Home was not obviously successful to anyone, it was actually kind of a flop, but Sony has stuck with it and they continue to make it better. Now, it's a fairly good matchmaker and it does provide something extra that is significant and free. I'm still waiting for homes where you display your trophies on the wall, though. That said, it does make good money for Sony given the numbers
Software firewalls are not the solution, and neither are public addresses for all. The ability to segment out your network, separate traffic, limiting broadcast domains, etc are GOOD things. Sure, there is more configuration involved, but logical separation of networks provides way more benefits than just saying "my crappy software firewall will fix it". I also wonder what public IPs to the whole network will do to things like Active Directory and ISA Server
When will people learn not to give out your private information to people that have total control over your earning power? It doesn't even matter if you do anything illegal, just something that can be construed as bad for the company image. Have a photo on Facebook of you drinking MGD at a party while you work for A-B? Sorry dude, you added your boss as your friend, and he just fired you.
If this ISP hosted the data, sure, that has always been the case, but if this ISP is saying that any data that passes over their wires can get prioritization by paying more, fuck you buddy
Slashdot uses doubleclick.net, NoScript blocks that inherently. Thus, no one is tracking my habits without having to modify anything and I don't have to worry about completely disabling cookies so I don't need to re-login to every website I peruse.
Unfortunately, it was not optional at this UPS facility(Cerritos, CA) at the time I applied. I turned down the offer(I wouldn't even get the a first paycheck, as that first paycheck covers initiation fees) and applied at Budweiser instead, and made 50% more money without any union worries. Also got all the free beer I wanted, Thanksgiving turkey, Christmas ham, and free tickets to ever A-B entertainment facility nationwide(like Busch Gardens, Seaworld, etc). I've come to the conclusion that if you want good benefits, you can find them without giving up a significant chunk of your money and your potential for advancement on merit if you look hard enough.
Because the wrong people invariably end up with the job security and ridiculous pension. There is no real method in typical US union contracts for weeding out the bad, since they're seniority based rather than performance based when it comes to job security.
True. You're required to join Teamsters at the local UPS, and after your dues, you make less than minimum wage. Doesn't that defeat the purpose of unions?
This is very similar to music, video games, movies, entrepreneurship, etc. Publishers won't die in any of those(or venture capitalists for entrepreneurship) because people still need money up front to do these things. Some big dogs/right-place-right-timers will manage to find a way out of this(like Valve to an extent, eventhough they still have publishing deals), but when doing this is your full time job, you need income to cover your costs until it's published and successful.
Their products are still for sale new at places like Amazon, so I am not sure. If they are phasing it out, it is very sad and I hope that another device pops in to its place. The concept of recording all of your configured streams when you sync up your device so you can listen to them offline is very nice, as well as the fast forward/skip features that come along with it. As far as licensing, I don't know what constraints Pandora is under, but Slacker does allow you to record and skip.
What I'd really like is a device that can sync up with any stream you give it and record it for the future(and do so automagically like Slacker). SomaFM has some excellent stations I wish I could record
Their new pricepoint is a bit high, but when Woot! has them on sale they go for about half that, which is a reasonable price for what you are getting. As you stated, the service blows Pandora out of the water, and the device just adds to it.
Because Pandora needs a better revenue stream in order to properly serve the people they want to serve?
And Pandora doesn't allow you to record multiple streams in advance and skip around between streams and songs with fastforward willynilly. Slacker does that.
Also don't need to remain connected over a shitty cell network, instead I have a dozen hours of streams already recorded and I can listen to them whenever I want without draining the my phone battery during constant 3g use(which is just short of GPS as far as phones and battery life performance goes).
If you use your phone to do everything, that's cool, but I use my PSP for gaming, my phone for phoning, and my Slacker and Sansa Fuze for music listening because they're better at doing the task at hand and have better battery life under those conditions.
Money is tight for companies like Pandora, which is why they should go in to the hardware business like Slacker, or at least partner with Slacker. Slacker blows the competition away because of the availability of portable hardware specifically designed for it. Pity Woot! hasn't had a Slacker for sale in quite a long time, though.
At least 939 had legs. I just got out from under a 754 system that was essentially obsolete as a socket in 6 months. Now with AM3 I've got a ton of scalability that should last for another few years a lot better than the 754 a64's did. Running 3 cores now an can easily drop in a phenom 2 when I'm ready for more. Mobo has usb3/sata3(6gb) as well as multiple 16x pcie2.0 slots, for 80$. Scalability is the best thing about AMDs offerings currently
Battlefield has the Middle Eastern Coalition and maps based on battles in Iraq. Never heard any complaint about that...

Dogs and cats living together.. mass hysteria!

And that doesn't mention the XSS protection

If that isn't a self-fulfilling prophecy I'm not sure what is.

Not quite a cartel or collusion, but you can be sure those two terms would be thrown up as those employers are crucified in the media.
Well, one does if they serve po-ta-toes
The future of diplomacy.
I already have a region free ps1/ps2/dvd player. It's called a launch PS2
Not quite, you just turn the fan down from high to low. Sincerely, Southern California

Slacker offers a free service and you can skip with it, but you are time limited(something like 5 times in an hour).

You have the right to bear ARMS, don't let any authoritarian inner-city councilman tell you otherwise
