I could not agree with you more. There are just too many people in between you and your data who could either accidentally or deliberately prevent you accessing it.
It gives game developers an *opportunity* to port games to Linux, but nothing more than that. And with a market share of 1-2% that's going to be a hard sell. The Linux market is going to have to prove itself to be worth the added development costs, otherwise games companies won't invest.
I basically agree with you, but over the last few years I have found myself in an irritating situation. Most of my stupid friends are now FB devotees, and I find that unless I have some FB presence I'm dropping off the social scene:(. What used to be organised by phone or email is almost always done on FB now. So, I've decided to use it at arm's length and hope it goes away some day.
Sheesh! You can't just come out and say it like that! You need to carefully construct a fear campaign that they are harbouring WMDs/Terrorists. Then we can go in full force and as a bonus we get to rape the planet for any resources too!
Because unless you're a sociopath, you need to have some degree of concern what people think of you. Can you honestly say that you behave the same way with your wife/girlfriend/boyfriend as you do with your boss or your mum or your grandma? When you're alone do you do things you wouldn't do in public? If not, then why not? Because you care what other people think about you even if you don't want to admit it.
First of all, I believe Macy's on this. Why would you try to save a few bucks by using recycled documents? They're not a pet store. Secondly, confetti is usually pretty small, so who was walking around piecing tiny bits of paper together in the middle of the parade? I guess it's possible but the whole thing just smells like your standard internet myth.
A low resistance *can* kill you which is why if you are wet or sweaty your body's resistance goes down (potentially to 1% of its dry state) and the same voltage which previously wouldn't have hurt you could now give you a shock. The higher the voltage the easier it is for it to overcome resistance resulting in a higher current which is the bit which can hurt you. The resistance of skin varies widely from person to person and devices like this are extremely dangerous because you don't know who is going to come into contact with it and you don't know under what conditions they will contact it. If a big guy with leathery skin grabs it with both hands he'll probably be ok, but if someone fell or leant against it it could easily send current through the heart making it much more lethal.
Yes, yes it is. It may be the current which kills you, but it is the voltage which drives the current (maybe you should read your helpful link a bit more). Depending on its deployment, 7,000 volts could give you a gentle tickle or completely vaporize you. My point was that these systems may be designed to be non-lethal but they can be rigged easily and should not be used as human deterrents.
7000 volts is shitloads enough to kill you hundreds of times over if it is deployed in the right way. Personally I would be extremely worried to live in a country where this kind of 'deterrent' is allowed to be implemented by everyday businesses. Even if it is designed to be non-lethal a very simple modification will fix that very quickly. How well do American's trust their friendly neighbourhood recycler? The guy in the article sounds a psycho.
Just because something has always been the case some doesn't mean it's ok to keep doing it. We would still be stoning people to death for having mildew in their house. Society changes and so should its expectations.
Also it's raining and I have a rash that won't go away and my knee is sore and I wish people would stop looking at me funny and I don't like the colour of my underpants and the bus driver was mean to me this morning and I think the moon is affecting my sleep...
I like how the summary includes an explanation of what torsion means. That was easily the most complex part of this article (piece of writing) so it was nice to have it put in layman's' terms.
A lot of people are just greedy. If they see a chance to make a buck they don't really stop to question if they really do deserve it. Lawyers (yes, I'm generalising) use this tendency to flood the courts with frivolous cases which often have merit under a strict definition of the law but have nothing to do with the original intention of the law.
The whole TOS crap needs to change. If Zappos had forced people through the TOS page not one single extra person would have read it. It's just an arse covering law with no benefit to customers or vendors.
If half the population doesn't agree with a law then the law is a sham.
That is such a dumb statement. I would wager (based on no more evidence than your own wager was based) that half the population wouldn't pay taxes if it was left up to them. Does that mean the entire tax system is a sham?
Who the fuck marked this insightful? Virtual machines? Seriously?
Shhh!

Because finding porn on the internet is soooo difficult.
Sure we do. Rope!
Sure. We should just follow one of the many demonstrably successful socialist models.

Seriously. Most anti-virus software is worse than getting a virus.
I think it's unlikely. Mercury's surface temperatures fluctuate wildly. 400+ Celsius during the day and as low as -200 celsius at night.

Sure, and the so called "government" also puts mind control drugs into the water supply.

Who would've thought that a lawyer would write such a long winded response?

Evading tax is every Greeks' right and what has made Greece the economic powerhouse it is today.
