    Given that the gizmo in question is a handheld laser cutter, making a hole in the desk was intended to be impressive :) I was intending to make a hole in a piece of acrylic, but left it on a few seconds too long.

    This frustrates me.

    I did an indiegogo in 2014, hit around 300%, bought a lathe and a drill press and a 3d printer, and delivered all the units within 90 days.

    After that I decided to start selling my invention through regular channels... and discovered that crowdfunding is radioactive to investors unless you hit more than 1000%. Most people told me that what I had already invented, built, and sold was unfeasible.

    One person even told me that it was unfeasible AFTER it had made a hole in his desk.

    Why do grifters ruin it for the rest of us?

  8. I did an indiegogo campaign about a solid state laser cutter (not engraver, cutter). It hit 312%. I delivered in about 90 days. About 2% of my customers were unhappy and wanted a refund. All in all, not too bad I think.

  9. I wonder if they'd be interested in the design. It doesn't look nearly as nice as theirs, and is larger, but it does the job that theirs is supposed to do. How do I get in touch with them?

    my 3d printer's nozzle is brass. So are some motor/generator brushes. It has its uses.

  13. For the last ten years or so overclocking hasn't really been much use, it's more of a showing off thing. So why buy it? If you buy it what's the point? DIY and then you get bragging rights, buy it and you get... a pretty hefty bill for little gain.

  17. Never had a credit card in my life and am fairly proud of that fact. I bank with a credit union and am occasionally active in the shareholder meetings. If more people did this, banks would have no political power. Be the change you want to see in the world. (It does mean that I only have owned a bed since about 2 months ago, slept on an air mattress until I had saved enough that buying a bed and frame wasn't a big deal, but like I said, live below your means and none will own you).

  19. I'll feed the troll for this once... I'm in my mid 30s and have been debt-free for 3 years. No mortgage, no student loans, no car payments, nada. This took some hard work, a lot of luck, and a willingness to live below my means for a long time. It means that NOBODY CONTROLS ME. Fun, no?

    I don't know, the last time someone tried to steal one of my inventions I pinned him to a wall and punched a hole in the wall next to his head. Pretty effective. I guess that it doesn't scale up though.
