It's more than under standable that a new game that is devoloped out of half live is going to be a first person multy player game. It is rather easy to modify the main look and feal of most first person games. For example back whene I was in high school I modified the original doom so that it could be used as a musiem in with people could look at the Glories of Rome. On the other hand to take a simple first person shooter and add complex AI's for strat combat including construction, while posible, not extreamly feasable. To bild a game like Warcaft 3, a rather large amount of people are gathered together, on top of that they get rather nice saleries, as far as I can tell Natural Selection has no inc. backing it so the people making it are probably not geting paid for their lovely work.

  13. I looked into it and compared it with a Dreamcast on Another $99 Web Terminal · · Score: 3, Interesting

About one month ago I looked into buying my grandmother an internet device. I debated the Folowing a 486 win QNX runing on it(fast enough for web browsing a geting e-mail), an old pentium win linux on it(tried and true works with out any problems), an old pentium win win95 on it (would work ok as long as she didn't add any new programs but would be going against my beter jugment), a dreamcast (they cost 70$ hear in canada and they come with a key board), and one of theis babies.

I ended up being realy torn betwean the dreamcast and the I-paq. The dreamcast had the added bonus of being able to play games in 3d, plus to give it java compatabilty it would only cost 20$ us. I would then be able to us it a VNC terminal (thanks to vnc's jave aplet viewer). On the other hand the I-paq was a stand alone device and that would apeal to her since it's more like an other apliance (microwave, stove, blender, fax, tv).

  14. Why bother buying it. on SonicBlue Rio Digital Audio Receiver · · Score: 2, Interesting

Why would a person realy want to bother buying the Rio Reciever when you can put togeter an mp3 playing computer for less than a 100$. Meanwile this unit will at least set you back 127.95$ and that is if you buy it at buy.com as far as I can tell the unit should cost 300.00 dollars in most cases.

If a person is looking for a cheap stationary media player there really is no reason to go all out and get this thing. The way I see it you have two options one put together a high end 486or beter with a network card that way you can stream all the mp3's you want from your other computers be they mac's win boxes or 'nixers. Then conect the box to your hi-fi. For 40 dollars you can even throw in the option for a remote controller. The other option that I came up with is, if your on a buget and you want somthing that plays cds,mp3s and what the hell even mpg video go buy your self a Dreamcast they go for as litle as 70 bucks. With that you can do what ever you want even play doom.
