Just about everyone agrees that Unity is awful. Personally I like Gnome3 a lot, but Ubuntu's implementation suffers badly because they put all their resources into Unity. Mint 12 has a somewhat better implementation, which is what drove me from Ubuntu after using it for 6 years.
Current homicide rates are at the lowest they have ever been in recorded history, and we have every reason to believe that they are lowest rate they have ever been in human existence.
Do you seriously believe that theft of material possessions is something new, that was just invented in the past few generations of people?
Are you referring to his work trying to convince the wealthiest people on the planet to help those less fortunate than themselves by giving away 50% of their wealth within their lifetimes?
Or maybe his proposal that super wealthy bankers and hedgefund managers get taxed at the same rate as plumbers and secretaries?
Retailers feel, and rightly so I would estimate, that the cost of not accepting credit cards is too high.
I agree with you on this point. Retailers do feel that way.
If it really was sucking retailers dry like that, wouldn't they just choose not to accept the card?
That is like the argument that if taxes are too high, then nobody will open a business, with the end result being that 100% of businesses would close. In the real world, businesses accept the federal/state/local tax, and accept the visa tax.
Consider this though- My company (retail sales) pays more money to Visa in card fees than we pay to the government in taxes. The government provides roads, education for employees, police & fire emergency responses, laws and just general positive effects by not having anarchy. Visa provides.... access to the money people want to give us. Funny how Visa costs more.
I wouldn't screw around with it if I were trying to stay quiet, because you'll get a lot of guys that are a lot smarter and a lot more serious than the local PD on your tail in a hurry.
The article says that they've detected over 100 instances of GPS jamming. Yet they have only caught 1 person, a guy who wasn't charged with any crimes, and this is after 3 years of trying.
Hard to say what US capabilities are in detecting jamming, but you can buy a jammer online for $100. They fall into the same category as radar dectectors which people use to avoid police tickets. Surely there must be thousands of jammers in active use. I'm guessing if you only used it for a short time, there is close to 0% chance of being caught.
I think the result is that the people in charge of the security team, and the top management need to be fired. Security is their core business, and lack of communication about something so integral to their business indicates that the top management are such monstrous assholes that they've created a seriously dysfunctional corporate culture where communication doesn't happen.
The security team had a huge failure. Management had an outright catastrophe. Management needs to be replaced entirely, which may well have happened already with Symantec buying them.
And yet I can find multiple Bourguignon Maurice violins for sale for less than $3000? Are all of them fakes, or is the market depressed because of a bad economy? I've played the violin for years and own two, and am quite certain that 99+% of violins bought and sold are for students and are well below $1000. For the 1% of violins that professionals use, $3k might be a bit on the low side, but I think it is unfair to say that it is a low quality instrument for the entire market.
You understand that eBay is an AUCTION site? An item can be appraised to be worth $20k, but that doesn't mean it will sell for that much in an auction. An item, especially art or an antique, is worth exactly whatever somebody else will pay for it.
It also speaks further about his judgment, when you realize that Newt has spent over 1 million dollars "developing" his personal website, and pays $10,000 a week for it. Who is he hiring to do this stuff? Apparently he hired a Home Remodeling contractor to do most of the work.
No wonder it costs so much and they missed even the most basic steps.
They can claim they approach each business differently and try to help, etc etc. But I'd dealt directly with groupon's salespeople a number of times. They ALWAYS want an unlimited deal, and always ask for a higher percentage of the total profits if you want to set a limit. I think they must get a bonus if they bring unlimited deals in.
To be fair, Groupon's sales people try to pressure the businesses into allowing unlimited sales, and will try to negotiate a higher percentage of the revenue going to them if you limit it too much.
They aren't happy about it, but in my experience, they will agree to set limits to the purchase amounts as long as you are going to be selling $20k of product.
I'm guessing if you found this serious flaw with about 10 seconds of thought, the researchers who devoted months of study to this problem probably considered it as well. They did after all differentiate between the male and female counts, and didn't lump them together as 76 vs 78 kids.
