Dammit Malda, there has got to be a better way. I can just imagine 50% of the user base firing up junkbuster just about now, but calling it dishonest. WTF??
Last time I checked, this isn't ZDNet. Don't join the crowd!!!
The subscription thing, that just might be a good idea.
Forget the dog kennel.. just deploy a legion of snakes in the conduit. Make sure they're poisonous snakes BTW. Either that, or rabid weasels or ferrets.
No no no.. I don't use M$lop office at all, and I am well aware of the new underlying functionality of OO6.0. My point is that screenshots generally show off the new sexy features of an application. These screenshots look like they could have come straight from SO5.2 two years ago.
Harddrives are cheap too. Just set up a good 256 MB of swap space, it's not like you have an 800 MB drive in your workstation with 1.5 GB of RAM. (Do you?)
You can fill all of the toilets in your house with concrete too! It keeps neighbors from stealing/using them, and is a great idea for a means of revenge.
Some of you rednecks out there might have an empty toilet sitting in the front yard: fill it with concrete and prevent the city cleanup crews from removing it!
But it looks like all the smart ones are leaving first.

I thought that CmdrTaco reads the Filthy Critic.. he could at least pick up a few gems in there. He sounds like the local sour movie critic you expect in a city newspaper.
A good example from a reader of said site: "I saw this movie on an airplane, and despite the obvious danger, I almost walked out."
As for the significant omissions and serious misrepresentations, that was mainly the result of the article being shortened by myself. I left out some of their accusations of calling me a 'hacker' and having it compared to such evils as child pornography. Either way, all the omissions and misreprentations are expanded upon by my comments in this article.
Also, your letter is a carbon copy of what has been given to everyone else. They completely dismiss the allegations, even though I have presented pages and pages of evidence of censorship and other wrongdoing by my university.
Take it at face value. I'm going to vanish and continue my education now.. hopefully uninterupted by the corrupt administration of my school.
You are wrong on a couple things, and you outrightly LIE on another.
First off, I acknowledge causing much conflict, but was rarely a hothead. Furthermore, there is plenty of evidence on SOS showing that I was concerned with censorship back in October 2000 on SOS alone; let alone the numerous exaples that could be dug up elsewhere.
When I was confronted with the email (which was not anonymous BTW), the police blamed my wife. I never once blamed her at all; it then became perfectly clear that the email did not originate from me AT ALL.
In conclusion, no lies, no juvenile activities, purely censorship of a site on account of my actions; warranted or not, the bottom line is still the same.
and what the hell would you know about any of this, SOS had been around much longer than you have.
1: not slashcode, or any other GPL'd software obviously.
2: 2000+ hours.. yep, it's true. I've averaged close to full time some weeks, and exceeded others for well over a year now.
I did not record my hours, since I was not expecting pay.. so 2000 is a bit of a generalization. Although it should be accurate. And yes, there were a couple other things besides direct work on SOS that factor into all of that. Either way you look at it, it's not a false claim to say that I've put in 2000+ hours into the university over the past 12 - 18 months.
3: The administration is not going to say much else other than the fact that I haven't given the entire story in excruciating detail. For this slashdot article, I did my best to make it breif and not go into too much detail.. especially personal things. In retrospect I should have submitted the entire thing as the largest slashdot article ever.. it would easily weigh in at around 80k or more.
The trolls never created any problems.. people coming from Geekizoid were good for some laughs. Reposting things about the moon being a liberal myth and such.. just plain funny.
The problems came from crapflooders at the university, not from Geekizoid at all. So having trolls come to SOS was really a non-issue. Also, nothing was revised or deleted on Geekizoid to my knowledge. The story in question was posted during the time before the whole site was lost to engaging.net.. that's where your censorship came from.
I never asked for inappropriate and/or offensive content be posted. And my intentions were not to get a rise out of the administration. Seeing a few trolls on SOS did a great job of bringing out the lurkers.
I admit that it is obviously one-sided, but I'll answer some of your questions:
Pure politics are continual actions taken by student government to keep harrassing me due to content posted on the site. This also includes interoffice politics, rumors and bullshit stories that perpetuate themselves in every way. Pure politics, I refer to a series of loosely related events that kept mounting against me concerning SOS.
The specific abuse was mild crapflooding, though I had incidents of fairly harsh insults and slander occuring on the site. Also, a number of flamewars put many people on edge.
As for fair warning, I was given none either time the site was censored. It reaction was given straight from the Dean's office based on information recieved concerning slander and threats.. and the server was either unplugged or removed from the office.
No rules of any kind were laid down when I started the project. I did this as something completely new, and no precident existed for anything of this sort.
The site's content consisted mainly of articles and comments related to student government, university, utah, and misc. issues.
That was status current of one day before the site went back up after the first censoring in march. It is currently censored again, after being up from April 2 to May 24
I switched to mechanical engineering.

My wife and I play freeciv on out network at home on weekends when we're not bogged down with homework.
It's even better, because I'll run a server here at my place, and friends of ours can join in across the internet. It's cross-platform to.

Sorry, but those open office screenshots look identical to Star Office 5.2 .. the only difference we can see is the title bar.
Isn't there anything wild and new that would convince me to try out the beta and dump Star Office 5.2??
When will I be able to enjoy being infected by outlook viruses under FreeBSD? People will think I'm weird if I don't send along personal documents.

Yeah, like Jeff Lebowski. Still have piss on your rug?
The big numbers are harmless, just like slashdot's new comment numbering system.
You encourage people to go see a movie, and then your sig tells us to fight the MPAA.. make up your mind!
Aw shit, there goes the planet!
(Statue of petrified Queen Amidala appears, burried to the neck in the sand.)
You blew it up! DAMN YOU!!! DAMN YOU ALL TO HELL!!!
What kind of damn dirty apes take away hidden [nonexistant] sids from helpless trolls and crapflooders?
I'd much rather have a good notebook system. A large screen is important for getting real work done. PDA's are nothing but a leash.

Damn you!! You ruined it!! Damn you all to hell!!
Katz you damn dirty ape!

They still will not admit to censoring the site.
