A simple change in OS structure could fix a lot of this. Most server and OS's and the newest round of Desktop OS's have user level rights. i.e. if you are working at company X and have to use a word processor and email why do you need to have system level access? This is a big reason why we do not have as may Desktop system viruses in linux. Most of MS new products have this same feature, but unlike MS users most linux users are told not to run as root(or admin) and most users are to used to being able to install any software they find on the net. Other then desktop look and feel all addtional software should be installed by the PC admin people. Lock the users down, if they can justify a buisness need let then go through proper channels. I know you will have a lot of pissed off users, but its a buisness cost issue. i.e. my company cut free coffie, yes people where pissed but its better then firing one person so everyone can have coffie for free. Especialy if the sucker who gets canned does not drink coffie. This plan works in my company. Only engineers get root access or admin in XP, everyone esle thin-client.
I would argue that you already have a great deal of virus protection. It just lack of knowledge that is the problem. If you do not know the author of a email just delete it. If you do not know the md5sum of the binnary you just downloaded from company x's web site, request it. If your are to lazy to do these simple things they you deserve the virus. This seems like many of the laws in the USA, I it illegal to kill am man, but we now need a specific law to tell us that if that man is of diffrent ethnic orgin it is still illegal? WTF?
How do you feel about the built in nature of tracking every thing you do. It will no longer be a question of did you write this. It will be on Jan 13 2003 1200 hrs you wrote MS sucks to the file letter_to_jane, see its all right here signed with the digital key of your computer. The really fucked part is they dont have to get a warrent and come to your house, they have a built in back door. I am thinking it may be time to go back pen/papper.
Actully its about money! All that warning means is that the vedor decided not to pay the extorsion fee to run their software in the Windows neighborhood(or OS to make it clear to you). Get a clue. The code could be great, but unless MS gives its high priced blessing you get the warning.

Hmmm, because there is a double standard? If a person floods your email server with the intent of DOSing it, they go to jail! Corp. America on the other hand can flood your box with junk, bringing your server to stand still and it just business! Not that I favor regulation just thinking out loud.
I have enought government in my life, for now I will just live with the spam. I people dont like the junk mail they get maybe they should refuse to give it to every website they visit. I dont visit a lot of sites because I just dont need any more junk mail, and they think they need my email. My wife has had a email address for 2yrs now and has never recieved e-mail she did not ask for. The reason she does not sign up for ever thing on the internet.
I dont like spam, but if it is the government telling what can and can not be sent or spam.....
I love mine, also the SMC 2642W cf card does not block either anything up top. Also if you are in the valley computer micro has these and the D-link cf 801.11 cards. Frys only has one card that blocks every thing up top.
Yea well I just downloaded Mandrake 8.2 and installed it, to put it nice it sucked. I loved Mandrake 7.2 and thought they would kick Redhats ass, but in the end there lack of complete QA put me back to Redhat. If I want to have a distro that is a lot of work I will use Debian, at least they are honest about the current status there apts. Since I like a distro that works time after time, I have to stick with redhat. Thank you Mandrake you help renew my memory about why I love redhat so much.
I joined the club, thinking I could help out, and all I could give at that moment was $60, in a few weeks I could have done more but you asked for help asap. And this is the thanks I get! I noticed right away when you posted that Staroffice was only for silver and above and was very made, then a hour latter it was changed I figured you would work it out and come back with a solution, well you have had time yet Mandrake club users have no answer. Not a word about this issue anywhere on you site that I can find, now luck you, you get smashed on/.! Well I was going to give more money in a few weeks, and since it did not matter what level of membership I had it would have been ok. I downloaded the new 8,2 it sucked, your treating you members like shit, and your pulling a microsoft and being silent about the whole mess.
You need to fix this issue, confront the members, let them know what is going on. Give them a chance to upgrade. Today!
If not good luck guys, it will be bad to see another Linux distro go down in flames but that's what a free market economy is all about.
What IBM loves this. Sell the iron make a good profit, then sell the service which they take 10% off the top and walk away. Just like windows, they just take there % of the top, and laugh all the way to the bank while the others do the work. And with IBM support contract easly reach 1M or more, so you do the math.
I would have to say redhat is what you make it. You can strip out the packages you dont want and
install the ones you do? Hell if you want you can
just load the kernel, a shell, and a few other basic packages and make it what you want. When you get right down to it Redhat is just the same
as debian, slack, suse, or what ever you use.
I have left redhat a dozen times or more for a cool new feature in another distro, but I always come back home. It works for me, if it does not work for you maybe you are the problem. Lack of knowledge on you side is hard for Redhat to work around. In short FU!
Flame bait? WTF? Now I know the world is in trouble! I might give you off topic, but
flame bait? Great now even on/. I am labeled trouble just for having a difference of opinion!
Well take this as education the last post was maybe off topic this post is purely flame bait. Now,
maybe you will no the difference.

Of course, but if you turn it off by accident just call and we will be glade to reenable the feature for you remotely.
Shit who cares about MS, Sun, or the MPAA. Is the dam FBI,CIA, and OHS that should have you worried.

Think my boss would mind all had written code?

Sounds like a MS campaign! Maybe that is the trick, MS needs bandwidth caps to slow the growth of Linux.
>It's amazing how Microsoft repeatedly persues
>actions that will eventually come back biting them
>in the ass.
I keep hearing this, but did anyone look at their PL for the year?
Yea cause Sony is really hurting for money.

/. should really build in a spell check button.
This would be a really good attack against open source, since open source software users would tend to take more band width then you genral user.
This would be a big help to selling those boxed linux disto's though.
How much band width do all those graphics on AOL take? This could be the death of that junky AOL service.
Just a bunch of random thoughts.

The shell is one the cd that came with it.

I second that, I would have to go find a new distro. Always did like mandrake.
FP?
