I think we have already been transformed by technology at a rapid pace. When you look at everyday technology like communications, portable devices, and data storage, in some ways we have already surpassed the science fiction I enjoyed as a kid. Things like the cell phone, tablet, and the micro sd card only existed in science fiction when I was a kid.
If you grew up in the 70s or earlier I'm sure you can come up with a big list of everyday items.
That sounds more likely, it would have to be a controlled place or at least mapped.
I was off the google map and gps half the weekend. I was out fishing and the roads to where I was at were very nice paved state roads, there was a marina, boat docks, a resort, all built in the 70s, the place was packed.
I can't imagine a fully driverless car when popular summer spots aren't in gps, when it finds you a restaurant but it's out of business or moved, when it tell me to turn into construction and then tells me to turn around multiple times because it hasn't recalculated the route yet.
qualifications?!? When it comes to politics even I could run for president I'm over 35, born and live in the US, have never been impeached, and have never been part of a rebellion.
I was under the impression that this was part of the way they intended to compete with android. free os for small arm devices with bing as the default search and an app store.
My brother plays in a popular local band so think about this. When you go to see a local band they usually have t-shirts you pay $15.00 for and that t-shirt costs them around $3.50 {depending on the number of colors} they get about $11.50 and of course they make $7.50 on a $10.00 CD. A cover split between the bar and a couple bands then between the 5 band members barely covers gas. Their music is on various on-line services {spotify, itunes, amazon, etc...} which they treat more as advertisement than a money maker so if you want to support a local or indie band go to a show and buy a t-shirt.
I've played in garage and bar bands and my brother plays in a bar band that's making progress they have a sponsor but they are wanting to get signed to one these indie labels because some of the problems they are facing is how to distribute/promote their music, manage their online presence, and contract gigs
{they have actually played gigs that they didn't know how much they were getting paid, what time sound check was, or if they were going to be able to sell their merchandise, because some of the members have no idea how to do the business side}
These are indie bands and oddly if you ask the artists many of them would probably love for a few John Q Fanboys to make a tribute video that's posted and reposted all over youtube. They probably also have their own youtube channel and make advertising dollars on the channel.
I'm not so sure this is as good an idea as it sounds. In a controlled situation sure but a wild fire in a heavily wooded area you may end up just spreading it around.
All of that is true. Not everyone spends their day tied to a computer.
And there are enough people willing to accept whatever FM radio gives them that the record industry retains its political clout.
Unsigned bands don't get very many opportunities to get airplay unless they have a relationship with a college radio station that will play them even then it may only be in the middle of the night. My brother lucked out and got a gig opening for a signed band so they have had a little recent air play on local radio and were interviewed in a statewide magazine.
Music industry is completely vampiric , with NO known benefits for anyone except themselves. If they died today, the music you hear would only get better, in spite of the scare stories to the contrary.
I listen to a lot of unsigned bands and my brother plays in an unsigned band that paid for studio time to record an EP that's in various online and streaming media services {amazon, itunes, google play, spotify}. When they play a gig they always have t-shirts, stickers, or any other merchandise they can get their hands on because that is how they make their money. {not much money enough to cover cost and record that next EP eventually}
The internet and PC has really broken down the barrier to entry that once existed. Take a little time to check a few music sites like reverbnation or unsigned and you'll find that the bands range from crap to I can't believe they are not already signed. You may just find your next favorite band is a bar band that paid for pro studio time.
I will give you that.... and it probably does very little against the flu which according to the cdc also out ranks homicides in the leading causes of death. Unless of course someone decides to start shooting people that sneeze in which case we could have a problem.
That's to try to replicate a realistic situation. Other humans are the most dangerous thing you will ever encounter.
You may want to re-think that... with heart disease being the leading cause of death... about 10x that of homicides... pick a food high in cholesterol.
I'm not a gun owner either and not a member of any gun related organizations.
I agree the technology sounds useful but mandating a technology that is unproven and not likely to have an impact... I have no idea what the statistics for are for a person being shot by an assailant with their own gun are but I'm sure it's really low. Gun locks are not intended to keep a burglar from using your own gun against you, they are intended to keep accidental discharges from happening and unauthorized users like kids from playing with them.
As for theft, gunlocks or any other system can be circumvented.
Hey now! I live in Kansas... just because we have a few very vocal nut jobs doesn't make us all nut jobs.
I've concluded that they make the news so much because unless there is a tornado not much else really happens here. I know it sounds boring but sometimes that's a good thing.
Unless NSA stands for National Sales and Advertising I'm not sure they are the ones I would worry about. Google does an awful lot of targeted advertising.
When someone has a good experience with a company they might recommend the business to friend if they ask, but if they have a bad experience and they are mad they will tell everyone post it on facebook and twitter anyone else that has ever had a bad experience with that company will comment on it and then it will get shared with there friends and their friends. Three years later it'll still be there at the top of a google search for company name.
This is what companies want to avoid but something like this is not going to fix the relationship they have with that customer. If they want a customer to remove a bad post then they need to fix the relationship with the customer they may not remove it but they might convince them to update it with a satisfying ending.
I'm not so sure publicly traded has anything to do with it. I'm still not seeing the connection to anti- trust suit it's not like there is a shortage of user content streaming sites. From what I could tell twitch is actually focused on games and game reviews which is more of a nitch site than general user content streaming site. I've never even heard of twitch before now but I have heard of daily-motion, vimeo, metacafe, and veoh. I know there are more sites.
My old microwave used to burn the popcorn, then it died.. I purchased a new one that does it right given you can figure out how many ounces are in the bag.
I don't have any problem with hot pockets mostly because if I'm going to have a hotpocket at lunch I pull it out of the freezer in the morning before work and stick it in the refrigerator. It's mostly thawed out by lunch when I pop it in the microwave.
I grew up next to a military base and can confirm that and as a freshman in high school I could not get a date with any girls at my school because they were all dating soldiers. Instead their 19-22yr old wives were all very lonely... I once took a 22yr old soldier's wife to a school dance because, I knew he would be there with his 16yr old date.
I wasn't apposing SystemD. I was attempting to refute the idea that linux boxes never get rebooted with an anecdote about getting emergency calls from panicking helpdesk people while in the shower and telling them just to reboot it.
The last time I got one of those panicked calls I was laying on the floorboard of my car in the parking lot of an autozone trying to get the blinker relay out.
"The Cloud" is a marketing term used to describe software, platforms, and infrastructure as a remote service.
How do you get agnostic virtualization?

Speech to text works great with my rather bland general American accent.

Your drone strike will start after this brief advertisement.
Right but wildfires are not always the most predictable thing.

When my wife does something silly, sometimes I tell her "You are a Guinness." Yes just like the beer... She doesn't like it. I think it's funny.
One time she asked me where the broom was I asked her if she was going to the store. She liked that and has used it on co-workers.

I have had to set reboots on more windows boxes than linux but considering linux makes up about 10-15% of our servers that should be the case.
Some of those I can boil down to hardware and application implementations not being scaled properly because of cost.
