    You know, there was some security firm that told there were no good UPS , and if someone turned this switch **CLICK **

    Their main IT was down for 2 days...and that firm was fired and got hold responsible for the damages (I don't know if it stuck). Damaging someones systemes is never a good test, and will results in costs, that someone got to pay.

    Analogy police alert.... if someone cuts your fences to prove the secury after that is not tight, they will have to pay for the repair of the fence. Not for the higher wall, but they will have to cough up the effort it takes to repair the old one.

    No, If the original links would have been taken down, then they would not need to ask google to bring the index-link down. There are sites that are in foreign countries that are "slow" in processing takedown notices, so the link might still be effective.

    Now why would google have outsourced the hosting of take-down notices to chilling-effects.org. ......

    This is all about NASA making a scientifically correct movie how to fly some astronouts to mars and back. They will use real life models of rockets and gear. And it will cost the budget of NASA a lot. THey might even make it *** an international co-production ***. Minimal CGI, and not those fake moon-landing minitures and errors like a waving flag.

    It will be premiered on the news, and not in some MPAA controlled screen.

    Suppose you just ran through a red light. The police officer did not see the traffic light, but he guesses that you might have run a light. If he stop you, sees the recording dashcam, he might take the SD card out of it to proof you just did it.

    But basically this is no point: if it is your word against the word of a police officer, you loose anyway. That is why in russia there are so many dashcams, the people do not trust a lot of police (or some government drivers that act like police).

    I would think that data replication is more important. e.g. let the dashcam automatically sync events to your smartphone, so simply capturing and "accidentally" wiping the dashcam will not remove the evidence.

    And the smartphone already has the option to protect directories if that is important to you. (IT SHOULD)

    Again, I am not sure if you are sarcastic or not. You don't drive a huge truck to be fuel efficient. And i you do want more miles for the same amount of fuel diesel would have been the way to go.

    If you are serious, you sound like a smoker that is telling to smoke cigars, because filters do not filter fine dust. Or in other words, you are not willing to admid you like the sound and status of the huge truck. Ify ou wanted fuel efficient you would have driven a small car or a prius.

    If you could have a smaller engine, with more power. Then why would you love the bigger engine? why "love" them. Wouldn't they love big diesel engines with more torque even more. Or would diesel be just too expensive.

    +1 to the open source part. The code may be opn source, but the builds need trusted clients you cannot put in the public domain.

    That is my main objection. Only trusted (big) players will get the decryption keys. And DRM has the feature is starts to spread. It starts with dycrypting the stream, then the renderer needs to be trusted. Next the HDCP link to the screeen, and if there was an option to encrypt the screen to eyes link, someone will build it.

    Open sourcing, and freely building, any of the components in the path will result in a leak of the content. the end result is that the entire environment gets getting more closed.

    eeeh, Almost everything is internet connected. They tell you that the nuclear power central is not connected, but if you really audit it you will find there is some kind of double vpn to connect it.

    The international airports have their own internal networks, but in some ways they are always connected to the internet. There are some vpn and firewalls between your home desktop and the plane, but in the end it is all connected.

    The problem is that the price of aircraft riese soo much. In the end there will be one country, one plane. Anything more will be too expensive.

    the arms race worked in the past when the US was THE economic super power. That might not be the way to go, there are more economic superpowers rising these days. Russia has oil, Asia has a rising economy, us has depts.

    But before robotic figher aircraft are a reality, there needs to be a in between platform for the next 15 years. you will have to develop that or loose the arms race.

    Ik i Choose to play a video. manually, in focus.i MIGHT want to hear the sound. In that case i do not want to check
    -video sound setting
    -Tab sound setting.
    -browser sound setting.
    -global sound setting.

    (it gets worse when playing in a remote virtual machine )

    I never ever want to hear sounds in ads. That is the second most important reason that i invest too much time in ad-blocking.

    You can code a great game in just a few hunderd KB... just look at the PC's 20 years ago. Detailed textures are not always required.

    99% of a invention is transpiration... you have to spend that on the ugly business things. The workarround for that is to work for a big company that will handle the non-creative part of it, but then the big money is also going that way.

    There is a simple answer: Everything 3d you do now 3d on the desktop:
    -Gaming. That is gaming without download a game client, natively in the browser.
    -Fancy moving windows/text boxes arround. Like unity. Not because is is required to do your work, but it looks nice.
    -Everything that now needs some kind of download.

    Webgl seems the ony option. Maybe a simpler version might be required that can be implemented safely. But even then it is far away from using at every platform.

    They are always saying that ONLY dna proof is not enough to convict someone. This very example proves that dna is not as unique as they are always saying. It is also possible to fake DNA evidence.

    However in this case there was video evidence and witness evicence as well, but it has the same problem... too identical.

    Once karma was a number. it had a value between 0 and 50. Every time you got a upvote that number increased. (but not for funny votes). once you had a value above 20 (not sure exact what value) you can post repsonses at +2 instead of +1.

    However the karma number was gamed by some people, using it a as a personal score. To fight karma gaming the number was no longer showed, instead it show a textual description of the same fiel.

    the upper bound was 50.

    BYOD are be definition devices that are not completely adhering to the company policy. That is why you put them on a separate network (VLAN) that has internet access, but limited intranet access.

    You are correct, this has very little to do with fragmentation.

    The problem is that phone vendors are suddenly becoming software vendors. But they are far to slow to push out updates into the market.

    Most phones are not updated. That include iPhones.
