I don't know how big the beta is, only Google does. But I did get my first domain's response a few days ago. Then I applied again for a second domain, and that got into the beta under 48 hours later. Apply soon, and you can likely get in. I didn't use any special stuff on the application, just personal use, 5 or so email addresses needed.
Going back to the days of the original Everquest, one of the only quests I really got into was the Burning Rapier quest. Ah, them were the days well before needing massive guild raids and such. Memories...
The problem with tradeskills in WoW is that you are limited to two skills to specialize in. If you sign up for a tradeskill when you're low level, it goes up as you level and all is harmonious. But should you change your mind mid-way through the game, you MUST go after lowbie crap to get your skill up. There are minimum skill level requirements to skin that level 30 beast, and as a "new" skinner, you are out of luck.
A better generator would be the Faraday Flashlights that advertise on TV. Two of those, going as fast as one can should be plenty of power. Besides, I'm sure most Slashdotters are far more accustomed to that motion rather than circular hand-cranking, to reduce the risk of repetitive-stress injuries.
I have a fairly easy solution. Log on to worldofwarcraft.com, select Account Management, then Change Subscription, and click the radio button "Cancel recurring subscription plan." They even let you fill out a box with your reason for leaving, presumable someone there reads them.
Although, I'm not so heavily into it as most of you, not even 60 after six months. Still, you could do it to get the point across and re-up again later.
WTF you need a link for? Nobody here is interested in any "article" when we can gather what we should think right from the official Slashdot descriptions!
Tivo works quite simply over a broadband connection as well. Even my antique first-generation Tivo allows it with a minor code in the telephone number and a linux box to accept the ppp connection. I haven't had a land phone line in about 2.5 years and this 1998 Tivo1 still works as flawlessly as the day I bought it ($400 back then, yikes!).
Yeah, but nucular plants are too scarey! Everyone around them will be born with three boobs and stuff!!
Hmm, maybe not so bad...
Sure it might help electrical output and such, but there is more money to be made in complaining about the problem than there would be if these problems got solved.
Actually, non-mpeg capture cards don't use all that much cpu time. Granted, I wouldn't suggest dropping two or three in one box and record several things at once.
I have had an old-old circa 1997 hauppage bt848 lying around and decided to give Myth (via Knoppmyth) a try to upgrade my first series Tivo. That was at least six months ago, and it's still working perfectly. I can play other recordings smoothely while it is recording and transcoding the raw stream into MPEG.

I looked all over for hacks to Google to do bookmarks, like the ones that can post files in GMail and treat it like a hard drive in Windows, but nothing came up. The personalized Google page allows you to type a few bookmarks, but it's not a complete solution when you have more than ten. You have to prioritize there. With Konqueror being my primary browser, things like Google Toolbar just won't get used that much for me. One of Konq's top features is that Flash doesn't work. That more than makes up for the lack of frills.:)
Simpy is getting me by for now pretty well. I've uploaded bookmark sets from four computers, one or two browsers each (IE, Firefox, Konqueror). I just go through 5 or 10 at a session, and eventually they'll all be set.
Thirst is a fairly interesting thing to study. Working with kidney failure patients, it's a difficult thing for them to manage. Urges like sex, hunger, etc can be dismissed in one's mind with a little work. But thirst is impossible to get away from. The only way to get rid of the urge is to drink. For renal patients, it's doubly hard as drinking then leads to a series of other problems for them.
Combine that with being stuck with two big 15g needle three times a week, and you see a lot of pain. It's interesting that the two can be linked. I have seen how one day a person may only slightly flinch, another day and they are writhing much worse.

