Actually it doesn't say that any schools are switching to linux at all. Just that schools are being offered free copies of StarOffice from Sun. End of story.

DSL Rising

I've had 2.5Mbit DSL now for about 2 years. No problems. Before that I had cable, with way more problems such as fluctuating speed.
It seems like there is one common denominator when people have problems with DSL: PPPoE.
Here in Sweden (and I know this goes for at least Denmark also, as I work for denmarks 2nd largest ISP) none of the major DSL operators make use of DSL and there are way less problems than what I've experienced with PPPoE in the US (Verizon, NYC).
And to be honest, I don't really see the point of a sign-on procedure for a static always-on connection. I wonder why ISPs choose to use PPPoE? It just doesn't seem worth the trouble.
FYI: Bin Laden does all his speeches in an ancient form of arabic dating back to the 6th century. even if you are fluent in modern arabic you would not understand a word.
a few imams and other scholars who have studied old version of the koran and ancient arabic cultures are able to translate this.
he probably does this to give his appearances a more prophetic "feel".
I don't like how this cell phone that doesn't really have any new features at all (phones with mp3 players have been available for almost 2 years).
get this much exposure, while the technically more interesting solutions (GPRS, built in bluetooth, POP3 and SMTP client etc.) like the Ericsson T39 and the upcoming T68 doesn't.
the only thing new about this thing is the keyboard and the poor stand by time.
Marooned in Realtime is an amazing short story.
but i can also highly recommend reading A Deepness in the Sky and A Fire in the Deep.
they both depicture a very dynamic human future and bring out some interesting theories very vividly.
I am not moralizing.
I don't consider it my business what other people do to themselves.
I am just stating that i believe alot (esp. young people) don't consider the consequences.
I try hard to avoid preaching when it comes to these issues as i consider them to be highly personal.
It's just not for me.
Do you actually believe that anyone would take up smoking if they knew what the consequences would be?
please..
I'm sure the majority of people have heard about the consequences a bazillion of times, but not everybody realizes what they mean.
I work at a large ISP here in scandinavia taking care of abuse and support email/phonecalls.
These new personal-firewall programs are really really starting to piss me off, about 95% of all abuse calls turn out to be either NetBIOS connection attempts from their friends or open proxy scans from IRC servers.
The Athlon uses the same EV6 protocol as DEC's Alphas (and also DEC's SMP protocol, whatever that might be called) and does not depend on Intels protocols at all.
This has happened to me a number of times, only when dealing with US companies though and only when having items shipped overseas. Everytime they demand a faxed copy/picture of my card+ID i cancel the order though, it's just plain silly.
Except from the fact that this is bringing internet access to what might be considered as a "third world country" on a larger scale (which is great), I can't really see what's so special about this. Because AFAIK one of the major Swedish networks, SUNET, has been built around the Swedish Railroads Signal System/network since the beginning, years and years ago.
Gasp. Hahahahahahaha!
Choke. Hahahaha, NO!

Make that 30%..
Nope. No sticker either.
Could be because I for some reason got the Canadian version. It just had a sticker with the title in french on it.
Damn french people.
I did not get in my 4 disc r1 extended edition box.
Neither did my friends who got the full bookend thingy.
I've never heard of this before.
They've also removed the GBA (etc) flashcarts.
I really can't see how those could've been considered illegal. It's completely empty media (flashram).
slashdotted before the first comment..
No, the track is called Lux Aeterna, composed by Clint Mansell who wrote the entire score for RFAD.
i believe the percentage of people with cable/dsl/similar connectivity is a great deal higher in sweden than in the US. sorry.

until then i'm pretty glad we got GPRS and "2.5G" here (sweden). a 115kbps link is a-ok with me.

Please go away evil software.

thanks! :) maybe i'll give 4.0 a shot then, until i can get a 4.1 ISO.
I know FreeBSD isn't aimed at the desktop/workstation marked at all, but I really think it's time for Soundblaster Live! support..
you're on crack.
