Where did I say the majority of employees do this type of thing? Oh that's right, I didn't. Anyway, even if 78% of kidnappings are done by family members, guess where the Police start looking? So if you are a business owner, which you are obviously not, you want to protect what feeds you. And since the majority of this happens from within the organization, that just means better security and policies where people have the most access. Of course nothing is foolproof, but I bet if you had people in your house while you were gone your valuables would end up locked in a safe and not unprotected. That would be foolish.
What if your bank didn't take precautions? I bet you would be pretty upset if you found out that someone in the bank was stealing your money. Or maybe someone at your doctors office posts your medical records on the internet?
You could simply have a router/firewall or something else monitor the traffic and send a message to you if any traffic comes from the honeypot/net. There should really be no traffic going to/coming from this section of the network so it would be easy to trigger.
Waif69, you just got within range of the answer to this post: "What does M$ ODF Converter Mean?"
While I agree with you that M$ Office is nice (probably the best thing to come out of Redmond), they are starting to feel threatened. Some of the reasons why are because we have states (Mass., not sure of any other states) that are adopting ODF and the excellent OpenOffice.org-2.0 release.
This new release of OO.org has is great and has allowed me to migrate to a FreeBSD only environment. OO.org version 1 sucked and there was no real great alternative suite other than that (KOffice was alright, but doesn't run on Windows). No M$ is starting to get some serious competition in this market. This is a cashcow for them and they certainly do not want to lose marketshare so they are extending an olive branch here to make it seem like they are playing nice, IMHO.
It wasn't a troll/flamebait but I should have known better than to post a conservative view on a one sided communist site. I love how a factual event from history gets modded down as flamebait. Seriously.
It is definitely easier to spot a Japanese person than someone with my background (German). Don't fool yourselves into thinking this is the only reason the Japanese were jailed. They did bomb Pearl Harbor, our HOME! Where did the Europeans bomb us on homeland? I know the terrorists hit us in NYC, but I can't recall where the Europeans did in WWII. Go figure we're trying to stop money from going to terrorists.
How exactly is it racist to profile people with names like this? I don't see a George, Dick or Harry listed in there and I want to make sure that my family is safe from the enemy. It isn't racism, paranoid maybe, cautious definitely, but NOT racism. I guess my spellchecker is racist too since it pointed out all of those names. Damn you spellchecker!!!
I have an idea. How about if we just bring all our troops back and disband our military. If we just love everyone who could hate/attack us? Seriously.
Back in WWII the Japanese-American citizens were jailed because of the possibility that they were a spy. During times of war drastic measures are taken to ensure victory and minimize risk. It would be stupid and dangerous to leave yourself open to an attack but unfortunately the bleeding heart liberals wouldn't allow us to truly protect ourselves like back in WWII so we are only blocking their money transfers.
Libertarians are financially conservative and socially liberal.
And please give credit where credit is due: Winston Churchill said Democracy is better than the rest.
Look at how a virus adapts and multiplies. They adapt to their surroundings (scientifically considered mutation) but isn't this the same as the Theory of Evolution's Survival of the Fittest?
Also, many a virus are airborne and travel between their hosts (bodies to them, Earth or other planets to us) which would be like space travel for us speaking in relative space/time. Why does the virus feel the need to propogate like this? Is it because it might use up the resources of the host and kill it? How about the fact that we are sucking all the oil out of the ground, polluting the rivers, lakes, oceans, and the air?
I have been running FreeBSD since 4.0 (~1999/2000) and have recently given up on every other OS. I understand what you are saying regarding the BSD community in terms of its relationship with the Linux community. I also agree with your statement that for the most part we look down on Linux, although I do agree Linux is helping in many ways.
I have tried many flavors of Linux and have enjoyed them in some fashion, but there always seemed to be either something missing or something that didn't feel right. My first try at linux was with RH5 ( I have experience with other versions as well), Caldera, and Mandrake. I enjoyed the latter two the most, but RH/Fedora has come a long way. Anyway, once I tried FreeBSD, it felt like I had an epiphany. See most Linux users have never even tried a BSD, while I suspect, ALL BSD users have tried a Linux flavor or two.
I believe the "feeling" I got from using BSD was due to its superior and more mature design and philosophy. It logically just makes sense, where Linux seems ducktaped, fat, and sometimes schizophrenic and dyslexic. So the "looking down" on the Linux community is more like how both our communities dislike ignorance of newbies who don't RTFM. For those of you who have not tried BSD, all you have to do is imagine the documentation and portage of Gentoo and the design/philosophy of Slackware packaged into one OS (Oh yeah forget about the whole XYZ application does not work with kernel 2.X.y but works with kernel 2.X.y.z.abc).
I also noticed a Linux guy on this blog somewhere that mentioned that we will never succeed without a GPL license. People shouldn't be forced to do things. That just means, we as a human race cannot assist our fellow men without being forced to do so. This is free enterprise. Those who choose to profit from BSD code are free to do so, and in some way, shape, or form they return the favor or they lose their innovation and bug fixers. Hence the communism remark earlier by someone else.
I hate to break the news to you, but there are other pieces of code besides OpenSSH that gets merged with other operating systems. If you use other OSS chances are that there is code in there that has been contributed from OpenBSD. I know that pf and ipf both have roots in OpenBSD. Also their code audit has contributed to code imported to kernel and userland flaws that is shared among operating systems.
You guys are as asinine as the government. There are a lot of things that will be affected not just your convienience. Maybe you should try and think about the whole picture. You and your family will be affected because it will affect the economy. About 40% of the income that consumer companies get comes from telemarketing. Don't you think that will have an impact on the economy? What about all the jobs that will be cut with a National Do-Not-Call List? There are over 13,000 jobs all over the world in just 1, count it 1, telemarketing firm that some friends of mine work in.(www.dialamerica.com) And they make pretty good money which allows them to pay their way through college. I wish people would not just think about themselves all the time. I mean you can still sue the company if you ask them to take you off their list and they don't. And last time I checked it was for up to $10,000 or $20,000. It's just that you have to tell them when the call. They are just people trying to make a living and you know what if you are nice to them they will probably take your name off the list, but after listening to 100 people just bitching at them you are most likely not going to get taken off if you are a rude asshole, it gets old and it is a very stressful job. Think about how you would feel. I bet you are the same person that goes into a store yelling at the top of your lungs at the customer service desk to get a refund or something for being over charged instead of acting like an adult and talking in a calm, respectful, and mature manner. Oh well, there is a lot of ignorance in the world and this does not surprise me...just more selfishness.
I am a current IT student and I have been looking for a co-op/perm entry level position for months to no avail. I finally got a job offer and it is lucky something I want to do so I am going to shoot for it, even though I would have gone for it if it wasn't something I wanted to do, just because of the lack of any other jobs coming my way.
It is true that the programs will be less stable under windows, but people have to realize that. Maybe Line should have a disclaimer stating that on the website. But the real benefit to this is to show how much more functionality and power Linux appz posses compared to many Windows appz. For example, many people run the, dare I say it, Aol Instant Messenger, well if they have access to progs like Gaim, that will show them how much more htey can benefit from the better progs of Linux. Just my two cents.
Oh Florida, that's what the poster wrote about, my mistake
take into account that there is not as much to do in those locations and hence to frivolously spend your $ on?

worried about employees considering:

"Approximately 70 percent of computer hacks come from within a company"

(Of course the numbers vary based on the source, but I recall other sources being higher than that)
I think I already knew this

In the latest news, Big Brother has licensed Google technology and is watching you!
As soon as I get the memo entitled: "Hell has frozen over: GPL all source code"