http://simpy.com/ does it pretty well. You can mark links public/private, create groups of users (ie your household). One thing I don't like is the firefox sidebar. But a simple bookmark to simpy.com and I can then manually search, enter a new bookmark, etc.
At least with computer hardware, you can many times find it for sale from an internet shop for cheaper or similar amounts than the rebated price. The difference is in timing, have the item in a week for $200, or have it now for $250 and wait 6-12 weeks/months for the $50 rebate.
I've recently spent time looking for hard drive upgrades on ebay. I notice all over there are brand new HDs out there, with the UPC clipped off the box. I figured they were using these store rebates to buy cheap and sell for a profit.
So I went to the Sunday paper a few times, looked at drives with their rebates, and I fail to see where the profit is. I bought one drive off ebay, 160gb or so, for $55 shipping included. In this past Sunday ad for Best Buy, they have a 120g for $59.99 after rebates. There is also a 250gb drive for $89.99 after rebates. Scanning ebay, there are a some for $75ish with shipping expiring in under 30 minutes.
Am I missing something, or are there once in a great while a rebate deal so good you can actually make a little something doing this?
Believe it or not, some of the things chain stores like Best Buy sell are crap. There is nothing compared to reviews written by people actually using the item to gauge if it will fit your needs. Magazines base their "scores" for hardware and software on a simple formula: 9+fraction of advertising the company gives them.
On this topic, a certain wireless nic may technically work under Windows, but when you see multiple posts on the company's own forums of people having trouble keeping their connection alive for more than a minute, you know it's time to move along.
Research pays off in the long run, irrespective of the OS.
When I first tried messing with these drivers, I found they locked up the PC completely about 3 seconds after loading the module. After much trial and error, I found that I needed to recompile the distro kernel without SMP support. Then they worked very smoothely.
I've used this for some simple torentting. I don't want to have to keep X or an entire Windows box up 24x7. Being able to send requests from any computer in my network very easily is another requirement. TorrentFlux has met this for me, simple, web-based frontend to its python scripts.
I don't have enough hd space (and I'm too lazy to pop an extra hd in) on my 8 year old linux server for too many concurrent downloads to test that part of it, but it is simple enough to use for most things I do.
Anyone have any other really simplified, Linux server sort of apps for torrentting?
No, these are the thirty GREATEST games of all year!! I mean, that's gotta mean they are damn good. I know I plan on spending $49.99 * 30 this Christmas!
Go ahead and blame the industry. These web sites, magazines, etc are all the same. Their "reviews" are just buzz-words, hype, and an advertisement for whatever new gadget.
Sure, some of those sub-$200 deliver more frames per second per dollar spent, but they're generally just not fast enough to run those really graphics-intensive games at decent resolutions, unless you're willing to go into your game options menu and turn the details down to "medium."
OMG, what loser would go through all that trouble (Options->Video Options->Medium) in a game! It makes more sense (to them) to just pony up $300-500 for a video card and continue getting ad revenue.
GeForce 6600GT and Radeon X700 Pro cards are good for the $150 range, but while their price/performance ratio is high, they don't offer the kind of raw speed necessary to let you really enjoy games like F.E.A.R. and Quake 4 the way they're meant to be played.
Again, spending under $150 equals LOSER. To me, it says these games have too poor a storyline, action, etc that the only enjoyment the reviewer sees is looking at all the pretty sparkles around the screen.
So, go ahead and blame the industry. They are the ones throwing out this idea that anything in your PC is crap after three months and needs upgraded immediately!!.
Disclaimer: I don't even have a $150 graphics card, but a ATI 9600 I picked up off ebay for around $60 over a year ago. Somehow, I still get enjoyment from playing video games. Wish I knew how I did it...
Iraq ceased being a sovereign nation in 1991. As the troops were closing in on Baghdad, Saddam aggreed to some stipulations and was allowed to remain in power. He was to abide by the rules established, then he could have his country back.
It just so happens when the UN officials were supposed to be monitoring these stipulations, they also got into the oil bribing business. So for twelve years, they didn't particularly care whether Saddam actually dismantled any weapons, provided proof he had, etc.
Iraq was attacked not solely because Bush is macho, a vendetta for his father or whatever, but because there was this agreement from back then. How many times must Saddam be told "Do it or else" over twelve years?
Despite all the political hoopla around the world, there have been no official sanctions brought on the US, like there would if we attacked another country for truely no reason. Attacking Iran or North Korea right now would be significantly harder to justify...

KnoppMyth is perfect for this. Just pick hardware that is known compatible if you aren't familiar with compiling kernels and such to get them working.

Do you know how many literalites are offended at satire? Is it any wonder most of the world wants to blow the USA off the planet?

Luckily, someone has even figured out a way to store a printf into a string! Why reinvent the wheel? Reuse the code!

The point is, why is this program so special to get a headline? Freshmeat is full of millions of programs that have new versions every hour.
