I picked up the latest greatest Tron disks not long ago because I did like the movie and wanted a nice copy. My experience at the time was people just weren't going to get the jokes unless you were a tech or programmer. When they said "Bring up the Logic Probe!" I laughed my ass off because I had been using one that day.
The other six people in the audience made no sound.
Do NOT follow the federal guidelines for getting tested for colon cancer. They recommend you start at 50. Well, I'm 47 and apparently I've had it for a couple of years, and in a couple of weeks I'll be having my colon removed and little bag stuck to my side for the rest of my life.
The good news I'll still have a life.
And counter-intuitive as it may seem, consider getting a female doctor. Smaller fingers.:-)
I really don't understand the repeated efforts here to brand Apple as the devil over "FairPlay". I'm no fan of DRM, and don't use it because it's entirely unnecessary. I've bought about 6 songs and one video off of iTunes in the last 3 years. I just don't get the freedom-threatening nature of ripping my own CDs.
I have the same background, but let's face it, it's just a different system and there's a lot in there. It's frustrating because you know all this stuff and think you should be able to dive right in, but it takes a good deal of spelunking to actually get it together.
I'm going through the same thing. I've been using my Macs to do video editing and as a user I'm fine, but getting down to the system can be a little confusing. Just roll up your sleeves and let go of your preconceived notions of how things should be. Eventually you'll get it. I've actually had more luck with the Java examples than some of the other system stuff, but mostly because I'm not that familiar with Apache.
I can understand not knowing a given politicians' views on any particular subject, but it seems to me it'd be a little difficult to not get a general idea of what's up if you read or see any news at all.
Even if you just take the most generalized claptrap about each party you'd have *some* idea of the difference.
Good thing Gartner is responsible for such great machines that they can... oh wait, they don't make anything but over-priced analysis.
I've had some decently-made PCs out of the 10 or 12 I've owned, but nothing like the quality of my Macs. I switched for home use a couple of years ago with a PowerBook. I added a MacMini last spring and a quad MacPro recently, and they are absolutely some of the nicest machines I've ever seen since I started as a tech in '79.
Apple would be completely stupid to give up that control and differentiation from everyone else.
I think that's a bit harsh. And since I know both my neighbors and they're both developers who I'd trust with my network, and they're both over 200' away, I could give a flying rat's ass anyway. And if Wall Street gave f**** about network security Microsoft would be trading at $1/share.
Take a look at the pic of "the average guy" railing at the courthouse in 2000. They're all GOP operatives who swapped their suits for blue-collar costumes. They're power-mad liars, and we live in a banana republic. George will nuke Iran based on God's will, i.e. the voices in his head. God help us all.
I never could figure out why they make kids get up at the crack of dawn to go to school. You don't have to be a genius to realize people learn better when they're awake.
It's like some kind of holdover from farm days or something.
Y'know, with all the crap Apple takes here about fanbois and shit you go ahead and tell me what they do compared to what Microsoft does isn't light years better for everyone in the community.
Thanks for the definitive info. In fact I already have two Blu-Ray players so I am sort of familiar wiith the hardware and all, and like, what HD is.
I was just wondering if someone knew of their future plans for Blu-Ray, since all I saw on the site was HD-DVD.
Which, to answer the dipshit who posted above, is why I hadn't already called.
Gee, wonder why I don't bother posting here much anymore...
Anyone know if they're going to rent Blu-Ray?

And you bloody well know it.
The guy's been living on his past work for like 20 years now.
He should just pull the gerbils out of his ass and go away.
Too bad Stallman can't come up with anything cool himself.
He and the FSF are irrelevant and useless at this point.
Ok kids, here's a Public Service Announcement:
:-)

Not to let Apple off the hook, but it seems to me this could be handled better.

... and program your games for the love of it.

THEN sellout for millions.
This IS bad. I think the Italians have some rules about what can legally be referred to as "prosciutto".

Strangely enough, in all the time I've been here that WAS my first "first post"!
Sheesh, you call those choices? Give the people what they really want!

Yeah, but I was thinking Merv Griffin, not Michael.
bada-boom

I bought my first IBM BIOS reference in '81. I know the history.
If it wasn't for Apple you'd still be stuck with CGA graphics.
Y'know, with all the crap Apple takes here about fanbois and shit you go ahead and tell me what they do compared to what Microsoft does isn't light years better for everyone in the community.
And yeah, my MacPro order is in already.
I'm still more interested in the orginals!
That's exactly what I'm doing. Let's face it, I'm old. I can pick up most of the music I ever really loved on CD before they get whacked by DRM.
The rest I'll just have to live with.
I buy the CDs and rip them.
No restrictions, no problem.
By the way, if you want to understand whey they like him check out "Mr. Hulot's Holiday" by Jacques Tati, 1953.