Actually I'd say that thanks to iDevices, a huge percentage of the population have heard of rooting a device, and a whole lot of people consider it normal or even necessary to use the device. In the past couple of years I've seen plenty of less tech-savvy people get a new android phone, and then immediately start asking how to root it, despite not having a single benefit to them that they can list. They just know that iPhones need it to unlock full functionality, so androids must too.
How Amazons walled garden will stack up against Apples remains to be seen.
Fair enough. I can see your point that with football, kids have a very direct, visible, and immediate gain in social status, etc. Where as with tests, the drive to get an A+ isn't as rewarding a scenario. For most kids, the benefits are way too far ahead in life unless they are being punished for failure. But overall I think most of the adderall and other advanced chems get taken by college students who have reached an age to have a much more long term risk/reward approach.
A little off topic, but there's no such thing as a filler class. Only people who don't realize the full value of a well rounded education seem to consider breadth courses as a waste of time.
That's your own opinion.
I would say that is also the "opinion" of every state academic board in the US, along with almost every education board in every country in the world. I also think it ceases to be an opinion when you can use a multitude of data points to prove that a broad education makes for a better life. YMMV
Are you saying students should care more about football?
As far as I can tell, the concept of cramming and pulling an all nighter with the aid of coffee has been around at least 300 years. I would wager 99% of students have used caffeine at some point to sharpen their senses while studying. Is it really that shocking and appalling that some students use more advanced chemistry for the same goals?
some people cheat on the history courses or off breadth courses so they have the time to party? Why wastes time of that 10+ page history paper when you have a big party to go to.
It doesn't really matter how you justify it. Some people do the work assigned to them, and others feel it is beneath them because they have something more important to do. A university won't let a student take only science classes and graduate, nor will they allow only history classes to get a degree. Virtually every academic in the world agrees that an educated person should be well rounded in a variety of subjects, and not just their "main courses". This is why the class requirements exist.
And how do you feel knowing that most billionaires pay a lower percentage of taxes than you? Once your daughter stops going to school, she will be paying a higher percentage of her wealth to pave roads and send kids to school, than every billionaire in the country.
Is THAT fair? Should 24 year old just-out-of-college kids be spending more of their overall wealth taking care of society and their fellow man, than the mega-wealthy at the very top?
2) Withdraw all money from your 401K, 403B, IRA, etc and manage it yourself.
You are basically saying, that out of thousands of different companies that manage these types of accounts, ALL of them are corrupt or incompetent, and exist for the sole purpose of taking your money and giving you a lousy deal in return. So the only solution is that people need to learn how to do this themselves? Should I also farm all of my own food, and refine my own gasoline?
It was Eisenhower's vision that created the highway system, based on his experience of managing army supply lines. Various groups had been lobbying for a highway system for more than 30 years, but those requests were repeatedly ignored as too expensive, and a problem for the states to deal with, until he got into office and finally made it happen. He almost singlehandedly championed the largest infrastructure project in the nations history, which directly contributed in a very big way to economic growth for 50+ years.
Wasn't one of our finest?? If you live in America, then your quality of life is absolutely better because of him.
In that same chart it shows that the top 10% pay roughly 70% of the taxes. Seems like a lot... until you consider they control 80% of the wealth. The bottom 90% of people control 20% of wealth, and pay 30% of taxes.

Who are you to call another persons life meaningless because they like football, or buy stuff online, or have martial problems?

Well, I know the answer to the reverse. The kindle fire will run the nook app, it just isn't part of their default app library.
I'm guessing if you found this serious flaw with about 10 seconds of thought, the researchers who devoted months of study to this problem probably considered it as well. They did after all differentiate between the male and female counts, and didn't lump them together as 76 vs 78 kids.

Thanks! Its always nice to find out when the version of history I've been told was embellished.
It was Eisenhower's vision that created the highway system, based on his experience of managing army supply lines. You seem to be implying that Kindle and iPad owners are in the poorest segment of society. This is simply not true.

This is why people in the bottom 90% complain.
