    Each processor runs it's own kernel. I think you better think of a real micro kernel. And the features called where the instuctions are close to the data sounds more like some kind of message passing kernel like the mach-kernel.

    It would not be a problem to run a GNU/Linux kernel on top of that.

    But forget the 1 memory - x processors pardigma. That is not needed for a system like this and would only creat a bottleneck.

    f you're looking at this sort of solution, you don't want to rely on trust, either.

    You don't trust your engineer with his laptop, but you do trust him to tinker with your machines? And you do trust some hardware lock. Check yourself.

    Isn't there some user mode linux port that runs under windows? In those webbased interfaces kind of software this might be a solutions.

    Anyone tried it? Or is user mode linix just a development toy?

    Isn't the point of a laptop that are designed to be mobile? And if you want to restrict the mobility wouldn't it be easier to attach a network cable & lock to it instead of this fancy encryption?

    Or if it is to be used in 2 places use 2 desktops? what am i missing?

    Ok, this is no solution for the boss who must have the most fancy laptop there is to see the best screensaver. (dilbert)

    I wonder how many dollars have been spent, or how many families have actually bought new computers (yes, it happens), once their PC slows down and/or crashes, hangs, or has other problems, to the point that it's virtually unusable.


    Previous years, not enough ram and a full task bar and a broken registry was blaimed.

    After that the finger aimed ad viri.

    Next year (now actually) spyware is blaimed for this.

    Don't underestime this fashion of things to blaim. sellers of anti-xxx software have done well last few years

    (qemm/ nortonav / next big antispyware seller)

    It reads ok if you are not a native english. Try to bablefish it a few times and it might come out ok.

    And the "cell" is an architecture. so they build the common blocks together and each compagny slaps togeter some other blocks to make it's own appliance.

    scanners do not prevent the problems. They do only detect them. Note that some of them also detect cookies. cookies do not affect your system stabilyty but they can be used to track your surfing behaviour.

    So the question is then: what spyware do you have and how did you get it.

    Note also the diclaimer in the linked article. Some spyware is not detected because of the policy. spyware can be dived in category's spyware that is visibly installed (you know what you get when you install kazaa). To the search related (alexa what's related installed in internet explorer) to the hidden installs of activex applications/dailers.

    I am mainly interested in spyware that (can) disrupt system stabily (hidden proxy's, resource hogging, improperly uninstall when related free application is deinstalled)

    since they did not(barely) update the index for 7 months i would barely call it cache. A lot of index that are in de images "cache" are no logner available.

    look at my cache that i keep on CD-R. It will degrade in 2 years. (accoridng to real-life test's)

    An other thing they claimed that looking of "perfect 10" (a trade mark of the "porn" company) came up with adwords that lead to other sites. (id does this not if tou search now)

    it is, and it has alsways had capacity problems. They have some incredibel servers at valve, they have more incredible content that puts way too much load on the servers. The even try to offload some of the bandthwith with bitorrent like technology, but it keeps behaving as cutting(breaking) edge stuff.

    If the boxed version does not work for you return it. That will teach them.

    You might not be too far off.

    1. Well, America wants all passports to have a rfid module to verify authenticity. That is one starting point.

    2. next one you will see is that you are required to show a valid id. (maybe that rule is already in place somewhere, like airports).

    i have a hardware firewall (A modem with buildin NAT to be more accurate) AND i do use a software firewall (kerio 2.15). XP sp2 failed to detect them both (even as the modem has a windows logo on it). This gives me a clue that you are supposed to run the windows firewall according to windows.

    I do not believe everything MS tells me to.

    I still haven't figured out how to my firewalling for ipv6 (kerio does nt support it, and windows firewall is all or nothing)

    I have seen 1 worse example: Norton system works has an option "Anti worm protection". When searching what this things does it says it blocks worms at the entry point.

    It fails to mention that this is a (simple) firewall that will block other incoming traffic as an unexpected bonus. Even for an experienced user this is hard to trouble shoot since you think that THERE IS NO FIREWALL.

    at least SP2 screams firewall all over the place.
