They provide Wikipedia versions that you can use with their e-Reader. I bought one because I can use it on my Pocket PC, and it's just awesome having the Wikipedia available instantly, anytime. It's the fucking Hitchhiker's Guide version 0.1, gyat damn. =)
The entire Mexican economy depends on Applets. It's the principal way to pay your taxes. Every bank has a standard applet to report your earnings and pay your taxes.
Yes, it's the only way.
I hear Korea is pretty much stuck on IE + Java too.
Hell, Metallica has gone on record saying that they used to play covers when they were first starting out, and not only that, James Hetfield mentioned that they'd say "Oh yeah, that's our song" when people asked if they had made all those "excellent" songs.
The actions of the "Music Industry"(which at this point produces only commodities) is like a fascinating train wreck.
This cannot last, I hope new artists are smart enough to avoid record labels.
Dedicated only to poll people who have had a faulty 360, who have seen the 3 rings.
Some of them are actually on their second or third system.
It's the sort of thing that stops me from buying a 360. Since I'm in Mexico, the repair process would be especially annoying.
Say what you want about the PS3, but it seems like a much more solid piece of hardware. (Insert "Yeah it doesn't fail because no one ever turns it on") joke or something.
To be fair, I had a much, much worse experience in Spain than in the USA regarding immigration practices.
The lines on the spanish Barajas airport were just as long, and the police at the airport stopped me twice because I had a beard. Maybe I looked muslim but I'm fucking mexican, I even spoke their language.
They strip searched me, and made me (and my family who were standing with me) almost miss my flight, after asking dumb questions like "Why do you carry this pouch inside of your shirt?". It was one of those pouches to keep your passport and money safe.
It didn't do them any good - they still had a successful terror attack a few months later. I think it was ETA.
Are you kidding? Dell's growth has been stagnant compared to HP's growth in the past couple of quarters. It's like everyone forgot about Fiorina and everyone loves HP now. At least clients do.
That's pretty backwards, friend. That means that the only ones who will be able to apply for patents will be the rich corporations themselves, not poor inventors.
Ugh, I agree with you. I'm a relatively experienced PC user, but with Windows Media Player 11, I couldn't figure out where the hell I was supposed to open files from.
Turns out it was a right click move somewhere near the top.
Wow, at least half the replies are trying to be funny. What happened to Slashdot, when did it become a standup comedian-wannabe forum?
It's cool to have some fun, but when everyone is cracking lame jokes about any theme, it just becomes tiring. In most threads, I have to skip about 5 to 10 "Funny" comments to find an "Insightful" or "Interesting". When did everyone become a comedian?
Anyone who has had a Wii since launch, like I have, is now probably feeling that there's a bit of a "drought" of new games. The most noteworthy release has been "Cooking Mama", which no manly man would admit to owning.
But now it's up to third parties to exploit the console. I personally feel very bored of Zelda and Mario, and I really hope that third parties see the huge potential in this thing and adjust their platform objectives accordingly.
Meaning - bring on the "adult" games, people! It's ridiculous that so far, only EA has released a decent port of an old game (The Godfather).
With development costs at almost one tenth of what it takes to build a PS3 game, and with a huge installed base already(with no end in sight), it's a no-brainer to release as many games as possible on this console.
Archos' players are usually big and clunky when compared to the iPod. I still have an ARchos Jukebox 20gig (when ipods had something like 5gigs, I don't remember the exact number), and even tho it had a lot of cool features the iPod didn't (thanks to Rockbox), it was UGLY.
I've bought a bunch of British comedy DVDs, if it counts. Monty Python and Coupling and the original Office sitcom, thanks to the BBC.
Yeah, TomeRaider costs money, which already marks it as a loss against the "thrifty" slashdot crowd ;) , but I think it's worth it.

Did you just imply that Half Life and stuff like Counterstrike are good "mental stimulation"?
Because, goddammit, I think g0at53xfuck3r would like a word with you.
How the hell do you reconcile FOLK music with DEATH METAL? /head explosion
Some people...

For the money it costs to set up a PC with Windows Vista and a DirectX 10 capable card, yes, I'd feel sorry too.
This post was too long can someone please condense it for me to read
On the other hand, besides a few scholarships, Carlos Slim does not give nearly as much money as Bill Gates does for charity.
There's a thread with over 400 comments here :

You can't go to the "source" anyway, because artists, once they sign up with the record labels, do not have control over their own songs.
That's how screwed up the system is.
I have not the slightest idea what the fuck you just wrote.
You forgot The Black Crusaders...

Maybe dumb, but there's no "File > Open" menu.
I made my choice a long time ago, and it is to not watch any fucking TV anymore.

Wow, the Blaring trucks with amplifiers are still used here in Mexico.

I don't know if you noticed but the Xbox 360 has been out for well over a year now, and the PS3 and Wii are 6 months into their lifespan.
I propose you stop calling them "Next Gen".

Are you fucking kidding me? Did 10 or so years of online multiplayer gaming on the PC just disappear while I was away?
I was hoping Slashdot wouldn't participate this year, but ... Ugh.
