  1. Is there any land outside of the unliveable polar regions that has never, at any point in history, been captured in war? That's just how it works: You fight, you win, you claim land. People complains, but in about two centuries everyone forgets about the capture and accepts that the new map is the way it should be, and a lot of people forget it was ever any other way.

  2. And if you go back further, we should all be entitled to live in Africa.

    I don't think that the residence of a person's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandfather* should be a factor in deciding how to treat them today. For the better or the worse.

    *It should be a lot more grates, but I got bored of typing.

    The working class want to enjoy a comfortably, materialistic lifestyle on their limited resources, and so demand low-cost manufactured goods. The ruling class seeks to increase their wealth by selling to the working class at a margin. Both of these goals are served by importing from China.

    I think it's an interesting concept and technology. I got a little mining setup, just a cheap one, as a toy. Interesting, but a basic understanding of economics is enough to see why it's inherently a very unstable currency at any time scale.

    I learned two things from my miner: That they can run really fast when you immerse them in silicone oil, and that only a fool invests in bitcoin mining at anything less than mass-scale.

    People are idiot's. Tesla's mistake was in failing to take this into account in their promotion. They made a very sophisticated driver assist, but if you call it 'autopilot' then you're going to get some idiot who watches a movie while driving because he believes the driver assist to be far more capable than it actually is.

    Aircraft can do fully automated landings now. It's quite commonplace even on passenger airliners. Pilots are still better at handling difficult conditions like crosswinds, but if visibility is too poor for a pilot to land they just flip the switch for automatic landing.

    It wasn't a DMCA complaint, it was a trademark complaint, and the NRA didn't file it with the hosting company. They filed it with the upstream provider, so they had no means of taking down an individual site. They just cut off their customer quickly out of fear of liability, and the customer happened to be a hosting provider.

    It's possible suicide will drop very slightly. Guns are a quick, reliable, accessible and painless method of suicide - perfect for impulse-suicides. Without guns people would need to spend a bit more time preparing a suitable means of death, which might be time to reconsider.

    It's called the Dickey Amendment, first passed in 1997 and renewed since. The CDC isn't actually banned from researching gun violence - it only prohibits the CDC from performing research which could be used to 'advance or promote' gun control. It's also been extended now to cover the entire department of H&HS, not just the CDC. They are still allowed to perform research on gun violence, but only if they can agree prior to the research that it will reach a conclusion that supports more guns.

    It's not just about monetizing Skype. It's about promoting other products with exclusive features. Notice this new feature is Windows 10 only. Why? There's no technical reason it can't be done on Windows 7 or 8. They just want to give people another reason to move to 10.

    Unless you go down the complete sci-fi/fantasy route, all guns are going to bear some similarity based on their expected function. They all have a handle, a trigger, a barrel, a hole at the business end, and some sort of aiming aid on top.

    Be a little fair to him: Yes, he married a six year old, but it was a pragmatic political marriage - a very common practice at the time, nothing unusual. And sex at nine? Yes, that's an outrage to us - but you are judging him by modern standards. Mohammed's culture was clear that a menstruation means a girl is now legally and socially a women. Nine might be young enough to raise some eyebrows at the time, but it was by no means a big scandal or even unheard of. He did wait three years until she was legally ready.

    A more serious issue is that this has made it very difficult to de-normalise sex with or marriage to young girls in Islamic cultures. How can such a tradition be condemned when the Prophet himself practised it?

    Be somewhat fair to them. Scum they may be, but they have never been violent scum. Not once, and it must take a lot of self-control to remain calm in the face of the reactions they incite.

    Boris has a natural charisma. Everyone in the country loves him. Most of the people can't actually state a single policy of his other than the bicycles, but they love him anyway.

    The vacuum cleaner regulation applied only to domestic vacuum cleaners, and the power limit was very generous. It was to combat the issue of manufacturers building deliberately inefficient appliances to inflate their power figures - because customers are idiots, and will buy a 2500W vacuum cleaner because it has a really big number.

    How can this be interpreted as anything other than an abortion? Even if not via drugs, at the very least it's an attempted abortion via supernatural curse.
