.
I read it for the goatse
I was actually thinking that if he was responsible for all the stupid, non-intuitive changes to Server 2008, good riddance.
You have the bone structure of an economic GENIUS!

Kind of like counting cards for single deck blackjack. It's illegal to be too smart.
That would be just like those damn Neutrals
