Besides, the government has been using private networks for quite a while, this is just yet another private network. I don't think that I'd even want to run a business without SOME privacy.

3) Cheaper versions of these drives use volatile memory that fails in a power outtage. Any extended outage past the life of your UPSs and you're screwed.

An example of this would be the difference between a patent on the spark plug and the stun gun. The same device throws electricity into your engine or into your assailant, but the application is different.
In college I did group projects where we were required to document our individual contributions. Usually at the head of all of our code was a commented out section marking the dates that the code was modified, who modified it, and what they did.
I like that solution to the problem, but it still bothers me that physicists in the future would be unable to realize that the original solution (as proposed by the living people in the matrix) is at best suboptimal (lossy energy storage) at worst impossible (energy generation).
But you have to feed humans, they have to eat, even if they feed humans other dissolved dead humans the dissolved ones cannot be enough to power MORE bodies than themselves considering that humans grow and die naturally in this system. Surely you know that in any system you never GAIN energy... it dissipates. At best you could keep the same amount of energy indefinately. That system would require EVERYTHING in it to be a superconductor and to not do any work.
It's always bothered me, in "The Matrix," the way that they harvest humans as batteries. If the AI was all that intelligent, they would have known that the energy investment in farming humans would be greater than the output. YES, the human body does output X joules of energy, but in order to output that energy in a harvestable form an even greater amount of energy has to be invested. Without the sun's energy all of life on earth would die, farming like that would not be practical.
Sometimes "well rounded" means "well funded," as in continued funding to a department that few take interest in. Rather than serving the student, it serves to keep a program open.
It's one thing to require everyone to take a class in geography/math/english, another to require everyone to take a class in *department unknown.*
Much like in the movie PCU, where the dean says she's debating getting rid of the Math department to support a department that would study the culture of probably 30 people worldwide (though the quote escapes me).
Supposing that the ads were hosted offsite and you couldn't efficiently check to make sure the ad was downloaded (which you can, but it might slow down page loading), you could attach the ad to a little java executable that calls home before loading the page.

Legislation shows that people have a hard time differentiating what's a serious offence and what isn't.
For one thing, taking this out on someone hard, would only lead to approval of laws like the proposed law to make a bunch of kids in HS "terrorists" for winnuking each other.
We KNOW that these aren't hard to create, kids with no formal training can crank them out like they're nothing. To a 14 year old kid who needs to show off to his friends (and almost all of them do), it's IRRESISTABLE. I can't picture throwing someone behind bars for more than a couple years just because they're virus is effective.
If anything, they need counseling to know WHY what they are doing is bad, that it affects other people and that it isn't just a game, but certainly making an example of these people sets a precident for the treatment of all of us.
In other words, turn some silly kid with a script for making viruses into a real criminal, when people are getting in trouble for stupid stuff like scanning someone's ports, and soon you'll see anybody without corporate backing thrown in jail for having a debugger.
Dude, I love NASA and the space program, but don't you think that low latency high bandwidth point to point communications to mars would kick ass majorly? Toss up a router on mars and go to town? Come on, this would kill a big obstacle!
The best show a real interest, get a few degrees, and spend the rest of their lives theorizing or writing standards.
Script kiddies go over the L0pht, get a "hacker tool" if there is such a thing, and deface websites. We're not talking about special relativity here. At best they learn to use a debugger and find overflows. I've met FEW "hackers" who actually possess any potential for becoming mroe than that.

Did they copyright a sequence including all of the numbers, or did they submit each number separately?
If they copyrighted all of them together, then you could use any individual number under fair use, since it is not the whole work.
