    I'm nitpicker enough that I have to toss in this correction "Army Air Corps" (although it is pronounced "core"). In 1941 its was changed to "the Army Air Forces" and generally referred to as "the Air Force," though it would not become the "US Air Force" and an independent branch until 1947.

    1. Most people find user control too hard.
    2. Service providers discovered there was money to be had in taking the control the users didn't want.

    Either it's just you or they changed it, because it comes up with over 2,000 comments for me.

    Because custom ROMs serve the interests of the people selling the phones, allowing them to issue the phone with undeletable adware or bloatware that they're paid to ensure is on every phone (and which is also undeletable). The fact that they do not serve the interests of the people using the phones is of no concern to them.

    Somehow, I remember the Israelis in 1948 having to create their state by themselves.

  21. I don't know anyone who believes that. What people believe is it is the most widespread language because it is the international language and non-native speakers often learn it as a second language (Chinese has more speakers, but they're almost all Chinese natives).

  22. Speaking of creepy voice tech... I recently called a doctorâ(TM)s office - a specialist Iâ(TM)d just recently seen for the first time - to reschedule an appointment. A woman answered. Every time Iâ(TM)d make a statement (e.g. âoeI need to reschedule an appointmentâ) thereâ(TM)s be a pause of a couple seconds, then Iâ(TM)d get a response that was accurate but seemed stilted and a little off. The reschedule was successful, but the whole thing just came across as weird.

    It sure seemed to me like I was interacting with a bot, but I havenâ(TM)t heard about this tech actually being deployed before.

    Or maybe the receptionist was stoned out of her gourd.
